The centerpiece of the district is a 54-story, 1,001 room two-hotel hybrid tower, constructed above the parking lot directly north of the Staples Center.[2] Built by Webcor Builders, the skyscraper contains both an 879-room JW Marriott hotel on floors four through 21 and a 123-room Ritz-Carlton hotel on floors 22 through 26. Floors 27 through 52 hold 224 Residences at the Ritz Carlton condominiums.[10] Groundbreaking for the structure took place in June 2007.[10] The project was completed in the first quarter of 2010.

 

Maybe r* got the reference before 2010....

It looks quite similar, good job at finding it! I just hope that the tower gets completed by the end of the game because it is a HUGE eyesore!

That's called "The Walk of Fame", It's near the Graumans Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

So L.S from the trailer doesn't seem to be too big. There must be other big city. I think interstate 5 goes south through

this bridge on the docks and it leads to countryside and another city, maybe San Diego. No way that the "biggest and most ambitious game

rockstar's ever released" will only have one city and countryside. The new Los Santos doesn't seem to be much bigger than SA version.

Yeah after reading this thread, along with several others, I think people have overrated how big L.S. will be. It doesn't seem to be very big if you look at the locations of famous landmarks and how close they are to each other. Therefore, I think we can conclude that there will either be a gigantic countryside (unlikely) or just a big countryside (but not enormous) with one or two other cities, probably SF and LV.

This building where it says BANK is based on real life building of U.S. Bank Tower in Los Angeles, California

Not that it means too much with what I'll say later, but it's not on the correct side to be that building.

It's not that near the bank irl...but that could easily be R* taking creative license.

 

 

This is the idea behind the mile high club tower

 

 

Good find! I wouldn't be surprised if there's some inspiration from that building. Sort of a merger of the 2 ideas...

 

sidenote: I really like the design of the irl ritz best....that's one cool looking building...

Thats what I keep telling people. IMO if SF was made it would suck badly, trust me I've been to San Francisco, nothing special. It's the gay capital of the world... universe! and Las Vegas is just about losing money not making it.

 

Los Angeles just has that thing about it everybody loves. Like the guy in the trailer said, "That thing, that magic."

Hello there !

 

Following the brilliant idea about SkyscraperCity, I decided to open a topic over there to ask for help from the specialists.

Also, good find about the Staples Center. I actually hadn't thought about it since in real life, it is located to the south of Downtown.

This structure in LS seems to be at the north/north west of Downtown. But I believe it may very well be a Staples Center lookalike.

Here's a pic I tried to enhance to see it better:

Probably not quite what you had in mind, but I've been going through and adding pictures, like the ones Gifbrah and Fido have been making, to the Map.

Someone wanted to use the blimp as a central reference point but the problem is that it could be moving. One thing is for sure its always going to be facing the same direction which is south towards the coastline so it can be used.

 

Ive tried working out hopefully West and East coords. Mountains are in the north similar to real world California topography obviously.

 

 

 

 

Theres seems to be a lot of mountain ranges in the north and south directions which is odd becuase the south is where pleasure pier is. Is whole of Los Santos surrounded mostly by hills except for coast?

 

 

 

Well thats all I can do for now may try and make a mock up map tomorrow as for now, really tired.

 

One thing Ive realised doing this is that its not easy I have a new found respect for you guys. Keep up the good work.

THAT would be awesome, but I m sure the game map won't be as big as in the pic. If you compare how near Hollywood is located to Downtown in V (and compare the distance in real). It's nearly next to Downtown - too near.

I remember the mapping efforts for GTA IV on these forums after its first teaser trailer and folks extrapolated some pretty accurate maps just from that short trailer. It was loads of fun, perhaps rename this topic? To something like "Mapping Los Santos"?
