I just noticed that small place called Chumash, which is pretty cool because Chumash were a Native American tribe who lived on the coasts of southern california

does everybody realise those $ icons represent buyable businesses? Savehouses are not indicated on this map

Yeah I was pretty dissapointed that you can't buy a house in Malibu, but then I saw that you can buy the Los Santos Airport...They will be businesses, not houses. Hope for a Malibu and VInewood one :D

I'm sure there'll be some houses. I mean, where else would we go to save?

That map only shows properties you can buy. It doesn't, for example, show the properties Michael, Franklin and Trevor begin the game with. Perhaps you will acquire additional properties for free near these locations during the single player missions?

I'm guessing that houses can only be bought using the internet.

What do people think these are:

I guess this is the bounty hunting cabin we see in the gameplay trailer? Mainly because of it's location.

3_zps21c90447.png

The one on the left, maybe an off-road cycle race?

EDIT!!! HUNTING

5_zps18d21c35.png

The lefthand blue running man seems to be the Triathalon. But the one in the upper right is a different colour?

6_zps335627cb.png

And lastly, the top one seems to be a yoga. I bet it's the picture below!!!

Grove Street?

i think its directly underneath the SANTOS in south los santos. there is a street which seems to have 4 allyways coming off it.

If you look between the H & L where South Los Santos is written, look down & you'll see a purple house icon with a $. The street that the icon is on leads to a dead end... I think that is "Grove St."

Grove St. is a location from GTA SA. It doesn't have to be in GTA V.

There is one spot that has a vaguely similar feel, see below. It's in the red circle.

6aFq7qF.jpg

Im almost sure Grove Street is a bit more to the West just above the stadium where there is the save house, it at exactly at the same spot as Grove Street in GTA SA

I think fido's map has much more personality and a much more interesting coastline.

Hopefully Rockstar hires 'em for GTA6.

Calculated the (2D) size of the landmass area:

Based on your 1km=255pixels ratio I overlapped the GTA SA map for better comparison.

v8vf.jpg

according to this, can we say that the new los santos is big as the old los santos' island? if this is true, it's incredible.

I must say, at first I thought you guys were a bunch of bored nerds with nothing better to do, but now that I see just how close you got to the actual map I'm blown away!

You did a fantastic job guys!

I mean technically they were just a bunch of bored nerds with nothing to do, but why does that have to be a bad thing?

I think you people would be surprised to see how many of the dedicated mappers in here are actually adults with a pretty interesting live. Just because they like freeroaming games, and like to contribute in community projects, does not mean that they (we  ) are geaky little teens with nothing on our hands. If I look at the decent work of some of the wellknown people, I wouldn't be surprised if they had some sort of scientific degree. I know I do ...

I want to add my thanks to the mappers too. As someone who has read each and every post on this thread, I have been so impressed with the skill, dedication and verve that the mappers have put into this effort.*

Well done. And thanks for helping me pass this long wait for GTA V.

*NB. This vote of appreciation doesn't extend to the idiots and trolls who occasionally hijacked the thread with their bogus, unsubstantiated claims and/or conspiracy theories. We all know who they are.

Pretty much sums up how I feel about the last 1.5 years. :^:

It probably has been already posted but:

CybzA1r.gif

That .gif is something I can't stop looking at. It's perfect for shoving it in the whiney faces. QFT!

How the hell did they keep grapeseed and fort zancudo under wraps, both are huge.

I remember a screen with someone on a motobike coming out of a tunnel with a radar tower on top, FORT ZANCUDO????? i could be way off though

Grapeseed was seen and mapped for quite a while now. I don't think the official map released had anything new in that area. Also, the position and orientation of the military base was pretty much accurate, but we didn't have any real visual evidence.

Hi guys, i made a pic/comparison so it puts it more in perspective. First you see the vinewood sign until the fort, then, look at the total map and see the distance from vinewood>fort

Not too much to me...

It's not the fort (that's at the western shore), it's the prison.

so I created a topic but didnt get an answer

Is the norther river named yet ?

Old maps shown a 3river from Alamo going East, the new one is missing it :( to bad.

Also there is a small small river from zancudo going south.

The river from LS is cool, probably named LS river.

Not sure about the name, but if you zoom in really close, you'll see "... Canyon" right above the river. Can't make out the first word, unfortunately.

EDIT: Platon Canyon? Really not sure.

Also, I love the multiquote. I'm starting to get used to the new layout.

HI

I didn't help at all with your map but I just came in here to say what an amazing and accurate job you guys did.

Side by side, there's hardly any difference.

Chinese Takeout

Some people, when we were scrutinizing the shot of planes racing down the western slope of Chiliad, speculated that "North Yankton" was at the base of that slope.

Between "Paleto Forest" & "Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness" is a location whose description is hard to make out. So, out of boredom and curiosity I tried one of the tactics we used when viewing the blurry road signs (reverse-blurrification?):

1. I added the text "Yankton" (Arial, bold)

2. blurred it

3. adjusted opacity to match source map

4. Does it match???
8az.gif

I think this is also the location of the Franklin shootout in the gameplay trailer? Could this location be referred to as "Yankton"? Either way, I have no idea what the other word below it is..."city"?

Edit: of course "city" doesn't make sense...I just don't know what else it could be. "Park"? "Trail"?

I doubt it reads Yankton. If it does, why doesn't it read North Yankton? I also don't see how the second word could be city considering that area is even too small to be a village.

North Yankton renamed North Chumash?

Chumash is based off of Malibu.

Fort Zancudo is based off of Ventura County Naval Base.

What is North Chumash based on?

I guess no one noticed that Los Santos County---Blaine County border along route 68? Los Santos is bigger when you include all that "green"!

The size and emptiness of that map. I seriously hope Rockstar are hiding something because that looks pathetic, Los Santos looks smaller than Liberty City and there's only 3 little small towns. No wonder you didn't show the map R*, you must be ashamed.

If you open your eyes and zoom in you see many other side roads...and look at how large those towns are? They look pretty decent size, Would of been nice to have atleast one more but oh well no big deal...Go into Los Santos City size and you will see how large the city actually is. (If you count the suburbs on the outskirts of the city, Los santos is about 15% larger than Liberty City)
Face it bro..we just saw it..the map is small af..No way in hell is it the size they explained..its about 1 1/2 size of red dead

Don't buy the game then... Get your money back for your pre-order... go on.. Oh wait no? Thought so.

i made some roughly masuraments over mysore's comparasion map between V's and san andreas' maps. if there is no mistake, the city is huge. it is bigger than the old los santos' island. it's bigger than i thought.

First of all - extraordinary job, mapping dudes. Seriously.

Quick question then (and apologies if this has been covered - but, y'know, 806 pages!!). What is the large complex on the East Coast, basically due east of Sandy Shores and just south of the Mountain Range label?

It's a bit blurry on my map, but it looks like the final word is 'research'. Is this something that's cropped up in your analysis so far? Or still a mystery?

Cheers buddy.

If anything that shot from a distance makes it seem even more mysterious. Naval research lab? Big Pharma Research lab? Evil villain's lair??

It's going to be so much fun exploring this map that I may never get to any missions!!
