Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

We cant discuss leaks here because the forum respects Rockstars wishes.  Rockstar told us not to discuss leaks here and to remove them.  Posting screencaps of leaks and discussing what is in the leaked videos goes against what Rockstar asked of us.  If you don't like it, you can find another forum or discuss any leaks in PM.

I get it, but what rights does Rockstar have over this page? It doesn't belong to them, and thus they shouldn't have any power over it. PLUS those leaks were entirely their fault. Spoilers are a problem, but that's what the Spoiler section was for - before it was deleted.

They don't have any rights over this forum, but they specifically asked/requested the forum bosses not to allow posts that show or discuss anything about the leaks.

Since I seem to be the only one who noticed the screenshots on Friday and is still interested in mapping, this is something I posted and was curious about what Fido and some others thought (Wayne Kerr's already commented on it).

 

A few days ago I posted evidence of where Puerta Del Sol was and somewhat other things, like Olympic Fwy and La Puerta Fwy, mostly revolving around this image.

I also noticed that the similarities between this shot and the scene in the second trailer where Jimmy is hanging off the sailboat was where this Fwy would eventually lead (on likely the La Puerta Fwy), such as highway signs on the lower off/on ramp each being visible in both shots, the one poled highway sign that leads to the higher off ramp, the crane just in front of the off ramp, and the bush/tree around the probable parking garage with a incline.

I suggested that this had to mean that the Marina Del Rey area had to be Puerta Del Sol, that the area just NE of the LSX was La Puerta, and that the LS Forum was likely called Maze Bank Arena. Most of this was reasonable speculation.

seem to corroborate my thoughts.

You can clearly see the same inclined parking garage by a crane and before a off/on ramp just before the airport and this is suggest that this is just around where Vespucci ends and the Marina Del Rey area starts. If we are following the same rules as we have with the Paleto Bay sign and as I have argued with the W. El©lispe Blvd., then if a southward sign that starts with Vespucci should lead right to a Puerta Del Sol then a La Puerta and finally to a Maze Bank Arena.

Interestingly, Olympic Fwy is almost certainly the Fwy just south of Downtown and north of the Hood as you can see in the first trailer the drive towards the La Puerta Fwy (at :31) the same construction job (red pillars, seen later south of inclined Parking Garage, kind of like the Mile High Club's slow development) just right of the off/on ramp that you see in a three images above.

From four different sides I have placed the off/on ramp visible in all the shots and scenes and attributed a high certainty to what the Marina Del Rey, North LSX area, and LS Forum are all called and what two of the major Highways are (the 5 is La Puerta and goes from west of Downtown south to who knows where and Olympic). In addition I can place exactly where a few of the screenshots are taken from.

If we can't talk about the new locations that have been spotted....then this entire thread should be closed. You guys can't work on mapping it if you can't grab those images and use them here. Or even talk about them....

Official images can continue to be used. We'll just have to wait until more are released.

It all boils down to utility though. The mapping thread is inherently of limited use to those who want the most accurate update of the map (the main target of this thread) if they are handicapped in what resources they can use. It's been a good run full of excellent work. But out of respect for R*'s content I think it's safe to expect things to go down hill from here. I'm sure more accurate maps will emerge in the coming days elsewhere.

The whole point of this thread is to collaborate and see how accurate the community can map the GTAV area. You COULD use the leaked stuff, but that would be cheating. These people have come a long way by only using media officially released by R*. It's very impressive. Using the leaked images would take the fun out of the project.

Lol It's so hilarious how the mods act like they are Sergeants and some government secrets are being discussed here and if you speak about it, you get the death sentence. Ridiculous. I understand that Rockstar isn't happy about the leaks, but don't say you took them down out of respect, you took them down to cover your a** from a lawsuit. Just say things how they are instead of sugarcoating it with the whole perspective of "I'm an a** kissing, Rockstar brown noser forum leader" crap. Leader of a forum that has slowly gone downhill and now into monastery mode? Where you not only have to watch your language, but also watch carefully what you discuss or ask? Lol "Forum leader". I hope they pay you good, if you even get any pay. Keep policing the forums, later on you might get promoted to Forum Deputy Inspector, or maybe Forum Detective if you spot enough spoilers.

It will end on the 17th September when we see how close the real map is to the fan made ones.

I just wanted to give my comment regarding the leak and "spoilers".

I just watched all 50 videos of the leaked TV shows, and know what, there are no spoilers, except for one, which is basically not a spoiler at all, as this is just some random entrepreneur in question.

Anyhow, I don't know why so much fuss about these TV shows when most people don't watch them at all. I just recently watched some TV in GTA TBoGT, so I don't see how it is troubling for people playing the game.

On the other hand, R* could've simply released some of these videos themselves, and increase the public liking for the game.

I hope the game doesn't become playable (that they haven't included the important files in the package) before 17 September, and that people don't leak story spoilers.

As for TV shows, music and location names, I really don't see why everyone is so serious.

If there was an overall agreement that what you see below (old screenshots + new context) constitutes original research in the spirit of the Mapping Los Santos thread, as opposed to leaks, spoilers, etc. (please think before you make a judgement, and if in doubt, please don't make one at all), then it should be relatively easy to produce an album that would help us improve our understanding of the map, at least with regards to some details.
