Jep, the airplane screenshot is going to the mountains, the helicopter to the sea.

 

Also, the highest building on the first screenshot (http://1001uses.com/images/GTAV/Drill_Capture_1280.JPG) looks higher then the new one (http://1001uses.com/images/GTAV/Heli_Screen_1280.jpg).

I noticed that too. Like they changed the proportions of the top of the building. It also looks like part of the top has more taper to it than the other shots, but that could be an effect of the distance.

It is a field of view effect. It makes things in the distance look further away and things on the edge of the screen look squashed. You can use the same effect in GTA IV's movie editor.

I think it might be a combination of distance (real or draw), angle, and smog.

Yeah I think you're right too, was having a hard time trying to picture that because of where the US Bank and Mile High Club were in both the pictures, but after watching the trailer and seeing it in motion it seems to match up. Also as someone else said, it looks like the US Bank building has slightly changed a bit.

The park could also be Hollenbeck Park in East LA, it is placed in a much more accurate place in real life in comparison to the screenshot.

They are 2 different perspectives. I would think, in the helicopter pic, alot of the buildings are beyond the left side of the image.

If you look at the picture you'll see that the helicopter if flying at the same spot as where you see the blimp. I saw it because the building in progress stands in oppisite direction in the pictures.

From these three images, we can clearly see the landscape around LS. I'm not here to say how big it is, i'm just pointing out what sort of sandbox space we can see already from one trailer and one screen shot...

 

Sea line?:

I'm thinking they designed an Echo Park replica but placed it in the location of Hollenbeck Park.

Could be a mashup between the two.

That could be the L.A. Forum.

 

That would mean that the Gateway Cities-Crenshaw area has been "re-imagined" to be much more closer to Downtown than it is in real-life. We can also see the bridge, which would mean that San Pedro is also more closer. I guess the theory that Downtown is more closer to the coast is correct.

 

From this angle though, the city looks small. However, we haven't seen much of the eastern area yet, nor have we seen the northern area (San Fernando and San Gabriel, could be merged into one suburban area as pointed out earlier). The East Los Angeles region hasn't been shown yet, nor has Orange County. Haven't gotten much glimpse on SGV/SFV, nor even Hollywood. The map could be much bigger!
