Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

I never knew about that feature in the interactive map, very useful.

Unfortunately most of the buildings that remain are pretty nondescript so there is little use to knowing the styles if no one found the buildings notable in the first place. That mansion seemed to be quite the outlier, nevertheless I'll see what I can dig up.

By the way of the things: http://prntscr.com/6wi751what is that building?

I never played GTA:V and it's not sure if I will.

It's based lightly off the L.A Live projects and the Whilshire Grand Tower, including some designs of the Aon Tower.

I (and maybe many others making this thread) have noticed that some buildings that were in GTA San Andreas and Midnight Club Los Angeles are missing:

Hyatt Regency Century Plaza

Santa Monica Pacific Plaza

House of Blues

Ocean View Hotel (missing also in Midnight Club LA)

El Capitan Theatre

Vine Theatre

Taft Building

Or are any of these in game?

Of course it is impossible to have all the buildings, but these were in GTA SA and Midnight Club, so I found it a bit weird.. so many of these are missing. (Taking comparison pics between these games)

Decided to bring this thread back. It's been inactive for too long:

The Wigwam store in Vespucci might be an altered dupe of the coffee shop. I know this because the other places surrounding the coffee shop are the same:

Another post! When it comes to Subway entrances, we've had the most difficulty mapping this entrance:

B1A37861879732097010025B48C5DD876F7A2C11

And I think I know why: Because the inspiration for the glass may actually be outside of L.A. Here's a couple of examples:

Image #1: Clarendon Station in Arlington, VA.

Image #2: Washington D.C, VA.

8628591205_b14245dd5f_b.jpg

9719619535_bdc27f0d41_b.jpg

For comparison, these are the closest subway entrances I could find in L.A:

4201b97e_original.jpg?interpolation=lanc

mariachi_plaza9.jpg

EDIT: Even though these entrances have been brought up before, I haven't seen much discussion over them.

Another find! This one's the enigmatic tunnel that goes under the army base on the west coast of the map:

Road Tunnel, Great Ocean Highway, Lago Zancudo

033468FFA67D03012EC03F108ED1212B75F6DE47

Tunnel, Highway 61, Minnesota

tunnel.jpg

Like my previous post, I've looked around tunnels in California on Google Images, and (so far) I haven't found anything in the area that looks like the one in the game.

EDIT: Here's a tip from me - use the right click option "Search Google for this image" on the images in the website. It's how I discovered this tunnel. You won't find what you're looking for immediately, but if you use it right it can give you some great finds!

My fourth post in a row! Yeah, sorry. On the plus side, when other users decide to start posting here, we'll have plenty of things to talk about! Anyway, this sign was found a long time ago back in May of 2013, but it's never come back up again.

Real Life: Roy's Liquor sign, Marina Dr, Sandy Shores

In-Game: Bob's Liquor sign, St. Louis (Exact location unknown)

0_0.jpg

bobs-liquor.jpg

When it comes to this sign near the marina:

281973C3E4D4C00069D862D6538F5E10E08C5585

I've found two candidates: The first one has similar framing and a closer word layout, while the second one is closer in terms of overall design

IMG_1485.jpg

IMG_1522.jpg

And one more find, this time being the pool at the abandoned marina:

In-Game: Abandoned Pool, Sandy Shores Yacht Club, Marina Dr, Sandy Shores

Real Life: (Demolished) Pool, North Shore Beach & Yacht Club, Marina Dr & Sea View Dr, Mecca, CA

Gnocchi Flip Flops

Tunnel, Highway 61, Minnesota

tunnel.jpg

Interesting. I was messing around with Google Streetview on the 4th of July last year and took interest in Highway 61. I saw this and was like, "What a cool tunnel" (lol) but didn't think anything else of it after I moved on.

Only now do I see the resemblance.

Returning to find smaller parts of larger finds, here's one for the Betta Building:

In-Game: FLEECA Bank, Boulevard Del Perro, Morningwood

Real Life: Chase Bank, 10901 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles

Good finds, I think the tunnel might be based off something else though. The Minesota tunnel has flat walls and it doesn't have the metal bars on the top.

Hello,

15 18th Avenue in Venice Beach : https://goo.gl/maps/xxDaR

U shape, same location, same rooftop, same stairs, same garage, same color in 2008

1518thvenice.jpg

So now, this is the end ?

"This is the end, beautiful friend
This is the end, my only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end..."

Well, no. Do You like The Doors ? I do :

I've noticed that the view from Floyd's living room that nearly the same of Jim morrison had from his rooftop when in lived in Venice Beach in 1965. There he wrote the lyrics of the 2 first albums of The Doors.

Hey koeklin !

Great to see you back. And with another cool find, as usual :)

I must admit I'm not really looking for these things anymore. I'm too obsessed by GTA Online

Anyway, I updated the interactive map with your find :)

As you can see, I check this topic quite often so if you stumble onto a new find, don't hesitate to share it ;)

Wayne and I are in an awesome crew so we keep contact ;)

Awesome Doors references. I found a house in the venice canals thats the same as one in real life ill try to upload. I was in LA a few months ago and stayed in Venice for a portion of the trip and was comparing the areas from real life and the game the other day. I completely fell in love with Venice and the canals.

I literally just found this thread (I browse the online section). Your work is amazing!

There's still a lot of houses in Paleto that need to be found, however. I'll take a look.

Nice. always good to have new people to help with the search.

I spent the evening looking for houses in the Venice area but no match so far.

It's becoming harder and harder to find new buildings.

Nice contribution ZHPbim.

The first two have already been found but the last one is new.

And it's a great one. I added it to the interactive map :)

I keep saying it but I'll say it again: This thread is amazing. You can't not appreciate all the work Rockstar put into this map and it's a lot more accurate than people make it seem. Thank you to all the contributors!

Edit : I notice this building is near the Rimm_Paint_Factory in game and IRL.

I have identified this house on the bluffs just south of Devin Weston's Villa.

98CDC642B1C247DDA1CE54BD164EDF527C285F00

It is the Arts & Architecture Case Study House for 1953, designed by Craig Ellwood and located at 1811 Bell Air Rd, Los Angeles. It is sometimes referenced as Case Study House 16 in places, but that is actually a different house in Bel Air that no longer exists.
