I don't know if this is obvious or not, but at first I thought it was north of chilliad, the sea, but it's not, it's the alamo sea, with the south face of chilliad with a lot more detail what we have seen till now.

As you can see in that photo, the beach is at a slight angle. With this angle in mind, here's the sunset in comparison to all of the maps:

As you can see, it's perfectly west.

It's weird because the sun is never in the northern part of sky in real LA. But in this screen I see the Griffith Observatory and the one building with a characteristical tower (National Bank Tower?) and they're both on the North of LS. And that means that the sun (or whatever it is), which is beetween them, is also on the North. Am I right?

This screen is really tricky IMHO!

I've wondered this, it's because R* change the sun position in some screenshots for better effect, this is still looking north and the sun most likely goes E-S-W across the sky.

this coupled with the fact that the protag switching feature was turned sideways... strange to say the least. is there any way we could have the map oriented totally f*cking wrong? they did say reimagined after all.

No, we don't have the map oriented wrongly. The protag switching feature also shows the mini map before the switch happens and the north on said mini maps corresponds exactly with the north on the blueprint map.

Rockstar just likes to alter their screenshots to make them look better. I wish they and other developers would stop doing that though but it seems to be ingrained in numerous type of businesses, ie the fashion industry.
