Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

I wonder if anyone is going to get images of when they're switching characters and build up a really extremely detailed map at the closest zoom level.

Maybe the next community thread

Yup, thought of that, too. Even the in-game map at highest resolution would be a good thing to have.

Bigger goals would be something like this, or even this (drop orange ped for streetview).

Hey guys !

In order to keep this community working together, I created a crew dedicated to the mappers of this topic.

Feel free to join anytime and share your ideas for whatever you think this crew should be.

I joined (PretendWereDead) your crew.

I followed this topic from the first day on and, although I didn't add much, I really enjoyed reading it and it shortened the waiting time for me. Big thank you for all the mappers!

Hey all... I also want to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread! Especially Fido, of course, not just for his mapping skills, but also for setting the tone here. It was great fun to do this, and given the > 20,000 posts and > 4,000,000 views, I think it was really worth it.

If I had to pick the single greatest achievement -- which is almost impossible, since so many people have made fantastic contributions -- then I guess that would still be GTAKiwi's first map, posted on November 20, 2012 (!!)

Considering the small amount of information you guys had to work with at the time, I'd say it was one of the best achievements as well.

It gave us the rough layout that proved to be correct.

Anyway, my last contribution before I play the game. Less than 6 hours to go now :panic::panic::panic::panic::panic::panic::panic::panic:

Not sure if these have been found yet, or if they are something else entirely. Had a quick look but couldn't find anything about it.

Might be the clock tower & tall FOX sign at the Westwood Village on Weyburn Ave.

The real life location fits with the in-game location.

No, this topic is not dead!

Absolutely not ;) From what I've seen, there are lots of prominent (=identifiable) buildings in LS that were not in any trailer or screenshot.

The game is f*cking awesome guys. :^::^::^::^::^:

The map is huge & beautiful. There are lots of buildings & little places we haven't seen yet.

Plenty of things still to identify. Gonna keep playing for a few days.

You're in for a treat.

Cheers.

Ok now we wait for GTA VI... :p

Seriously guys I have been following this thread since the beginning.

The leaks, the fakes, your speculations and calculations I've seen it all.

Seriously the best thread on this forum.

I have the game too.

I played for an hour this evening and it was way beyond my expectations.

The map is massive.

I tried to drive around it and I can assure you that it takes at least 15min

to circle the map.

The game world is much more detailed ghan what we were expecting.

There are tons of buildings left to identify.

And Wayny, I can confirm that you're right about the two buildings

you found earlier today near the golf course.

But many many more buildings left to find. This thread is far from over.

I went to Malibu and I was stunned by the number of beach houses.

And I'm pretty sure most of them are based on real ones.

It is truly amazing.

Best GTA for me, no doubt about it.

It has far exceeded my expectations as well. The world is probably twice as big as I expected. The scale is massive.

I took a jet ski around the coastline. I just hugged the coast about 20 to 30 metres from shore. It took 27 minutes to go around. Found a large cave & several inlets & coves.

Like you said, there are tonnes of houses & buildings to still to be identified.

What amazed me was all the little farms & truck-stops & beaches & random buildings that we had no idea even existed. Around nearly every hill or corner, there was another surprise.

Even though we pretty much know the map, I've still manage to get lost or disorientated a few times.

While the car wash sign looks like Imperial Car Wash from Inglewood upon further inspection the building actually looks like Mission Car Wash in San Fernando Valley (best pic I could find, sorry). CarWash11.jpg

I also spotted the Los Angeles Theater in some other gameplay.

This one is on Pico boulevard. Maybe we can find another car wash in the same style...

f*cking gutted this thread is over...for the last 2 years (since day 1) I have checked this page everyday and it has become part of my daily routine.

Like to thank all contributors fido, wayne and zombie obviously, as well as all the other people who have contributed in any way (except f*cking kindled). It's been a blast!!

Btw my map was the blueprint with catalina island that went viral... was pretty funny to see people coming here and saying "is this the real map?!" So thanks for the laughs and entertainment and hope everyone here enjoys the game we've all put two years worth of time into already!!!

The amount of topics the mods had to delete with your map.. haha!

It was (is) a nice map! :)

I have been following this thread two years (and 7-8 months with an account) i will miss it. This was the best thread in the forums. Now it's time lo leave. We pass good times, identifying since the first trailer, and with every video and screen until today. A too enjoyable thread in a forum is hard to find. All the great work you do, the good times when we hyped... it's time to go.

GOODBYE TO ALL THE MAPPERS, ESPECIALLY TO YOU, FIDO. :)

Now that it's here, could we see Fido's first map? There's one on his Flickr that's dated 'Before July 2012', but I'm not entirely sure it's his first one.

I've got one from November 14, 2011. This is where it all began.

On another note, Union Station is not in. I rolled by where we all thought it was and there was just a Spanish-looking house.

That car wash from Pico Blvd is a clone of the Imperial Car Wash yes (albeit better preserved) but the one in San Fernando Valley I posted is different. The car wash in the game features curved panels for the signage of the big letters on the side of the building like the one in San Fernando Valley. here's a video of it

But maybe it has a twin like that other car wash.
