- I think that archway is heavily inspired by the one in San Diego.

- I don't think San Diego is in the game.

- I think R* put a San Diego element in Los Santos ON PURPOSE.

- I don't think the building next to the archway is the one on the buzzard screenshot.

- I do believe that archway leads to a maritime area, Marina Del Rey is a good guess but it could be someplace else.

- I think that the building behind the arch is the Ritz Carlton Del Rey parody (green on my map).

- I don't think we can conclude anything about that with the current intel we have right now.

EDIT :

- I don't think the Redondo Beach Arch just above has anything to do with the ingame one.

^ the left pole you marked is in front of the arch, not apart of it. Most likely a street light pole.

EDIT: I wasn't looking at it close enough. They're behind it, it looks like.

You know about the San Diego thing. I don't actually think its going to be "ANOTHER" city or "Town" ....Some pages back i posted something and I still need someone who lives in the area to verify it for me. Here on the East coast in Miami.... From Miami to West Palm Beach is all urban area.. about 70 miles. If indeed Rockstar is keeping true with saying that they are focusing on only one city (which still is a very vague statement)... It could be something like a coastal urban area. I believe San Diego to Los Angeles, there is really no part of the trip when it is truly rural area in between, it all looks vaguely urban. Am I right about this? So this could be something Rockstar is planning.

So what I'm saying here is......Los Santos, is bigger than we all have seen so far. I think we've only seen 60 to 70 % of Los Santos.

I don't think there is any city or district made to represent San Diego.

We've seen almost everything of Los Santos. The blueprint map is very clear.

What we haven't seen is the southern part of the harbor and the area north of the city, around the Vinewood Sign.

The rest is well known and there's really not much to discover.

Yeah from just looking at it I agree with you. But we can't tell for sure yet... we don't know if that is a true close up LS city. I just don't think Rockstar would leak the whole LS city out on a map months before the game comes out. But you could be right . Also in actual reality, there is more city of LS behind the real Hollywood sign. Have you guys seen any evidence of it being the same on the map?

All the screens suggests that there is no urban area behind the Vinewood Sign.

The mountains around the city mark the limits of the urban sprawl.

Yes there are urban areas on the hills but apparently not behind them.

GTA 4 and its DLC have no hints about what the next game is like. There's easter eggs from the other GTAs though. The only thing in GTA 4 and its DLC is the poster in TBoGT saying "Liberty City its over. Next stop -tear-" or something similar to that.

Did you not see the OBVIOUS hint at Funland, Hove Beach? sigh.gif

You mean the scene from GTA San Andreas? By that logic, Vice City and Las Venturas are in the game as well because of Tommy's hotel safehouse and the giant chicken. Any, this is a pointless discussion.

I think those arches are a mixture, the one from SD and the one from Redondo Beach, they are mixed together.

As everyone should know, the cities that Rockstar create aren't exact replicas. Its very possible that the gas lamp (or whatever its called) is infact modelled after one in SD, but is in the fictional city of Los Santos. But I think the discussion about the gas lamp should end here, until we get more screenshots that clarify where it is actually located, let it be Los Santos or a medium-large town we haven't seen.

I was playing Gay Tony when I noticed a painting in Luis' apartment. It kind of reminds me of the mountains and small island where the lighthouse picture is. What do you guys think?

Back in that timeframe, Rockstar North clearly hadn't got any final or clear idea where they want to take the series next (obviously they were toying with possibilites but I doubt that they could definitely know), so it's impossible that picture implies anything. That's just a picture without any meaning (or without any hint towards V).

^Which is reminiscent of the high desert region that is about two hours from real-life LA. The distance from Trevor to the Vinewood sign could certainly be a SUBurban area, but maybe not.

From the mods:

Final warning. Please keep these off-topic arguments out of here.

This is a MAPPING topic to try and identify locations we've seen so far. It is not for discussion of whether another city exists or the size of the map. Think that the archway is San Diego? Fine, a simple comparison picture will do, but if you want to drive the point home with an argument, we have places for that. This fantastic topic is turning to crap because you can't keep your arguments in the correct place. Please respect those who are putting a lot of work into this project and post elsewhere if that is all you have to say.

Think San Diego will be in V? Use The Multiple TOWNS Argument

Think LS is too small? Use Los Santos Size

Do you really want to take a vacation from these forums when Rockstar might announce GTA Online info? If not I suggest you follow through with my request.

It's three elevation changes to the prison and the Vinewood Sign hill is pretty distant in the screenshot posted from the Gameplay Trailer.

This picture kind of makes me think that the big mountain (Chiliad/alamo whatever) will be more to the west of the map as opposed to the very north. I'm probably wrong, but im just wondering if someone can link me to the full justification behind its north position. It looks like the base of the mountain is at the top left of this screen so it seems almost like the top quarter of the fan-maps need to be rotated I know theres that screen of the US bank tower at night and you can see the black mountains in the background behind the vinewood hills but they look smaller or 'skinnier' because of the darkness/lack of detail - which almost kind of backs up my point that they could be almost 'side-on' from that view. as I said, Im probably wrong but i cant seem to get my head around some of the screens, you guys are way smarter than me haha so any help/inptut would be appreciated
