Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

Sorry but you are wrong. The black line doesn't read 5,000 feet but 3,000 feet considering the longer line reads 1,000 meters at max. If you take 5,000 feet as the number it is actually over 1,500 meters and that makes your estimate 50 % bigger than the actual number.

It's just about a third of that. The end of the black bar reads 3000 ft, and the other end is not on the image. All you can say is that 1000 ft are about 77 px.

 

If my old estimate (27.7 km) was accurate, the new estimate would have to be about 22.7 km. That would be around 8 min 30 sec for a round-trip at 100 mph.

GTA San Andreas wasnt that big at all, it did feel like it in past but just put 10x draw distance mod and fly around with hydra, i was doing it, and i can tell you that map isnt that big, it takes 20 seconds to get from LS to LV with a car. Now about RDR, it did seem big because it was land blocked, but playable area wasnt that big at all, just do a flying glitch and you'll see it.

Another thing I've just noticed that makes a lot of sense to me at least.

 

This must confirm that the purchasable house properties icons, are infact the business properties you can buy.

 

The

McKenzie hangar

is not located on any airfield, but people reckon there is a grass runway at Grapeseed for the cropduster, it makes sense. Well there is purchasble property icon on the edge of that grass strip.

 

So this basically confirms the icons are not houses, but are property

 

any thoughts guys?

 

EDIT: Okay it's actually called the

McKenzie Field hangar

, which might suggest my theory is off as its not really an airfield. However if that's true, where the hell is the icon for the purchase? I still think the icons are not correctly guessed by people, and they are stores to rob. Not places to buy to live in/ or use as businesses.

Granted, the map isn't bigger than Panau in Just Cause 2, but it's bigger than Liberty City which was massive in my opinion. And the guys that did the hands on from IGN said it took a real-time hour to drive around the map's edges. That's driving. At 70mph/120kph or more.

Goal was never to make map bigger than JC2, but who cares? JC2 was all felt empty and less detailed, didnt have many things to do. GTA V will be at least bigger than GTA SA, GTA 4 and RDR, and thats whats important.

Well guys, everything comes to an end and for me that time is right now. It was a lot of fun and we discovered some very nice things, but with this 'real map' being shown it's time for me to stop reading this thread.

But really, thanks for all the good posts and the fun reading them! Special thanks to fido, wayne and zombie..... Ok then, and even to kindled for his stupid reactions, they were really fun to read! Have some good fun playing the game!!

Not Grove Street. That's Marina Del Ray and that would be hotels that you're pointing out.

Grove St. is a location from GTA SA. It doesn't have to be in GTA V.

 

There is one spot that has a vaguely similar feel, see below. It's in the red circle.

Is the norther river named yet ?

 

Old maps shown a 3river from Alamo going East, the new one is missing it to bad.

 

Also there is a small small river from zancudo going south.

 

The river from LS is cool, probably named LS river.

I was expecting more development on the most North Eastern part of the map.

 

I don't know why they'd make a map designed to cater to planes, but have the northernmost airstrip be 2/3 up the map.

 

 

Really wish there was a town with an airstrip on the top of the map.

People worried about the size of the game, and things take a look at all the property in Vinewood Hills.

 

Sorry if the image is big, shouldn't be more than 1024 x 800 I think, uploaded off a tablet.

 

Compared to Richman in GTA SA. Essentially the same area as in SA its so small compared to the vast area in GTA V.
