Rockstar definitely made the best decision

I honestly want to see another GTA IV detailed like city than 3 that would most definitely not be of the same quality. We probably wont see maps like that until next gen.

I think it could definitely be done (Meaning another tri city state), but the end result would suffer. JC2 has a huge map, but the city of Panua really lacks quality and detail compared to cities like we've seen in GTA IV, even LA Noire.

Immersion is very important to me and a detailed city plays a big part of that.

People use GTA IV as an example of quality over quantity, but in my opinion that's a terrible example to support the tradeoff. Liberty City in GTA IV just felt like an empty shell to me. There were hardly any buildings you could actually go inside of. Sure it looked nice... but the lack of diversity and things you could actually do just made it boring. If that's Rockstar's idea of a detailed, immersive city, i'd honestly rather they went back to SA's level of detail and have a larger, more diverse map.

This. For all of the talk about detail at the end of the day San Andreas was more fun for me (and a majority of fans). Who cares about detail up to the level they did in GTA 4 is the real question. I think it got to the point that they wasted resources that could of been used on things fans wanted more. (Like planes..) I mean seriously who thinks GTA IV would of been better with one more lanugauge added to the peds dialigoue, vs planes?

Las Venturas- Alright vegas was built by the mafia. So in the 50s there was a ton of high level crime, but its not like that anymore. The mafia doesn't really f*ck with casinos in present day vegas. So I don't think vegas can stand alone unless you go back the 50s when the mafia controlled it. Who the f*ck wants gta in the 50s though?

I think Venturas has a lot of potential, actually. I don't think the Mafia even has to be involved, honestly, but they still certainly have a presence. Think about it: you're a native American man, and your tribe runs a casino...then GTA stuff happens. Drive-bys and shootouts on the strip, casino heists, yada yada. I know a lot of that has been done on SA, but...the SCALE, man! And more in-depth. Not to mention the Mojave desert. Lot's of crazy sh*t happens there. I think it would be perfect for an Episode, or a non-numbered V sequel (Grand Theft Auto: Las Venturas has a nice ring to it). Not disagreeing, though, that LS was the best choice of the three, considering cultural relevance and pure potential (if you set a game in LV, you HAVE to involve casinos and gambling...Los Santos carries no such stipulation).

Agreeing that VC is probably not gonna show up again. This coming from someone who calls Vice City their favorite GTA. It's simply no longer culturally relevant. All it's known for today is being full of bleach-blonde tramps and having the douchiest basketball team ever. Unless...a Gulf of Mexico based game. It could have Vice City, New Orleans, and Cancun. icon14.gif

Midwest cities, I would love. I'm thinking Chicago, Detroit (Carcer), and Minneapolis/St. Paul. That's 4 cities for the price of 3. Though, I really would only like M/SP, because it's the capitol of my state. confused.gif I'm sure there's a better midwest city that would fit it. Cleveland, maybe? Is that considered midwest? If not, you could maybe do Chicago, Detroit, then several smaller-yet-semi-sizable cities representing places like Columbus, Sioux City, Fargo, Milwaukee, and St. Louis. To call the idea 'boring' displays your lack of creativity. The Midwest is all about the crystal meth and racism. It would be the darkest, most heavy-handed GTA ever. Also kind of like the backwoods area of SA multiplied times like a billion. Think about it. Personally, I just want Detroit/Carcer to be an anarchistic hellhole.

Then you got your lower/eastern midwest. Places like Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Indianapolis, DC, and the aforementioned Cleveland (which recently was one of the most violent places in America). I agree there's not a whole lot to work with there. I'm just gonna leave it at that. I'm sure someone from the area could make a decent case for it.

Places in GTA are supposed to be loose parodies of places in the real world. This point alone completely undermines your arguments against Vice City or Las Venturas as suitable settings.

As for not being able to do 3 cities in one game? Bullsh*t. They managed to do SA in a relatively short period of time. With their budget and current technology, there's really no reason at all why they couldn't do the same again only more detailed and on a slightly larger scale.

Detailed being the key word. I doubt R* would/could retain GTA IV/RDR like quality across 3 cities plus countryside and desert.

This is exactly how I feel, SA was good, but the Cities suffered a bit because there was three of them. So I'm pretty glad that V is going to be LS and some countryside, Los Santos can be amazing if done to the Level of LC in IV.

Now on the Topic of the OP:

And about Vice not being possible and relevant due to Miami not being the Capitol of the Drug world (and world as a whole since it was huge in the 80's) I'm calling BS, now yeah it isn't at the glory for lack of better words of the old Cocaine Cowboy era, but there's still Drug and people Smugglers coming from Cuba and the Dominican Republic, on top of the street gangs and stuff already there.

Not to mention Rockstar can do what they want, since it's there city, and if I remeber there was Mention of Smugglers coming from VC to LC in IV. I honestly think VC has potential, and it dosen't have to be Modern day or the 80's I for one would like something in the early 90's in VC focusing around gun trade after the USSR fell.

But do you realize how sparse SA was, compared to even GTAIV? I mean they had to do three detailed cities, which weren't even that big because of what they were working with, and had to leave other places to be a lot more sparse than they could have been if they'd stuck to one or two cities, instead of three. It's a good thing they're just sticking to one, not only because it means they'll be able to add more games with those cities in them, but there won't be as sparse an outlook of the map, then there would be if they did all three cities again and wanted detail. Even in a PS3/360, they'd have to tone down the detail they're looking to get, which by R* themselves, said it was the most ambitious GTA to date. I think that in and of itself, is good enough to tell you how detailed and rich Los Santos is going to be, including the surrounding area.

This^^^ We don't know that LS will be the only cities there could be other cities as well, and of course small towns.
