Since we are close to having a final version of the fan-made maps, I though I should share a very old version of Fido's map, which only includes what we saw in the first trailer. The progress since then has been amazing. Enjoy some nostalgia.

I think R* are keeping something back from us that is huge, and I mean really HUGE.

Anyway, heres something I found. I'm not sure this place has been positioned on the map yet, but I think the plane picture was taken 500 to 1000 feet to the left of the quad picture.

Trevor's Atv is in Sandy Shores if that's the same aerial mast behind him, so just North of the airstrip. Other direction but literally just over the road from there. A while back I pointed out you can faintly see the mystery buildings in the new pic too.

I'm not sure if its the same mast, but I just can't place it in a direction or match it with anything in the bigger map.

You may have pointed this one out too then. Sorry if you have smile.gif

This could be a hint to a double-sided blueprint map, with much more land to the south/west.

Or the position of Los Santos in the image above is wrong.

Not sure though, what do the others think?

I think... that the blueprint map being double sided is already confirmed

As in all previous Grand Theft Auto games, we’ve made a point of including a map of the world to aid players in navigating the city. In all versions of GTAV, the game disc will accompany a map with all the details players will need to navigate the world. One big change though with this game is that with a world of this size, we created a double-sided map based poster to make sure players have all the information they might need to discover and explore the world. The blueprint map in the other editions does contain plenty of additional information and secrets on it.

But having said that, we have no idea what's on the side we haven't seen.

"eerily"? Explain please.

Frighteningly close. So close it is scary.

Nah, I think we've got at least 70% of the map, or am I wrong? dozingoff.gif

50%...?

I think they were referring more to the shape of the map, and placement of major landmarks such as the city, Alamo Sea, Mt Chiliad and Josiah, the rivers etc.

All these maps are pretty similar.

This is by far, the most impressive.

Only because it's been filled in with speculation rather than Fido's or Kiwi's who've only placed things that can be worked out from screenshots. I do like it though.

Unclef*cker: I suggest you have a look at GTAKiwi's map and Fido_le_muet's Flickr album (both can be found in the OP) before you come wading in here telling people their wasting their time. You'll see from both of these that the basic shape and layout of the maps in here are pretty hard to argue against. Besides, if they enjoy doing it it's hardly a waste of time.

I think this map is 80% close to real map.

They were talking about the normal map that usually comes with all GTA's since III. Not the blueprint. Although it's plausible.

Yeah, as I was saying some pages back in this thread. Take the blueprint map with a grain of salt. I really do think that the blueprint map is double sided. One side showing an up close view of Los Santos itself, and the back side showing the entire map. So thats why it looks like you are running out of map after the mountains. But i highly believe that there is more landmass behind the mountains. Don't let the "running out of map area" fool you......

and if i'm right about the blueprint map being double sided...and what we've seen is actually an up close view of los santos itself... CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW BIG THE ENTIRE MAP IS GOING TO BE? Still pure speculation but omg...this could be such a huge game world!!!

I thought this would get a bigger reaction.

What does everybody else think about the similarities in the looks and location of the buildings relative to the mountains?

It might be something, it might be not.

In a first look, a few things I noticed:

- LS skyline has its skyscrapers compacted, in this screenshot they seem to be a bit too spread out

-There's a chance that this shot was taken from the airport, but look at it, its impossible to be a runway or even a taxyway, that small house behind the plane supports that it's, at least a small airstrop/airfield

-Considering the distance between the airport and downtown LS, those same buildings would be closer, therefore, taller.

So for me it leads to 2 options:

First, the buildings we see are in fact, from LS skyline and this shot was taken from an island. (Santa Catalina Island theory)

Second, It's small proof that theres something more than Los Santos we've not seen, I don't quite believe in a second major city, but who knows, it's R*

It could maybe be the piece of land people were suspecting was southeast of LS in the shamal screenshot.

Doesn't look like there's anything there.  How do you even know that's where the airport is?

Yeah you never know, its Rockstar. They keep saying.. "We want you to discover things when you play the game"... I wouldn't be surprised if there is no proof of any new areas until we open the game and see it for ourselves. But without a doubt, they are hiding a massive portion of their map. All the screen shots mostly show the same areas.

Indeed, after 2 years, we've only seen LS, sandy shores area with de sea, big ass mountains, always the same stuff, different perspectives. Well, Paleto was something fresh. But yeah, they're up to something and we're up to some surprises, good ones, I hope.

Those buildings in the distance are certainly a mystery. Besides actual buildings, what else could they be? Grain silos? Something industrial? The prison?

If there were less buildings they could be industrial buildings or silos, but analysing the perspective, they would be too tall to serve the previous purposes.

I believe that they're, probably, mid-size towers/skyscrapers, but they might be what you stated.

Most grain silos are stuck together, Those aren't.

If you go back to the Kokatu preview, they said "GTA V is 3.5x the size of that of Rockstar's sprawling 2010 western Red Dead Redemption" and "five times bigger if you count the new game's underwater areas." That means total area is composed of 70% percent land and 30% underwater. With latest version of the blueprint map, I tried measuring the ratio of land to water using a pixel count in GIMP. It comes out to about 55% land and 45% water (including the Alamo Sea).

I'm guessing there are parts of the map you can't access or go underwater. Either that, or one or more islands are missing from the latest blueprint map.

Oh... now I see it. What is that? mercie_blink.gif You have Photoshop, right? @cerenn That means there's ALOT more of the map we haven't seen yet. biggrin.gif
