TheNathanNS
Victor - never forget you / always remember you bro", "RIP Claude", "RIP Toni", "remember Tommy - u r still my hero", "Carl I love you RIP everyone miss you", "RIP Vic". Did you remember that? Unfortunately, everybody from the III era are dead. No Tommy, no Claude, sorry. Maybe in GTA V, the Vinewood cemetery has a headstone with "RIP CJ ????- 2001" etc.
VaroSpain
No, no it would not. It would be like putting the main character from red dead revolver in red dead redemption.... oh wait, they did. So don't be so closed mined. Not the same character. Red Dead Revolver : Red Harlow Red Dead Redemption : John Marston So, NO TOMMY, NO CLAUDE, NO TONI, NO CJ, NO VINCE IN GTA V. DEAL WITH IT. I wasn't referring to that obviously, Red was a playable character in RDR MP. And for the record talking in caps doesn't make your point any more valid. K-Malo94
I Saw the pic of the same guy getting out the van, and the Hispanic man that was in the covertible was Also driving that van. I hope the Hispanic young man is the protagonist i don't want no "gang culture/ hip hop" BS for GTA.. not like San andreas... it does not work well in a GTA game Why do you automatically assume it would be hip-hop/gang related if the protag was the young Latin dude? iGrandTheftAuto
That snake with out a tongue.. the mute asshole.. he never talked in the previous GTA's, what makes you think he is going to talk now? jamieleng
The person who talked in the trailer said "you know how it is" wait a minute where did I hear that too? O yeah here Now what is more likely. That those same five words mean Tommy Vercetti is back. Or is it that the same person who wrote the script for Vice City is the same person writing it for GTA V 'Dan Houser'. Writers are always subconsciously re-using phrases. Dingdongs
Why is such a stupid thread granted 10 pages? We don't know who the next protag will be, that simple. The chance of it being a III era character again is almost impossible. R* has said the III era is TOTALLY over. That's it, gone. Done. No more. No, Rockstar has said "The Grand Theft Auto III timeline is not necessarily over." Link However they say the III world and the IV world are different because the IV world is high-definition and they don't think the two styles of characters can coexist. On the other hand, Max Payne continuity apparently continues from earlier low-def games to high-def Max Payne 3, so maybe the rules change to whatever ideas they have. KrisAlicious
claudes appearence in GTA SA was before GTA 3. GTA SA was set in 1992 and GTA 3 was set around 2001. how could he want something new if that was before 3?

BigAsHell856
There's nothing more than I want.. then to have Tommy return or even Claude.... Back in the day when S.A was going to be titled "Sin City" we were going to play as Tommy again in a new city... I remember seeing and reading about it ( I remember pictures of Tommy wearing a shirt with a bullet hole in his back bleeding) but I can never find them pictures again.. No BULLsh*t! *and ever such I became a member on this forum.. I keep on hearing people saying the GTA 3 Era is over and no one from that era is coming back for GTA 5, at the same time they say people from the "GTA 4 ERA!" will come back.. it makes no sense... I don't know how many times I have to say this Rock* has said, the GTA 3 ERA ain't truly over yet! Until Rock* come out with info, Im gonna have hope for old face's returning.. and TBH: If Rock* say old GTA 3 characters are coming back, I can't wait to rub everyone who disagree and talk so much sh*t on everyone that thinks they will return.. but at the same time if they do decided no returning of old characters, I won't be happy but its the way they did and thats ROCKSTAR and fair enough.. ch3vychas3
If you read the other threads the protagonist has been confirmed to be the old guy on the balcony, voiced by Ned Luke, his name is Ray and 53 years old and is a badass mobster from Liberty City way. Razzerian
Time to pop the first post cherry! Let me start by saying I've been a GTA fan for a long time, I started back in the late '90s with I think GTA 2 back than. Very eagerly anticipated the release of GTA III, in fact I think it was one of my first major "title anticipations". Back than I was like 13 years old or something so started to get in to some serious gaming. So you could say that GTA III has had a massive influence on the rest of my "gaming life" (god that sounds geeky, whatever, who cares?) Now, let me say that I do not think the protagonist will be Claude, sadly. Ever since GTA III --which really was the pioneer game in it's branche and I guess we could say it was the first real modern day GTA style game -- we've not had a main character become available again as a playable character. We've always followed in the footsteps of a new main character. Though often we've found clear references to previous main characters (which only adds to the fun for the die hard GTA players). So that's my first and main reason why I doubt it'd be Claude. However there are some so-called arguments out there which kind of disturb me. The one we see most commonly return is: "But Claude was a mute man!". I think it was Sam Houser who stated that the initial idea behind the "Claude" character was for it to represent the "player" himself. Thus not making him a mute but rather give "you" (the player) the freedom to think your own thing about what's going on in the game (it's called empathy people). The Claude character slowly developed throughout the years, mainly due to the "community". Hell it was years before we even found out his name. Initially it was the intention to give the players the option to name your own character, that got scrapped from the eventual release of GTA III though. So "Clause is a mute" is an invalid argument. Anyone with half a peanut in his skull will realise that if they do the least bit of research on the character and it's background. Some other argument I find rather invalid is the "his head is too thick" or "he looks too old". So in 1992 "Claude" was in his early/mid '20s. In GTA III he was probably ~31-33 years old. So him being ~45 in GTA V would make sense. The fact that he has a thicker head? When people age they tend to become broader, that includes their heads. Look at a picture of your father when he was 20 now look at how he looks now (assuming he's 40-55 years old). Most probably you'll see what I mean. Another thing by the way. I see a lot of "why do you guys keep thing the protangonist is the suite and not one of the other guys in the clip?". Well, IF the protagonist is int he clip that it would most likely be that guy. Why? Simple. Camera angle. the Side/backview could put you in "his shoes" whilst when you're looking straight at a character (in some of the other scenes with the hispanic guy & the black guy) you're looking more "at them" rather than "through them" if you know what I mean. Oh and concerning that entire hiphop argument from page 1/2 ... I highly doubt that R* would go down that direction again, I mean, Saints Row kind of put a label on that and we all kknow how crummy those games are. Also I doubt we'll get a hispanic guy as the protagnoist as we kind of just had that in one of the DLC's from GTA IV... not that I would mind. Though I always have preffered more of a "Mafia"-scene. I always loved the first chunk of missions in GTA III where you work for the mob. Anyway that's my two cents.
artie
I think our protagonist is going the path of every GTA game of the past....NEW! This will not be Claude. It's a dumb theory at best.
Finn 7 five 11
The man pictured is CLEARLY Charlie Sheen. Remember the GTA IV graffiti? The III era protags are GONE. In all honesty, they probably tricked us big time, the protag may never have been shown. Pretty certain that was just a joke of an easter egg, the III era protagonists are not dead in the IV Era, they are living it up in a different universe. There is some resemblance, maybe a much older version of Claude, but i think it just a coincidence, if you look for similarities, they are easy to find and people look similar, look for differences and it is a different story. TellEmRye
Claude this... Tommy that... CJ this... I think these speculations are rather stupid to be honest, R* aren't the sort of developer (imo) to bring back a character you once played as. However, does anyone reckon the dude with the tattoos & vest looks like Caeser from SA? I think that's more likely.
