Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

Please GTA make the area of gta 5 bigger i mean huge than just cause 2

We can't do that. R* possibly can do that on next gen consoles, in GTA VI.

Somehow i agree with you and on other way I don't agree with you. Take a look at the L.A Noire map. It's huge and it takes about 10-20 minutes to travel other side map. Maybe GTA V's Los Santos city map will have the same size as L.A Noire.

Hoooooooooly sh*t! But I remember from a leak way back (ex-rockstar-employee I think) who said that it takes a good 15 minutes from LS center to the countryside with a car (real time)

MASSIVE!

LA Noire, aside from its facial animation recordings being played back in a novel manner, was a very VERY basic game compared to GTA. It's closest comparison in GTA I can make is Vice City. San Andreas did way more than LA Noire did. LA Noire also featured a very bland map with lots of landmarks, but very little detail/grime/lived in feeling. It was VERY low detail/low poly, and a huge far cry from what you saw in GTA San Andreas even, let alone GTA IV.

It is a big map, but it is populated by very old, canned technology for cars and people. Some nice work on the player controller, and the locomotion there, but for the most part, it's basically a PS2 game with shaders and a nice playback system for digital performances. That's about it. It is otherwise a very, very basic development.

I haven't seen this. Is this new or leaked?

It's the red headed step child of development screenshots that no one wants to believe because it shows the true pain of 720p and 512mb memory, so they assume it's fake, cause Rockstar fooled them with downscaled "high settings" "pc style" screenshots before this one surfaced, so it doesn't get shared much tounge.gif

Also also, LA Noire wasn't even a Rockstar game. It was developed by a different company entirely, Rockstar just published it.

You're correct, it was developed by Team Bondi.

THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT CHILLIAD.

You are right, its not Chilliad - its what we currently refer to as Mt Zancudo.

What are those things in the horizon?

Most likely a seawall, like so:

Many beaches have them extending out into the sea and include tsunami sirens.

This thread could be of use in mapping the city, we identified a main road, Route 68

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=568115

There is one more, very likely road identified, W. Eclipse Blvd. It is most likely this games' W. Sunset Blvd., and goes from North Santa Maria Beach to Eastern Vinewood (possibly into the Echo Park area). Signage in the Second Trailer with Franklin driving out of LS on a motorbike, and an Eclipse Liquor and Deli being down the street from the Sunset Tower in the First trailer have me quite convinced, add to that a number of Sunset Strip regulars (Beverly Hills Hotel, Viper Room, Chateau Marmot, The Standard Hotel on Sunset). I am also starting to think that they have blended Hollywood and Sunset Blvds. as they do converge irl. More on that in a moment, as I look through Hollywood Blvd.

The Leprechaun

Fido, I think I found quite a few buildings from Hollywood blvd. The building with golden/yellow italics in the gameplay trailer is known as Hurricane, but called Tsunami in game. The Standard Hotel on W. Sunset Blvd. (W. Eclipse Blvd., also obviously not on Hollywood Blvd.) is across the street from Eclipse Liquor and Deli. Clappers is actually probably a representation of Cinegrill (attached to the Roosevelt Hotel). Missi's as seen in the gameplay trailer is probably mimicing Playmates on Hollywood Blvd. Graumans Chinese Theater is probably called The OL(I)ENTA (not sure about the I). Blazing Tattoos is probably a comparison to California Tattoos (as both have flaming tattoo signs). The building with Tsunami is known as the Cherokee Building. Lastly, I think that the theater across the street from the Wax Museum in the gameplay trailer is the Vinewood Guiness (a mimic of the Hollywood Guiness), but could be El Capitan Theater. And lastly, do you plan to include roads on your map, because I think you should check out my previous comments about the likelihood of where W. Eclipse Blvd. is? Also, sorry for the double post.

I'm seeing an airstrip here, with a tower on the left, several jets on the right and a hangar in front of the runway ...

user posted image

what do you think ?

That definitely looks like an airstrip to me but those things on the right could possibly be simply rows of buildings? Ima just go with planes cus they'd aren't even lined up straight so most likely it's a bunch of planes. Has this airstrip been seen on the mapping projects or is this the strip next to the Alamo sea and is within close proximity to Trevor's police chase scene in the gameplay trailer a completely UN-SEEN airstrip yet to be mapped?

Yeah, I agree but somethin' else... what mountain might that be? Don't tell me this mountain is also Mount Chilliad cause I won't agree. We've seen different screenshots from Mount Chilliad and never seen this airstrip from the same angle. Anyways if this mountain should be Chilliad which means on the other side might be Alamo Sea well where is Paleto on this side then? THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT CHILLIAD.

That's Mt. Josiah, the one north of the Zancudo river here:

While things are a bit quiet on the mapping front, I thought I would post these images for debate.

They wont help shape the maps or even provide much detail to the maps, but they are probably worth a look.

This shot shows a tunnel like structure in the yellow oval. It was posted a couple of months ago (can't remember who by, sorry) but nobody replied to it.

There are no visible roads or tracks leading to it, but it's definitely a manmade structure. Secret entrance to the military base perhaps? ph34r.gif

user posted image

The quad bike scene from the gameplay trailer (0:36 sec) has these 3 upright support structures in the green oval.

user posted image

I was wondering if they are a support structure for a road that is cut through the edge of the hillside, similar to an avalanche tunnel. Maybe it's a simple version of the pictures below.

user posted imageuser posted image

Any thoughts or ideas?

For a bit of a laugh, check out the Fred Flintstone feet on the yellow quad rider in the trailer.

Cheers.

CaptRobau and dyz this is where W. Eclipse Blvd. most likely is. One of my earlier posts I mention that there is a liquor store called Eclise Liquor and Deli (probably in Vinewood) and you can see the Sunset Tower Hotel most likely on the same street.

Yeah that's what I believe to be W. Eclipse Blvd. (W. Sunset Blvd. IRL).

I also matches fairly close in design to the real thing. user posted image

By the way Fido, this is what I am talking about. And I also, believe Zombie Elvis' map should be on the first page (even is contains some guesswork), but I am not sure whether that is okay for this forum.

Just to point out - This screen from the game play trailer is actually the same screen from trailer 1 (I think 1) of the trucks

driving down the freeway.

Could just be the end of the pier - looks like a flat roof of a building to me.

There is a Life Guard building down close to that end of the beach in the plane screen shot.

This is very possible, if you look at the boat's view of Bixby bridge, you can see a similar road that tunnels underneath the south end of the bridge. There is a paved road going up from the Lost trailer park up in to the mountains that seems to disappear, it's probably the same thing.

They are perfectly straight & evenly spaced apart, not very natural looking. None of the other trees in the shot look like that at all.

It looks like they are in front of an opening in the side of the hill, maybe a path that is cut through that section. IDK, guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

That does give a nice perspective.

Also I wonder if the main highway goes all the way around the map.

It will be nice having open highways, unlike IV where that was often hard to find.

Those 3 lane highways look great.

Imagine taking out one of those high end cars all the way around at top speed.

I wonder how long it would take to go all the way around the map?

Makes Los Santos look like such a perfect size, largely explorable, but not tediously time consuming to traverse. I will say that I think Richman should definitely be considered part of the city area, but you cut it off in your comparison, same with a little more north of Vinewood.
