im sorry for bumping this thread. but i have a question and i feel like this is the best topic to ask. so im planning a trip to los angeles soon. and i want to go to the equivalent of mirror park in real life. i heard its based on multiple parks. but i want to know which one is the closest to it.

This is seriously one of my favorite threads on the forums thanks to the sheer quality of sleuthing here. thank you for bumping it honestly. if you use the OP's interactive map you can easily find 1:1 recreations of almost everywhere on the map

the actual park itself is echo, the surroundings are a mix of silver lake and echo. the actual park has the exact same footbridge, the exact same island in the middle of the lake, the same view of the LA skyline, and the exact same boathouse (and in real life you can rent one of the swan boats). not to mention the same shape and general pedestrian pathways circling around. its also just the better location to visit id say.

Looking at this incredibly long and detailed thread, I'm curious has anyone here or elsewhere ever counted or tried to count the total number of buildings in the game (or at least get a close estimate)? Or in any of the other GTA games? Like is that a thing anyone cares about or has tried to do? I've always wanted to know that, it would just be interesting to compare the number of buildings in different games or to real life towns/settlements, similar to how stats about map size can be interesting. Given the amount of stats and info about the games/maps that are out there or that people have figured out I'm surprised these aren't readily available numbers.

That would be very difficult to find out but I believe we can have an estimate at least.

We've got some data from the interactive map (link in the first post). We've listed nearly every landmark/point of interest in the game. That includes not only buildings but other things such as statues, bridges, roads, signs, parks, rivers, mountains...

There are 2303 dots on the map and a big majority of that is in fact buildings. I'd say more than 90% so more than 2000 buildings in GTAV. It's nowhere close to the number of buildings in Los Angeles though but still, 2000 individual buildings in a game, I'd say that's impressive.

I have no idea about other games but it could be quickly figured out for GTA 3 at least, maybe Vice City.

Hello. I have been doing a similar search for GTA San Andreas for half a year now, but unlike GTA5, in my case I have to look not for specific places and buildings, but for sources that were photographed and used to create textures in the game. For example, there may be a completely fictional building in the game, but it will contain the textures of some other buildings that actually exist in one of the real cities. Of course, it is impossible to dispute that in the GTA San Andreas game there are absolute replicas from three real cities, for example, Whisky a Go Go in Los Santos, the famous souvenir shops in San Fierro, or any of the major casinos in Las Venturas. But I also find a lot of buildings of random architecture with no resemblance to any of the real options, but using a real store sign or an image of a merchandise display.

And if I wanted to create a map of San Andreas for markers with coordinates from real cities in the US - I could not decide how to deal with such fictional buildings that do not have an exact similarity but have used textures from different places along with stock textures from old texture packs.

Now I'll try to give a clear example: I found a Guadalajaraa jewelry store on South Broadway in Los Angeles, but there is no analogue to Broadway in San Andreas. Instead, the banner of Guadalajara is located probably more than 5 times in different places in Los Santos. And the store front of this jewelry store is also found in many places. Even where it's inappropriate. Even the pawnshop behind the Johnsons' house uses this store front, regardless of the clear inscriptions about the jewelry store.

I've already found over 100 real world locations through google panoramas that somehow participate in the texturing of San Andreas. And even a large time gap between the release of the game and the first photos from the panoramas is not an obstacle for me in such a search.

I decided to do similar things in Vice City, which turned out to be even more difficult due to the rather long period of creating textures (2002), but if any of you dare to make a map of Vice City with a search for real places for it, I am ready to provide my developments , addresses and coordinates in order to help such a project.

I save all my efforts in the form of screenshots and sometimes write down the address of the real building. I mention the ones I like most on my videos on YT. My videos have Russian voice acting, but I always attach subtitles in different languages.

This is really awesome, thank you! That's definitely impressive. The interesting thing to me is how even though that's obviously only a fraction of the buildings in a real city they're able to make it feel like one. Like it's probably really only the amount in a small town or whatever. I love how they make that work.

Wonderful thread. Great Job. Some of those i knew already from movies etc... like the Arcadius or the Observatory.

Really beautiful to see the real life counterpart of West Dock Pier 400, Wonderama, Elysian Doc Forgery, Devin's Hangar, the old Casino and Racetrack and also... the Terminal 4... (i'm creating a survival there). Too bad for Hangar 1, GoPostal building in Airport and Bilgeco Vehicle Warehouse. I wonder if there is Devin's Mansion as well...

PEOPLE, leaks of the GTA 6 map supposedly came out, do you know if this thread will continue to live for this new installment, or will there be a new one???

I believe we'll have to make do with the mapping thread already open in the GTA VI section and move all the discussion over there.

I asked to take point on that but so far the mods can't make it happen so we'll just have to jump in and take over MUHAHAHA

How nice to hear from you again, Don Fido.
could you send the link of that new "thread"

Damn !

Good thing I downloaded all the videos 😁

We saved all videos, but, unfortunately, there is no access to screenshots of publications from forum members where we found real building prototypes. It would be great if any of the forum admins shared them in a mailbox or in some social network in private messages, but I do not insist

I've been trying to find a match for 2044 North Conker Ave in game. The best and closest property I could find was 7145 Pacific View Drive in Hollywood Hills, LA. It's not a complete match, however it's a stilt home, the colour palette is similar and the a section of the roof textures are similar also. I haven't been able to find an image online or a url for this one but I'll keep trying.

I've also found similarities between John Lautner's Foster Carling residence and the first property on Kimble Hill Drive, Vinewood Hills, Los Santos. The similarities being the shape and colour of the house and the properties position to Hockey Trail (road).

Happy to see someone as crazy as me, still looking to find GTA V buildings ! 😆

Even more happy cause it looks like you found a new match with that Kimble Hill Drive location. I agree with you about the shape, location, colors and the solar panels on the roof. Definitely a match. I'll add it to the interactive map.

I'm less convinced about the first one however. There are similarities but it's also quite different.

I know it's not displayed on the satellite map, however, I've been wondering if anyone has found a match for La Fuente Blanca (Martin & Patricia Madrazo's Ranch) in Vinewood Hills. I've scrolled and scrolled through Google and reddit. I've came up pretty empty. Despite that, I have a few light suspicions about ranching/farming properties in the Lake Hughes/Elizabeth Lake Area, just north of Los Angeles. I'll list the addresses below:

-43788 Mountain View Rd, Lake Hughes CA

-14314 Kiptree Dr, Elizabeth Lake CA

-15612 Vista Del Lago, Elizabeth Lake CA

Again, these are only light suspicions. I'm not drawing up a conclusion based on them. It's very difficult to confirm similarities in these cases because of the limited street view access and the lack of 3D satellite imagery/coverage on Google Earth. All we can see is the color and shape of the roof and the overall property layout. Second of all, I'm probably not looking in the correct location, because La Fuente Blanca is located in the easternmost region of Vinewood Hills. However that may not matter, as we've previously seen IRL buildings and their in game counterparts located in wildly different areas, example: Buildings from South Central Los Angeles located in the sketchy region of Vinewood.

I'll keep searching, because I'm sure my initial suspicions are probably just reaching. I'm just so desperate to find the inspiration behind this property. Even to find something that bears a few similarities.
