Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

I know this is way Off topic, and no one has recently brought this up. But I would just like to share a video with some of the doubters about the size.

. This just shows that draw distance makes a nice difference and can make a game feel smaller than it really is. Maybe this can show how misleading a screenshot is with massive draw distance.

OT: Everyone keep up the great work! I would love to help, but it would be rather difficult on a phone.

What if the shark is in front of Paleto or anywhere off to the side? Hmm? What if one of the settlements to Paleto Bay's west is an inlet named Paleto Cove or if the restaurant Paleto Cove is not directly in front of Mt. Chiliad and that outline of land is...the island, the one, single island that contains two main regions - Los Santos and Blaine County? Then there's no new land to the north of Paleto Bay and a placard with a cartoon shark is not a hint of anything further.

BUT...what if it's not...?

Paleto Cove is probably a restaurant based on the fact it is a shark eating a burger. So with that already not having any basis in reality then I don't see why the rest of the card does. Not to mention that whenever people try to map what amounts to nothing more but theories of more land or another city, it is always positioned as being on the northeastern side of the map. It seems that part of the map is very attractive to theorists.

I don't necessarily agree with either argument, but I think you'd have to admit that brochures like the ones on the website are a bit different to downloadable artworks and wallpapers etc. They are actually 'tourist' brochures so I'd be surprised if most of those locations weren't in the game.

With the 'inaccurate art' theory, you could also say that means snow won't exist, pala springs won't be in game, and that hiking bit of Chiliad won't either. Obviously that's not necessarily all true, but I think the Paleto Cove extra bit of land theory deserves a little more credit.Especially when people are losing their sh*t over the fact snow is 'confirmed', and avidly trying to work out where pala springs will be.

If the brochures were enough to confirm snow, surely they're enough to open up the possibility of more land.

BTW: I'm not for or against either argument, I just think it's in fairness..

Me too, i think i was the first one to say that extra bit of land was there a few pages ago, but i'm not sayin: it's there, no doubt, all shut up, if you can prove either it is there or it isn't, i'm happy with both. I'm just saying that the artwork of the beach of los santos wasn't right because the pier and downtown weren't in line with each other to the north, but both locations existed, although not on the same place as on the artwork. That was why I maybe thought that the mountains to the right of the shark may exist somewhere on the map, and I haven't seen them in other sreens / artworks.

But enough of that on this thread, if you want more information about it, go to the multiple city thread ( don't know why it was placed there) .

Although i have to admit i don't like the hate reactions

Im going to agree with the last few statements.....it seems like everyone is ganging up on othrrs for their own ideas. Yes i agree some are stupid but you guys are chosing to say some pamplets are accurate and others arent. Fact is a lot of you guys worked very hard on this site and myself and many others appreciate all the time and effort that has gone into these maps. But with that being said there is obviously stuff that ids being hidden from us wether its by fog, smog, sun mt. Ranges, so for you few that cant except that there might be way more than u think is just plain stupid. I mean just look atthe pic of the blueprint map roled up, they are only showing us like 30%of that thing. A blueprint isnt a perfect square its more rectangualrar almost like a poster. Keep up the good mappin guys and everyone else stop hating on ideas.

Sweet god, the map is sooooo big. Although the city could have been bigger if there were less mountains. confused.gif

Well this topic will reach the 1000 pages, also considering the GTA Online video.

Snow is confirmed because of the North Yankton screenshot - which actually depicts an icy road, snowfall, and snow onthethe side of the road.

The land mass behind the shark is just a backdrop the artist has used. Also, its possibly just advertising a restaurant butmay be also alluding to the fact the waters are shark infested in that area. It looks more like a joke about deadly sharks nearby in the ocean.

This. If you put the San Andreas map with V's draw distance, you could probably see across most of the map from the top of Mt Chiliad.

Edit: Correction, seeing the mods on YouTube you'd probably be able to see the whole thing!

Also, when comparing it to RDR, remember that you're not crossing the map at horse speed!

It's a shrunken-down Los Angeles metro area/surrounding area, about the size of San Francisco. I've seen a screenshot from the Griffith Observatory and DTLA is about where LA Community College would be located.

^^I do think there's a high desert like Lancaster, where the LA County Prison is mocked-up, and a low desert, the Sandy Shores region. Elevation, I'm telling you - the map will seem enormous with all the elevation changes.

When the game comes out, 75% of you will look like idiots because your "predictions" didn't come true. The other 25% of you will have correct guesses but will never return to these forums. These forums could be a great thing if it wasn't for over obsessed virgins walking around with their chest poked out, bragging about sh*t that hasn't even been revealed yet. I mean, I could see if there was a leak out there somewhere, but there's not... So please do us a favor and shut the hell up dudes. Your information may or may not be right. If it is, only like 4 or 5 people will will be back on the forums to pat you on the back and jack you off for the great job you've done guessing correctly... dozingoff.gif

GTA5 is going be huge

Personal Option

Los Santos city itself will be 2x bigger than Liberty City

Downtown Los Santos won't be only as big maybe 6 blocks of high rise buildings, 3-4 blocks of low-mid rise buildings not big or dense high rise like Algonquin GTA4 though

Smaller cities and Towns maybe size of Dukes/Broker in GTA4

Desert, Mountain areas will be huge as heck

underground big area to explore

Farthest points

Farthest North to South on the plane by plane 4-7 mins

Highway 15 mins

Local Street 30 mins

Los Santos Police

If you look at this picture (From the san pedro port), on the other side of the bridge lies long beach. There are some high rise buildings similar to downtown long beach across the st vincent bridge.

Here you are looking towards san pedro port and you can see the st vincent bridge in the background:

Ah you're right.

In that case it must be the two hotels near the airport?

You should check out aerial images of Lancaster Prison, they have a really similar design. If you use Google Street View and travel the east side you can glimpse very similar prison towers.

As for the earlier bay argument here is what the Santa Monica Bay looks like:

user posted image

Bays are surrounded by three sides of land, even if it's two short peninsulas. It doesn't need to be highly enclosed.

And as for the Chianski/Chinaski thing. It could be a mistake or intentional. This is about as conspiracy as I'll get, but it could be that legal injunction or accidental misspelling due to a poor web search (like my earlier one), could be responsible for the difference. Then again I am merely guessing at the only related element I have been able find to that mountain range.
