aragond
Someone on another thread did the math, and came up with something around 85 sq miles. It's rumoured that it is 2.5x bigger than RDR. Ahhhh, please bear in mind when I made that estimate it was based on things OTHER people had said, or may have just speculated. It was heavily based on an unsubstantiated claim on a French website that one of the Housers said V would be 2.5 x RDR, and then that RDR was 2.5 x GTA-SA. Throw in this pic and you have 85 sq.mi Problem is (and I'm a PC, so I can't RDR) we don't apparently KNOW how big RDR's environment is, and we don't know whether this Frenchman was full of the proverbial French manure. However, f'sure, 85 sq.mi would be enormous and certainly big enough to host three or even more cities of Liberty City size (roughly 6.5 sq.mi incl. waters) and still have plenty of space for mountains, streams and beaches. BUT, it's contingent on a big couple of "if"s Aragond - setting the record str8 since 2011.

Versous
RDR Map IS NOT bigger than San Andreas, Probably it's an half. in SA you have jets and cars, in rdr horses! Not you again HAHA Don't laugh, that's a good point. RDR's horses are at the very least 3x slower than GTAs fastest car. The greatly added room to GTA V will serve only as a plus to the planes. *rolleyes* We're talking about the SIZE of the map, not about how fast you can cross the map LMFAO. Vormek
Guys, if RockStar only made one city (I'm almost 100% they did), then you can expect it to be huge. I can almost guarantee that Los Santos will be MASSIVE this time, completely revamped with lots of details, well-planned infrastructure, more lively than ever before! I can almost guarantee you this! Los Santos will probably be between 3 - 5 times bigger than GTA4 and that's only the city. The countryside will be huge this time! I bet you it'll be bigger than San Andreas' country side as well! Fuzzknuckles
LA Noire:- Huge map, nothing to do RDR: - Huge map, somethings to do, but nothing afterwards People screaming for a big map don't realize how big and useless things are gonna be... Unless it's filled with awesome cars, bikes, planes, buildings to jump off, things to blow up... should I continue? Signatures are dumb anyway. ziggymank
Remember guys, someone had previously mentioned the fact that during all of the different shots of Los Santos that were in the trailer, not one of them showed the massive mountain (that the hikers were standing in front of) or the wind farm. I've got a feeling that this game is going to be much larger than we think. Hah, what if the mountain in the background was just a part of a photoshoot :

Hah, what if the mountain in the background was just a part of a photoshoot :3 While it very well may be, it's still completely hidden from view during the various shots of Los Santos (which are taken from plenty of different angles). This leads me to believe that it's actually quite a good distance away from the main city. Unless you were implying that it's not actually going to be in the game, just a bit of scenery being used for the trailer. I honestly doubt that Rockstar would be that cruel. Yeah, map size is slightly overrated in my opinion. Two of the best open-world/sandbox style games i've played (San Andreas and Morrowind) have fairly small maps by today's standards. It's pointless having a huge map if it's no fun to explore or has nothing to do in it.
Magic_Al
I'm going to try to measure the size Red Dead Redemption myself because there are too many numbers being thrown around. http://www.reddead-series.com/it/red-dead-...tion/mappe.html has extracted the full zoomed-in map. Some careful travel and recording of distance stats should produce enough data to convert distance to pixels and then area can be measured on the map. RDR could be like GTAIV map or maybe smaller.

Ah well, you have only yourself to blame for not having a big enough imagination. A bunch of open space may seem pointless to some but to others it can provide hours of fun Not only that though, but a bigger map simply makes you feel less restricted, which is essentially the fundamental aspect of any game that claims to be a sandbox game. artie
As long as Los Santos is similar in size or slightly bigger than Liberty City, and the surrounding area is at least the size of the city, this should be pretty awesome.
