abottig
R* have confirmed that V will take place in a re-imagined Southern California: "Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California."--R* Press Release What comprises present day California? Southern California (SoCal) is a megaregion, or megapolitan area, in the southern area of the U.S. state of California. Large urban areas include Greater Los Angeles, Greater San Diego, the Inland Empire and Orange County. The urban area stretches along the coast from Ventura through the Southland and Inland Empire to San Diego. The international border of the United States and Mexico makes up the southern border. Southern California is a major economic center for the state of California and the nation.--Wikipedia GTA V will be comprised of multiple cities. Just not the ones that we were all expecting. Also, there is a strong possibility that we get involved in some sort of cross border U.S./Mexican drug war. Also: I've been following GTA releases VERY closely since the lead-up to Vice City when I was only 16. Every single time we get ready for another game, the haters pop up. People start doubting R*'s ability to give us more than our money's worth. Let me tell you this: Rockstar have NEVER fumbled on a GTA release. And as much hype as we put into the lead-up, the final product always somehow knocks people on their ass. Get ready. GTA V is going to be enormous. TruXter
They will all be in there. The video footage was mostly in the same location, like a 2 block area, you see the same building and atm sign with the same sign next to it like three times. all other photos are distance and up in the air so as to not show any signs that say los venturas or san fiero. It will all be in there. it's obvious.

Death2Drugs
Map should be good. Hoping for a mission where you take down the cartels (like you indirectly took down the Russian Mob).

A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California. I can focus on playing my violin while I enjoy my watermelon gum I can focus on this conversation while I pet my cat Define focus. Does it mean "totally and completely positively correctly mimic and be limited only to duplicating" or does it mean 100% tunnel vision ? They called iii san andreas "los santos" when it was released. thedamned38
yeah i dont mind at all... i'd rather have 1 really large detailed city and it's surrounding areas rather than 3 half-assed cities given the technicalities and disc space limitations on these systems. i will miss las venturas but i never thought revisiting san fierro wouldnt be too appealing. xUSMC SSGTx
GTA V will be comprised of multiple cities. Just not the ones that we were all expecting. Also, there is a strong possibility that we get involved in some sort of cross border U.S./Mexican drug war. How do you know that? You assume that just because GTA:Los Crapos is going to be BASED on southern california that they will include ALL of the geography of the real world SoCal? You all need to remember, Los Crapos is NOT Los Angeles! Its BASED on LA. This game will offer ONE major city (LC) and maybe a small town or two in the countryside. Dont get your hopes up to high. fastdriver
I think we are taking "Southern California" out of context. Rockstar confirmed Los Santos and the surrounding beaches and countryside. I'm pretty sure they meant to say that Los Santos is a good representation of "South California."

Mafioso86
I'm trying really hard not to get to excited about the border thing in case it doesn't make it in... but it sounds so awesome. I mean if you can go into the modern Mexican border there will be drug cartels and there will be Mexican army duking it out with all kinds of insane weapons and vehicles and the would be no "it's not realistic to have tanks and fighter jets" excuse as we saw in IV. Not to mention border running side missions and blowing up asshole minutemen and border patrol!

Mafioso86
Those how are doubting this do have a point though... the press release says "the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches". This makes me skeptical on the idea of getting San Diego, but I'm sure some suburbs will be in and if we're really lucky a bit of Mexico (someone mentioned Alderney not being part of Liberty City, so why not?) tinman187
Yeah i never really was a fan of Las Venturas and expecially San Fierro. I only enjoyed Los Santos, The Countryside and the Desert. So when i heard that San Fierro and Las Venturas werent included i didnt mind at all Looking forward to causing chaos in the Valley of cause, if there is a little Mexico borderline, that would crazy Imagine driving towards the border with a 6 star wanted level hehehe Edited November 4, 2011 by tinman187
FelipeVinhao
I must admit that I'll miss San Fierro and Las Venturas a little, but I'm pretty sure Rockstar will impress us with this "small" piece of land. Also, for the first time, we'll have avenues and highways that have more than 4 lanes (both coming and going).

Also, there is a strong possibility that we get involved in some sort of cross border U.S./Mexican drug war. We don't know this. Anyway, the reason we need San Francisco and Las Vegas is there aren't really any cities in SoCal other than Los Angeles and San Diego (which itself is more or less a smaller, blander version of LA) the rest of the "cities" in Southern California are just sprawling planned suburbs (Orange County etc) that are pretty much identical to the suburbs of L.A. anyway. They'd be no replacement for San Fierro and Venturas, but I guess it'd be better than nothing if we do get San Diego and Orange County ... but I'm not sure Rockstar will bother with San Diego since it's so similar to Los Angeles anyway.
