Is there a military base somewhere on the map or not?

This is a size comparison based on the size of Los Santos. (Please study that link if you are not familiar with it.)

 

All maps in this image are to the same scale.  The green area in context is exactly 20 square miles, including interior waterways not shown.  Allowing for error due to the low resolution of the achievement icon, and small islands omitted, the GTAV map landmass is virtually equal to the sum of landmass area of GTA San Andreas, GTA IV, and the playable (in boundaries) land area of Red Dead Redemption. In the oft-quoted description of GTAV's size as the sum of those worlds plus room to spare, room to spare is literally the rooms inside the map:  interiors, underground, and underwater area.

Landmass areas of other maps:

RDR 5.75 sq mi in boundaries

GTAIV 3.31 square miles

GTASA 11.29 sq mi

Total 20.35 square miles.

New update following the achievement leak :

 

 

 

- I changed the shape around the Alamo River (forgot to put the name back) and on the East coast.

- Added the Banana Republic building found yesterday.

I preferred it when it had a never ending desert.

That is so amazing Fido, and when R* shows us North Yankton and whatever they put on the West Coast, it will be done, with all of the intricate details for us to explore on Sept. 17th and not a moment sooner. I can't wait.

It seems there is a military base just north of the Zancudo River, near the ocean.

It was glipsed in a plane scene in Trevor's character trailer.

Game Informer and CVG and other gaming sites said they saw a military base of some kind to the West of the map.

 

So far, visual evidence include a shot of some kind of control tower in Trevor's trailer

and a radar antenna in the online trailer.

So we now know the shape of the map and 80% of the locations.

 

Have we still not seen anything of the coast, south east and up to the middle (east)?

 

I know we have seen shots of that Light house and the mountains in the North East. Plus shot of the south of the city.

That is still quite a nice slice of land.

 

Plus we have not seen the military base on the West (we know where it is - but no layout) - Could it actually be a base situated with a small town - it could at least have some houses and shops like some bigger bases have.

 

Still seems like a lot to discover - Maybe they will hold back these areas until the game comes out.

Why does your map have two theaters (Vinewood Bowl and Greek Theater)? Isn't that supposed to be the same building?

Awesome! Los Santos is the same size of Red County!

Hi guys, I've been working in the garage scene from the gameplay trailer (01:49), trying to map it with the minimap pictures.

Here is what I got after an small "make-up", it's north faced:

I've tried to match the minimap with some streets in fido's map but I've not found any coincidence. Because of the main street pointing almost north - northeast I think it must be in the northeast quadrant of Los Santos.

In the minimap appears a race flag icon also (in fact 2 of them), and after taking the car, the trailer continues with the same car involved in a race near US bank building, facing south and after 22 seconds of lap start (the starting point).

 

Of course, race start and garage are not the same, but as the minimap shows a race start at north - northwest, it could give us some clues.

 

What do you think?? Any idea??

So LS is less than 1/5 of the map, and people were complaining it was too small. To those people - Eat sh*t. Well done everyone working on the mapping, on every GTA fansite, they all turned out to be very accurate.
