gta sa will still be the biggest map. HOW can they make 1 city bigger then ALL of sanandreas? Sanandreas from ps2 was STILL bigger then the gta IV map. I dont think its possible. I have 50/50 faith with rockstar now. I had full faith until i found out its only los santos. Sanandreas is not the same with 1 city only. Liberty city got the same 3 islands that it had in gta 3 for 4. So... why cant 5 sanandreas get the same treatment. Whats next, vice city without the beach?

True, but remember it's not all about the shear size of the map. San Andreas was big, but no where NEAR as lively and detailed as Liberty City was in IV.

Also, icon14.gif for your sig.

SA had stupidly small, un-detailed cities. You can clearly see in the trailer that LS is gigantic. There is also mention of surrounding countryside / mountains etc, so that pretty much accounts for lots of other large detailed areas packed with towns and villages. R* Have also said that it is their biggest and most ambitious game yet. Think how big RDR's map was. I expect it to be pretty similar, if not a little bigger.

No it is about sheer size of map sometimes. If gta 5 doesn't have the biggest map of any rockstar game Im gonna be pissed the f*ck off.

If the V map / land mass isnt close to the size of San Andreas' ps2 map then imo it wasnt worth it to do 1 city. BUT once

again I say, prove me wrong Rockstar!

Though this picture sure does make V look gigantic, but 2 other cities would have been nice. confused.gif

People should stop complaining after seeing this pic the map looks gigantic and we cant even see over to the left and whats behind the mountain over there. I'm not disappointed in the slightest at just having Los Santos.

But where does Rockstar say it will be bigger than the SA map? I would like to see this quote?

It talks about it recreating Southern California, so maybe there's smaller cities as well? Don't just assume the city will be small with heaps of countryside. Who knows what Rockstar have planned. Just don't jump the gun on this one.

Don't think they directly mention map size, but from the Newswire on their site

The design process is not how your're picturing it yes there is a discussion but it doesn't really involve more than 4 people. Dan and Sam Houser, The Benz and Aaron Garbut. Its not a consensus decision someone has to lead with the initial idea which is usually Sam or Dan(after all they are in chrage) if it was all design by committee then we'd have a sh*t game probably with no soul.

Of course features to include in the game can be discussed to a larger extent with other employees in a meeting, but the starting city and characters of choice or done by the main four guys.

They have one city I assume because of hardware limitations preventing them from having 3. They would have to have the same level of detail in EACH city think how much GB's that would take up on a disc I dont think the 360 is capable of that maybe the ps3 but Im not sure in this area.

I know it doesn't, I've read the interviews and about R*'s delevopment process. But I know in a room of 4 people, one of them had to dissent, at least I hope one did.

It's not a matter of "reusing locations" because this is Los Santos entirely redone from the ground up. Did you notice that the Griffith Park observatory is now in its correct location instead of the other side of the city? Saying that Los Santos is being "reused" from San Andreas is like saying Liberty City was "reused" from GTA III.

They're redoing a game about Southern Californian culture only set in 2012 instead of 1992. Yes Los Santos has changed, but the overall theme (and arguably mood) hasn't. There are many other regions and cities that fans have been asking for, and it's not as if they havn't had 3 years to figure out somewhere else.

Stop complaining! Since when did Rockstar make a game tailoring to your every desire?

If you really feel so strong about this, boycott the game or something.

I happen to know a lot of people are very happy with how GTA V is looking.

How dare I criticize a new GTA game huh? I mean seriously where do some of you get off? I never asked for them to tailor it to my every desire, but this recycling of Southern California is bothering me. But I still love Rockstar. I still love their products, so I'll give it a chance by renting it.

And great for them, glad they like LA that much.

San Andreas' LS was not vastly detailed. Stop lying.

The beginning and ending of the game were set in Los Santos. I would say a plurality of the missions were too. Also it was detailed enough, I don't see why every GTA game needs to be so fleshed out and realstic in the first place. Having 5 different lanuages from peds isn't going to make things more fun...

Is it just me? Or was'nt this forum FULL of people screaming FOR San Andreas? Now that it IS in San Andreas, people are complaining that it was'nt somewhere else. San Andreas already looks much different this time around, and we've only seen a small portion of the overall game. Rockstar has repeated many times that it will be BIGGER. What place could possibly offer MORE diversity in an environment? Southern Cal is a mix of urban, countryside and desert. The trailer itself showed downtown sections, mountain regions, suburban areas and farmland. Some have started the "they should have done Vice City again!" chants. Vice City? Really!? The SMALLEST map of the series? The expectations are insane.

