This probably posted somewhere but for the people who did not see it yet this is pretty cool http://www.gta-expert.it/gta5/vs_los_angeles.html

Thanks for that.

I've seen most of those comparisons over the last year or so, but to have them all on one page makes it so much better.

The attention to detail that R* have shown is amazing.

Does anybody believe that there will be any decent sized islands on the east or west coasts? No evidence thus far of any, but it would be a nice addition to the map.

If there are any decent sized islands, R* have been careful not to show us.

Either the islands are too far off the coast to see from any screenshots, they have been edited out of the shots or they have been very clever with the angles & cloud cover etc to keep them hidden.

I hope there will be some & I believe there will be some, but like you said, there's no evidence yet.

East coast or far SW would be my best bets.

I think there will be - Would make good use of some planes.

Would be nice to think that you have to use the plane to get across to a small island.

A few people living there - a few roads - small house to buy + garage for a car.

The only reason R* wouldn't put one in is if they simply run out of available disc space with all these new features we are getting.

Landmass has nothing to do with disc space.

I think if there were smaller islands (not counting some rocks sticking out like in the lighthouse scene), they would have to be connected by bridges. Else it wouldn't make sense to have vehicles there.

Could be a rich "off the map" kind of settlement, with fancy cars transported via ferry, plane or helicopter.

I definitely do see some sort of Santa Catalina-esque island off to the southwest.

The map looks kinda empty and, where is San Fierro and Venturas?

That map looks really blank

This is a MAPPING topic to try and identify locations we've seen so far. It is not for discussion of whether another city exists or the size of the map. Think that the archway is San Diego? Fine, a simple comparison picture will do, but if you want to drive the point home with an argument, we have places for that. This fantastic topic is turning to crap because you can't keep your arguments in the correct place. Please respect those who are putting a lot of work into this project and post elsewhere if that is all you have to say.

Think San Diego will be in V? Use The Multiple TOWNS Argument

Think LS is too small? Use Los Santos Size

Thank you.

Quoting myself, once again.

Please use topics elsewhere if you want to discuss other towns or locations that haven't been seen yet.

Wow, don't you all think you've ruined the map for yourselves if you know it inside-out?

Just to clear things up for you, San Fierro and Las Venturas does not exist within the GTAV open-world area. It's just Los Santos with its surrounding hills, countryside, beaches, wetlands, towns, etc. The open-world area will not be blank whatsoever, it will be beautiful, massive and diverse! Besides, the open-world doesn't need to have three cities to be big! Other than that, this is not an San Andreas remake in High Definition! icon14.gif

Yes I believe so. You can see part of the Joshua Tree National Park rock formations (North Horror Rock) too the bottom left of this screen:

Also here is a reference:

I think the Hut is for Base-Jumping, and that object certainly looks like it's made for transporting Cable Cars?

^^ @vLx

Very good, at first I thought it was a base jumping platform but this has shown me that it has gaps in the frame so it's definitely not a platform.

And it definitely looks like some sort of pylon/something for holding cables - Cables for a cable car.

@arrowface10 cut the full size images out of your post would you buddy?

Oui.

I think it's an old mining tramway that runs down towards where Franklin had his shootout.

I think it's a cable car because otherwise everytime you want to jump from that mountain you have to drive back which might be very annyoing.

But if we look at this picture, there is no pylon (at the top of the mountain and on the mountain). So I don't know..

I certainly hope so, even if it is small.

A smaller island covered in woods with just a shack housing either a)a hermit or b)escaped/wanted criminal, would be pretty cool for a mission or even just exploring.

Sorry for just jumping into the middle again (i did search back 20 pages or so and couldn't find anything on it).. You know the new screen showing off the 'marines' helicopter with the police chopper (i think) in the background... I'm sure theres a fecking massive long bridge/raised-road in the background just beneath the police chopper. Just wondered if you guys have mapped it to anywhere. I'm pretty sure its a bridge/raised-road as the holding support structures are spread evenly.

The bridge has already been mapped. The river you see is the river south of Mt Zancudo (or Josiah).
