Scharkey
This may be stupid, but I was wondering, given the multiple angles of LS shown, if anyone has or is willing to attempt to make an educated guessed map. Then factor in the countryside and possible small towns on the outskirts, all in relation to GTA IV's map size. I think it would be interesting to see our guestimations come close to exact or super under-guessed compared to the confirmed map size.
titans12321
Someone on another thread did the math, and came up with something around 85 sq miles. It's rumoured that it is 2.5x bigger than RDR.
Scharkey
85sq miles would be massive! I was disappointed by the exclusion of SF and LV but I honestly don't believe we'll be disappointed with the varied landscape and possible multiple small towns surrounding the area. Start with the biggest landmark in GTA V and GTA SA, the U.S. Bank Tower (the tallest building). Assume the building is life-size in both games and compare the size of the GTA SA map to the size of the tower, then look at how much space is around the tower in GTA V. I get the impression that the city and countryside surrounding SA's LS equals just the city of LS in V. Then the destert, SF, and LV equal our countryside and small towns in V. Maybe multiply the map a couple times at that too.. given the size of RDR edit: just noticed http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=490753 Edited November 4, 2011 by Scharkey

skillz7855
If RDR add streets and cities that game would have been bigger and more detailed then GTA SA now add 2.5x for GTA V Edited November 4, 2011 by skillz7855
Versous
Sorry for confusing you guys. But apparently they have CHANGED the article. Yesterday it said that Dan Houser himself told them that the map will be nearly 2.5 times bigger than RDR! That's why my last Thread got locked. PublicAnenome
I made one based on the locations we saw and the position of the sun in the sky in each scene. Unfortunately I am too stupid/old to figure out how to get it to appear on this forum. I still cannot find a place for the bridge, and cannot tell where the freeway (i5) goes... so I think there is another island.

I disagree about RDR. It has A LOT of things to do all over the map. Without the animals it would have been something else though. I guess it all boils down to what you enjoy doing in an open world game.

The terrain was new, so the wide empty space was a change instead of the clusterf*ck of cities we've seen over the years.

lefantome
RDR Map IS NOT bigger than San Andreas, Probably it's an half. in SA you have jets and cars, in rdr horses!
PublicAnenome
Nice one dudes. Thanks for the help. Yes, I know this map is awful, I'm a writer not an artist. Please feel free to add/modify/destroy. This is a rough map based on actual locations in the trailer and the position of the sun and directions of the shadows in each scene. The location of Chilliad is unclear but I think that scene is in the morning, hence it's position. NO BRIDGE YET!

SonofUgly
@PublicAnenome Looks good. Couple things: the city center seems a bit more more northern, like just north of the actual center of the city. The vineyards feel like they're either just east of the Vinewood sign or just north of the northern most suburbs. I think I'd put the windfarm north of the mountain, east of vinewood. And the bridge in the skidoo scene off the south east corner.

I couldn't figure out a good location for the windfarms, the end of the freeway, and definitely not the large bridge. Where do you think the bridge leads? Not you again HAHA Don't laugh, that's a good point. RDR's horses are at the very least 3x slower than GTAs fastest car. The greatly added room to GTA V will serve only as a plus to the planes. I think its this bridge: Yep, could be, it's definitely an industrial area. I was hoping it might lead to another signifcant landmass... Oh well, I've done my map now, and I'm probably just going to leave it to other people to modify or scrap it as they see fit. I'm just unsure of putting anything I didn't actually see, or see the position of. Don't want to get my hopes up

Don't want to get my hopes up Yeah I thought it was a big bridge too, linking Fierro to Venturas, but it doesn't seem like it . Been trying to keep my hype down as much as I can. I might mess with your map later, move things around a bit, or just put a compass on it (kept getting lost trying figure out which way was north ). GRINCH ASS BITCH
Remember guys, someone had previously mentioned the fact that during all of the different shots of Los Santos that were in the trailer, not one of them showed the massive mountain (that the hikers were standing in front of) or the wind farm. I've got a feeling that this game is going to be much larger than we think.
