BathSaltsDontWorkInTheShower.
In all of my time on this site I've came across several topics that ask people who their favourate guitarists, singers, bands etc are but I've never saw a one for bass players. One of the most vital in a typical rock band but at the same time the most under appreciated. I don't even care if I get no responses on this or if it only lasts about a day, I'll sleep well knowing I did my part for my favourate instrument. My list: - Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) - Fieldy (Korn) - Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers) - Billy Gould (Faith No More) - John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) I'm also a fan of guys like Alex Webster of Cannibal Corpse and Dee Dee Ramone who for me is one of the most under-rated bass players ever (as are most punk players). There are more that I'm fond of but these guys are my personal favourates.

Slamman
Gene Simmons... KISS Just watch Family Jewels and you can't help but get to like him. It's a real insight after so many eons being just a casual observer of the "demon" Of the coolest I know, Pete Way of UFO, Roger Waters without question, and Geddy Lee is also a very down to Earth musician, friend to all Edited November 4, 2011 by Slamman

*MURDOC*
A lot of good ones in here. I'd like to add Victor Wooten and Stanley Clarke. Two of my favourites.

Mr White0161
1) Geddy Lee (Rush) 2) John Paul Jones (Led-Zeppelin) 3) Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) 4) John Entwistle (The Who) ...That's about it, I'm not really into bass guitar.
Mikeol1987
Maybe not a favourite from technical ability, although not to undermine his playing, as it is very good.. but more on the creative side... Peter Hook of Joy Divisions bass riffs carried most of their songs and he was almost the lead guitarist in some ways. also really like Les Claypool RIP Rockstar Games 1998 - 2021

Rhoda
I'm a big fan of Les Claypool and his "dribbling" bass techniques. I dig John Paul Jones as a solo musician too, his albums are great, didn't really expect that style from him after hearing what he brought to Led Zeppelin. xxxSIDESH0Wxxx
i agree with most of the bass players already mentioned, figured i'd add my two favorites who are much lesser known, but you guys might enjoy. different styles and all that... Joe Lally: bass player for Fugazi. Another guy i find amaing is Chris Wood. He's from a jazz trio called Medeski, Martin, & Wood. for a change of pace from the rock for a minute or two... Mr White0161
...That's about it, I'm not really into bass guitar. How does this even happen I prefer six-strings. That's just me, I never really ever thought highly to bass. I know it is important to balance everything out but sometimes I find it unnecessary. Seeing as how this is a bass topic I'm probably not going to be liked by most in here, I should stay with my people in the guitar topic
unopescio
Apples and oranges. But to me the bass is more juicy.
Rhoda
I love bass much more than guitar, and I don't even know why. I think I just like the sound, and how percussive it seems. Bonus points if you can play one like a guitar.
SIKKS66
Geezer Butler, Steve Harris, Gene Simmons, Cliff Burton. Not just "passenger" bass players, these guys put their own massive input to the creation of their band's music, lyrics and mythology.
willgtavcs
1. Cliff Burton 2. Justin Chancellor 3. Roger Waters 4. Rex Brown 4. Paul Mccartney First post in god knows how long. pretty good topic since i've been getting into playing bass a bit more recently, nice challenge with vocals I guess. Still probably easier that singing to guitar riffs in some respects. Screw Hetfields ability to multitask, although he does forget lyrics a lot. Banks.
I'm a big fan of Flea. His energy is amazing and he is a unique guy. Anyone remember that RHCP concert where Flea is prancing around the stage naked while playing the bass guitar. f*cked up
