It's a shrunken-down Los Angeles metro area/surrounding area, about the size of San Francisco. I've seen a screenshot from the Griffith Observatory and DTLA is about where LA Community College would be located.

So, just a bit of observation that I spent the night looking at and can't properly explain, but the place where Trevor takes off from in the second trailer has to have the Tatavian Mountains to the left and the Vinewood hills to the right. I also am nearly 100% sure that the buildings on the left in the shot are the prison. While there is nothing definitive out there this is how I observe it. I've looked at the other possibilities that have merit, like it being silos in Grapeseed or (an old thought of mine) it being south of Los Santos looking at the city. Neither make sense to me, but i could be wrong. I just feel that I'd rather go with instinct brought on by long observation of all the images the related areas and potential areas. If anyone cares and has the tools to argue for another spot please do.

The Vinewood Hills and Tataviam Mountains are out of shot to the right.

The mountains in the background are Mt Flat, Mt Rough and Mt Pointy, according to the names given by lxr.

The plane is going toward the west.

So I believe that those structures in the background are located in Grapeseed.

And since Grapeseed is the Industrial heart of the Alamo Sea, I'm guessing those are industrial silos or some kind of factory.

Maybe an oil refinery ?

Yes i'm all right with that, the back mountains, the location with regard to the aerodrome, seems to be in that direction, and not found any other places that seems like this.

 

And like i said there is no pictures with this place the only pics in that direction there is alaways fog in front of.

Yeah it seems to be South grapeseed, not sure what the buildings are though. The built up area on my map was a bit too far south.

Yeah it seems to be South grapeseed, not sure what the buildings are though. The built up area on my map was a bit too far south.

I think this is maybe silos or a factory because in the card of grapeseed there is "The Industrial heart of alamo sea"

The more I look at these pictures - the more I think that the map could be wider than it is tall.

 

Maybe the close-up city view is on the back of the map is in a different orientation to the main map.

 

So the city close-up is Portrait orientation . But The main map is Landscape Orientation.

 

The city is in shot with the skydiving as well as the Alamo sea - The Alamo sea is not that wide (longer than wide) then we get

Chiliad with the town the other side.

 

It just seems that the Alamo with rivers running out of each end - and mountain ranges at each end would have to be wider than this.

Unless the Alamo is slightly twisted anticlockwise compared to the lower part of the map - meaning the rivers don't run exactly west and east

 

I am probably just getting my brain in a twist but I cant stop thinking this after looking at these shots.

Interesting! That looks possible.

That even looks like an exact match to the buildings in the screen.

Just killing time until the multiplayer trailer comes out.

 

 

All of the foreground features were highlighted straight from the image, so there are a few roads that aren't on Fido's map yet. (lift your game mate )

Most of the roads & features around the airstrip, prison & Sandy Shores were taken from Fido's map.

Some of the minor roads at the top centre of the image could be contour lines from the hills, but most of them are actual roads. It was quite hard to distinguish between the two.

 

Edit. The freeway is in yellow.

Good job, i have marked the montains in the back, the désert seems to be smaller than expected (on the map).

I can't find any railroad connection between Blaine County and Los Santos. I'm starting to doubt there is one, and the chance there's one east and one west is very small as I see it.

Why wouldn't there be a connection? If Fido's map is correct you are not seeing the connection because some parts of the map haven't been shown. With Fido having accounted for a part of the railroad to the east of Los Santos it is likely that it will connect with the city.

Yeah, it's a one of those high voltage power line pylons, like these.

 

 

There are lots of them in the wind farm area which is not far from the airstrip in your image.

We've also seen them behind Mt Chiliad & the industrial area (East) of Los Santos etc.
