I just love how I trace over screenshots, build them into a map, and then someone traces over my map again to compare with the screenshots.

Haha yeah, the map/fake/real inception in this thread is a weird thing. Somebody uses screens to make a (onofficial or 'fake') map, this gets posted onto news sites, only to be posted again in the same thread. Then people start to fit in screens on the map, stating 'oh this makes sense'.. Ah well, it's still an awesome map, zombie elvis. Just curious how you came up with the town(?) north of Malibu, west-ish of the militairy airbase.

And whats new on this one? A fake map with the positions mappers allready saw 250 pages ago.

Ah well, it's still an awesome map, zombie elvis. Just curious how you came up with the town(?) north of Malibu, west-ish of the militairy airbase.

That is a total guess I'm afraid, I was thinking something like the main town part of Malibu but I'm going to scale it down and rework the river if I do an update, but not before I've seen the multiplayer trailer.

At 5-F on the blueprint map there appears to be an oval shaped race car track.

It's thought to be a horse race track and casino based on Hollywood Park Race Track.

If the Online trailer is straight gameplay, its likely we might see the actual map. Hopefully we don't, I want to see how close this thread can get to the actual map.

I'm really hoping for at least an outline. Man, the map's one of my favorite things about GTA!

I don't think anything big about the map would be revealed.

For sure tidbits like from the other trailers, but I wouldn't expect things like a full outline, totally new area of the map etc.

@williamhotel : Man what you have done is amazing !

Your 3D map is really awesome and it takes the mapping to an all new level.

This is the next step in mapping a game like we're doing since November '11.

I would have done something like this but unfortunately I don't have the skills nor the right PC to do it.

 

Couple of questions :

- Did you model all of those buildings yourself? Or did you pick some on the Sketchup Warehouse?

- I noticed you put several buildings in your 3D map that we don't have identified yet (the church in the

ghetto, several lowrises buildings in Downtown). If you found them in the Warehouse, that means you

know what those buildings are. And that would be a big help for us

I don't understand why seeing a full copy of the map would be a spoiler, even if R* did flash an image of the entire map it would only further fuel everyone's curiosity. I mean even if I had a hard copy of the map in my hand it wouldn't make any sense until I play the game it would be like staring at a map of South Africa considering I've never been there seeing a a map of it wouldn't make any sense at all it would just make me wonder what all the markers related to.

It is enough to find out for ourselves, but I hope that they will show more of the eastcoast / army base in the west so that we can finally map that and we can get a clear picture of the whole (if it is the whole ) map

I remember reading that historically R* have been known to release official maps prior to game launch. Does anyone know how soon it is before release that they usually show the map?

So, there is this squashed circle like shape in the city - what can it be...... only joking.

 

So I was thinking - If the online play has been watched in action by the Gaming press - we should get a better audio description of the map. The last time that the press saw the game - it was a planned out section of the map and character actions.

 

This time it is online - so the action should have been more random. They probably had 15+ R* workers playing the game for them to watch - much harder to hide things on screen with so much going on. I am looking forward to articles describing this and the locations they spotted

 

I still think the trailer we will see will be well edited to remove things. Still we should get a bit more for the maps as they have to show a little extra each time they release a trailer to keep us happy.

Yes, I think I'm gonna hide the minimap too.

I read that the experience is way more rewarding.

It's too easy when you have all the red dots indicating where the enemies are.

Plus, with a map of that size it's must be really awesome to not have directions.

Can't wait to try that !

This is where having the three playable characters, all living in very different parts of the world, and a world that's completely open to the player from the beginning really becomes an advantage.

No. Rockstar has already told us that we won't be unlocking area after area as in previous GTAs. Everything will be open from the beginning. Opinion means nothing when no unlocking areas is a fact.
