Nebby
Okay, so I recently noticed how big the map of Los Santos is, and I figured I'd share this with all of you that are mad because you do not think one city is enough, and it really is...If you don't agree with me, please state why, and this topic does not need to be spam-horded with immature sh*t. Let's all act like adult's, here... Please also take note that there is really only one image that conclude my thinking to this, and it's OBVIOUSLY from the trailer... Time to do a little investigating... Now, I've marked the image with so pretty interesting thing's... So, let's start off, here. • (1. In this area, if you look past the midly annoying "BRUTE" machine, you can make out a huge suburb-like area. Now, if you notice the little white-ish dot's, those would be houses. Now if that's not enough to convince you that the map is huge, let's take a look at number 2. • (2. As you see, I included an enlarged image of what I'm trying to show you, here. There are a few comment's I'd like to make on this one, and the first one would bet that I am very impressed with the level of draw-distance, and especially if this trailer was made up of console only scenes, but I question this because there are a lot of rumours stating that we saw the PC version of the game, but regardless, it's amazing. The second comment I would like to make is that the building's shown are obviously very, very, VERY far away, and it doesn't look like that's where the map would awkwardly just stop, either, resulting in even more area's, and probably a dessert like place. But, I'd bet my money on an airport being over in the area. That's all I could really find, but if you guy's would like to continue to look at this image or any more skyline-like image's from the trailer, be my guess. To mod's: if this is not needed, you can go ahead and lock. I figured that this would not fit with the trailer analysis topic considering it's not about the trailer... pdbq
whose doubted that the NEW los santos is small? its only because in SA it wasn't all that and i think people are assuming as is reported by R* its only one city, people are thinking that the map size wont be increased. Nice analysis though

Waterboy_Dave
L.A itself is insanely large and sprawling. I think the GTA rendition will do it justice.
adrian949
the sun sets in the ocean(west) in LA. SO that area is fading into what is the ocean
NYC PATROL
The white dots are actually fake cars i believe like what GTA IV did when you got really far away from the roads to make it feel more alive. You can see the white dots moving on the left side in the road in the GTA V Trailer at the Oil pump scene. Watch what i mean here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=playe...QdjfHYGR0#t=62s (GTA V) And heres the same technique used in IV (GTA IV) Edited November 3, 2011 by NYC PATROL

You can't quite make it out, but 2 is definitely pointing to the ocean and not endless terrain. The sun is setting, meaning it's facing west. The only thing west of LA is the Pacific. mafiahitman14
@Method ,your obviuosly smart in these kinds of things so do you think Rockstar will include smaller cities such as San Diego. and very nice observation by the way.
wildstyle91
I'm willing to bet there is a lot more land on the other side of that mountain.
Ispintechno
From way back to the mountains, or behind the mountains, to the spot where we are in the photo, must be about 8 miles. And where we are is at a freeway still going behind us. Easy 10-12 miles of map. If included is vast country side, maybe desert to the south east. I think we'll be playing with possibly 20 miles of land in both directions! Possibly more with small towns. If the ocean contains boats, maybe an aircraft carrier out there, possibly another five miles of fun ocean territory before it turns into never ending waves of nothing. I don't think we can expect much more, if the game will be indeed 8gig in size. The fact of the matter is R* must be better at compression these days to give us what this trailer shows. I'm betting the coding is worlds better than GTA4, and makes sense, that was when the platform was new. I would predict in the area of either; 10x10 miles = 100 square miles of map 20x20 miles = 400 square miles of map. Or any size in between. Sounds maybe too big but I dunno... Dick Valor
That screenshot is definitely facing west/northwest from the east side of LS. That freeway is most likely Interstate 5, which runs through East L.A. There is definitely something to the north of those mountains, possibly the San Fernando Valley. To the west (where the sun is setting) is most definitely the Pacific. This all suggests to me that LS only makes up a small portion of the west side of V's map (all that is west of here may be the Channel Islands and Ventura County to the northwest). If V is geographically accurate, the windmill scene and desert is "two hours" east (or behind) where this screenshot would be taken from. That vineyard scene is most likely northwest of this shot, either directly north of LS (Kern County) or, more likely, to the northwest of Malibu/west of the Valley (Ventura County). I'm guessing "Mt. Chiliad" will be northeast of LS and parody the Angeles Mountains this time around, but it's hard to say where that behemoth will be. From this shot and those rural screenshots, it's obvious both LS and the rest of the map will be ginormous.

LotusRIP
Wrong. Why would they use so much disc space for what is essentially, an endless sprawl of exurbia. What would be interesting about a life-like sized city full of predominately this: I think it will be a big city, but the primary focus will probably be having diversity more than anything. The combination of urban areas, countryside, rural towns, mountain ranges... will all come together to make one epic playing environment - even if this means the city will be marginally smaller than Liberty City. Don't get your hopes up too much, because you do realise that Los Santos looks pretty big in San Andreas screenshots too...

The Notorious MOB
If this map is to be believed and the GTA V map is done to the same scale as L.A. Noire which only contains 3 districts of LA then the map is gonna be ENORMOUS.
nickelist1
Actually, the map might be bigger than LA Noire
Girish
I figured that this would not fit with the trailer analysis topic considering it's not about the trailer... It's about mapping Los Santos and we already have a topic for that. Feel free to re-post in that topic.