Don't know why everyone wants a map like RDR when it really wasn't that big. Infact possibly smaller than IV's map.

It just felt big because of no cars or big buildings.

Well I concur that if the V map is as big as the SA map I shall be very happy indeed!

Plenty of area to have fun in.

I have a question, since Cali is one land mass, I assume, will LS have any water areas or smaller islands? If there is no smaller islands that would be awful. GTA is not GTA without other islands to travel to.

Your missing the point. When people said San Andreas they meant all three cities, not Los Santos or they would of been chanting for Los Santos. Then of all the cities to choose they choose Los Santos, as apposed to Las Venturas or San Fierro.

Thats what everyone is wondering... will there be any islands? it's looking less likely but we really havent seen

any countryside gameplay yet, or rather enough to warrant an appropriate guess.

Clearly you're being sarcastic in what you think went on in this apparent ''conference meeting''. Obviously their motives behind using just one major city instead of 3 wasn't meant to take away from the game. If you actually read what they said it wasn't just Los Santos, they clearly said Los Santos and the surrounding hills and country side, They will basically do SoCal, which is a massive MASSIVE area.

There are so many other communities and towns they can possibly put into this map with MUCH greater detail making it actually feel bigger and more realistic. Think about it, if they decided to do 3 major cities the level of detail within the cities would be a huge downgrade compared to what they could do with a more scaled down area.

So think about it people, doing All of So Cal makes A LOT more sense than doing 3 major cities. On this generation of consoles (which they probably could not handle all that detail and the massive map it would need to even make it feel like 3 separate cities). Believe me, i too was disappointed when i discovered only one city was being developed but after i thought about it this seemed like a lot more logical. I'm convinced the map will be bigger than San Andreas, or at the very least just as big. Which is more than enough when flying planes or going on a big road trip or whatever. Remember the level of detail needed to make a city is much more complex than doing country side or small communities obviously. So the fact it's only one city won't make it a smaller map, it will just make it more diverse with countryside landscape, mountains and maybe even some lakes and forests.

Sorry for the rant, had to get it off my chest, seen too many people complaining about the game ''only'' having one city when in reality it's much bigger than that. It will be a fantastic game.

My point went a little further. Like i said before, it's only the first trailer. They have only given us a tiny sample, and even within that tiny sample, we saw places that OBVIOUSLY were nowhere near each other. Unless you think that those mountains are mere blocks away from that underpass with the "los santos" grafitti? Or how about that farm? Those wind turbines? Good grief.

Sounds pretty promising to me folks! The bar has been raised, not 3 small cities but massive detailed one.

Countryside beaches, surrounding hills = epically big battle arenas for online play with airplanes alien.gif

This is going to blow your socks off, and sinse things are scaled up I think you can f*ck GTA SA's map in the mouth, it's not going to compare or be any larger than this!

I'm fairly certain after playing this nobody will play the old generations version again, plus we live in a land of DLCs... who knows what upgrades will follow.

Don't forget that this isn't a remake, it's a mostly new map. There will more than likely be a number of new towns, villages and farms etc behind the hills and far away. The map will seem huge. I really don't know why people are getting so worked up about this. I just can't wait to explore!

Exactly. Atleast this time around they can concentrate on putting more life into LS.

This was one of my gripes with the SA map. The 3 cities suffered, because R* spread it out over a compressed state. Yeah some people wont like me saying this, but GTA IV's LC I feel had more heart and soul than all 3 cities in SA. Even GTA III's LC and VC did IMO.

ccrogers15: GTA IV's map really wasn't that much smaller than SA and it was just an urban environment. R* have already made a bigger map than SA and it was in RDR.

GTA V has every chance to be bigger than SA was. Besides we don't what R* have in store for us outside of LS' city limits in terms of towns, or even smaller cities. I'm assuming the reason R* have apparently chosen LS is because generally it was the most popular city from SA and obviously they've taken notice of the bitching and moaning about the lack of countryside in GTA IV, so that's what they've given people.

With what the current gen consoles have proven to be able to do a map with city plus surrounding areas can easily topple the size of SA, because when you think about it the SA map really isn't that big. R* have already map a map bigger than SA with RDR and it's a well known fact.

SA fanboys seem to be running scared at the prospect their precious SA may not be the biggest GTA any more. Get over it. confused.gif
