I don't get why people say the hikers mountain is bigger than any mountain we have seen. Compare the trees on that mountain to the ones on Mt Alamo in the new shot. Alamo is easy big enough. The only reason the trailer 1 mountain seemed so huge is because we are at the foot of it, looking directly up.

This dumbfounds me.

We take perspective for granted, sure, fair enough.. but to not realise that the mountain with the hikers isn't THAT big, annoys me.

 

You're on ground level, imagine your house from 100 feet away. It'd look tiny but you'd think, oh wow that's big up close.

 

The same applies here. This mountain looks big, just SORT OF big, not even jaw-droppingly huge in the hikers shot, and then look at Chiliad (or whatever) from far away and it DOES look impressively huge... so just imagine THAT up close from the bottom of it.

The bridge in the other screen released today (mouth of the Zancudo) does not have any arches and the bridge to the north of that (from the gameplay trailer) has notches cut in the side of it. So this bridge is niether of those. Just a hunch, but I think this is from the other side of the map.

yeah, i spent more time staring at it (i feel i'm in good company admitting that) and i get the impression it may be the east side. we'll just see, i guess

I was going to say don't look for faces in things as you'll see them everywhere, but I've drawn the whole map looking like a face so I can hardly talk.

I agree, new one is a bit further north.

 

I used to think the old picture was what the freeway looked like up there but it seems it was a different road parallel to it.

Im not too sure about that, notice how the bottom screenshot the road appears to wind a bit to the right? Also the Top screen you can see you are passing over a small bridge. You should be able to see that bridge in the road on the bottom screen but you dont. There is also a lack of highway signs. It may be the same road but I dont think its the same exact location.

 

-edit- Actually nevermind, it appears maybe that double lain highway..With the yellow car being closer to the hillside and the purple car on the other side of the highway heading a different direction and slightly elevated.

The top screen is closer to mountain 1. Those mountain shapes are identical. Why can't the road wind up in a slightly different direction later?

 

Think of the mountain that has the railway in the bottom screen shot as "Mountain 0". Mountain 0 cannot be seen in the top screenshot, so the road is going to look different. Enough that the bridge the top screen doesn't show up in the bottom.

I thought I spotted something so I enhanced the colours, here we see those same big buildings we've seen from the desert airport again.

I think that's a real possibility, not really a city but more like the big hotels you get inside and around the park.

My reasons for thinking it's Alamo in the Hikers shot have more to do with Marketing, than actual scale given. I think that the Hikers shot is R*'s way of indicating that the mountain in the image is a huge mountain to blow the consumers away and be impressive, and I think that they decided to use Alamo, because it is the largest. If you're going to try to convey size, it makes your job way easier to just use the biggest mountain already, and you'll also get the players to want to find that location and look at it on their tvs with some of the awe when they first saw it on the computer. Additionally, like the guy who thinks it's on a hill across the highway, I think it's partially up the mountain, thus making it as impressive and more because you are already placed somewhat up the Alamo. I've never been 100% confident that it is the NE slope, east of Paleto, but I also haven't seen anyone produce any other reasonable arguments for anywhere else. My placement of the shot around the crescent rock-face in the Cuban Shot isn't perfect, but there are some additional elements like the treeline fading at the right point on Alamo, the crags on the east (left) side of Alamo's peak from the shot of Paleto and Alamo from the N Paleto Islands. There are things that don't quite match-up, like the rise (like a second peak) in the far right of the Hikers shot, and also the lack of any shot that could add additional credence to where the three craggy spines are. If someone can show me enough elements to suggest a better location, I might change my mind, but there is very few of those left that some could easily find.

I don't know if this is obvious or not, but at first I thought it was north of chilliad, the sea, but it's not, it's the alamo sea, with the south face of chilliad with a lot more detail what we have seen till now.

If this is just halfway looking toward Mt Chilliad from the Alamo Sea, then CVG were right, The lake is massive!
