It's so hard not to study the map. I originally told myself I would only glance at it, but now that it's here I can't control myself...

I know how you feel. I can't stop looking at it, trying to spot where different locations are and how to navigate from one spot to another.

You can see the scrap yard just under that aerial view of the plane you added to the map.

The cars in the screenshot would be almost directly under the plane, and the camera looking South West.

Alright mappers, like mentioned multiple times, and like I also said yesterday before seeing the map, brilliant job guys. You pretty much nailed it before being leaked.

 

By the way, there's been a discussion in this thread about a possible 4th runway that isn't marked like the airbases we've seen in the map - A small dirt one in Grapeseed, with a property icon near it. Seems likely to me and to other users that this possibly serves as an airstrip for some light airplanes, particularly the Cropduster, which would make sense in a rural area. Is there anything that confirms this, like a screenshot or a trailer scene or something? Or is it just a random straight and, in comparison to the surrounding roads, thick dirt path in the middle of the countryside?

Well mate there is an acheivement that relates to this runway, in that you have to buy the

McKenzie Field Hangar which is obviously a business and win the Arms Race

. This means that since the purchasable property icon isn't anywhere near any of the 3 other airfields then this must be it.

 

This would also mean that people worrying about no house/s to buy in Malibu, shouldn't have to worry as that would point to the icons be businesses.

USLA

on the map?

 

Think a lot of people are forgetting these maps are like the ones in GTA IV strategy guide, they don't list every detail because it would simply be too much detail.

 

They list major roads, facilities, etc. compared it to the GTA IV maps it makes sense.

 

USLA is in, confirmed ages ago.

Or David Palmer and Allison Taylor from 24.

 

Two US presidents in the series, Palmer in Series 1 has an assassination attempt in a power station.

 

Also 24 is set in Los Angeles mainly, (Bauer lives there).

Are you talking about the grey shape going into the Reservoir? I'm not sure what it is to be honest,or the area next to Route 13 sign?

Agreed, I think it's a pipe or narrow channel as well.

One more (unscientific) attempt to estimate the time it takes to drive around the map (previous one here).

 

Of course, my method of measuring is not very accurate, and the distances may be somewhat underestimated (paths between points are not straight lines, slight changes in altitude, etc). So this is really just a rough estimate.

 

 

Full circle: 257 * 100 m = 25.7 km ... lets make that 26 km

 

Alamo Sea circle: 145 * 50 m = 7.25 km ... lets make that 7.5 km

 

 

Driving around the full map at an average speed of 100 mph (161 kmh):

 

9 min 40 sec ... lets say between 9 and 10 minutes

 

 

Driving around the Alamo Sea at an average speed of 50 mph (80.5 kmh):

 

5 min 35 sec ... lets say between 5 and 6 minutes

One thing to note is 115 Bay City Avenue, described as overlooking the marina.

 

Someone reckoned the helipad and bar was only for sale down there, so in the marina area I see no property.

 

Either way I don't care this game is the most ambitious GTA ever, biggest list of features in a GTA game.

I don't think the icons on the map are the last word with regards to buyable properties. They may be incomplete, refer to garages, businesses, or whatever. Not all of the icons (like, for example, many of the parachute locations) make sense. Remember that, as zombie elvis has pointed out, even the official blueprint map (as depicted by R*) has all subway lines and tunnels off by about 1/3 of a kilometer. So this guide doesn't have to be 100% correct or complete either.
