Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

Looks good, Fido_le_muet. My only gripe though is with this picture.

Someone said a quite a while ago that the building on the left is the LAUSD HQ and the comparison is much better I would say. California Plaza 1 seems to be the building on the far right. And the building Identified as California plaza in the picture is 611 Place, right? Don't know if this is entirely consistent with the other angles.

Decided to do what I think are highways in Los Santos, and added logos of real-life highways in Los Angeles which indicate what highway it may be based on. This is actually helpful in determining what areas might be in the game.

 

 

An interesting note is that the I-5 and US 101 don't really continue north, but those highways have somewhat jagged turns before heading straight north throughout Los Angeles, so I'm not really surprised. Both the I-5 and US 101 seem to be partially obscured by the moderately annoying buildings. Hope this helps.

I can't say I disagree with you here.

The building on the left clearly looks like the LAUSD HQ, no doubt about it.

And it's also true that the building behind it is similar to 611 Place.

 

But... (there's a but) this doesn't seem to be consistent with other angles like you said.

Have a look at these pics :

 

 

These buildings (611 Place and LAUSD HQ) are nowhere to be found on both screenshots.

The twin towers must be California Plaza as there are no other twins in real LA.

And about that building to the far right on your screenshot, I believe it is the Mellon Bank Center. The sahpe looks kinda similar.

 

I'm not saying I'm 100% correct but based on other shots from the trailer, California Plaza and Wedbush are the most likely candidates for now.

Now, like I said earlier, it is completely possible that the map has changed over time and that the trailer is made of earlier and updated earlier versions of the map.

Maybe they changed some buildings here and there.

Yes, it seems that the freeways will be named Interstates, but they'll be numbered in a completely different way to the actual system in LA, as signage in the trailer has interstates 1, 2 and 5, of which the first two do not exist.

It's also worth noting they're re-locating I-5, so the route in V probably won't be very consistent with its real life route.

I think the California plaza building on the right here is actually 611 Place. You can see tall horizontal windows on it.

 

And 611 place is behind the California Plaza building on the left in this picture.

Think about it, the building blocking 611 can't be taller than its slightly shorter twin in the first picture since it is farther away in the other picture. edit: nah may be not, but still)

 

And I would think that the LAUSD HQ is misidentified as the Wedbush Building in the second shot too. Looking at the real landmarks compared to what is in the game you can see a lot of liberties were taken with some buildings.

Well you make a good point.

 

Your theory could be true. Maybe 611 is behind California Plaza in that last shot.

I'm not 100% convinced but maybe your right. I guess we'll have an answer soon and see who was right

 

However, I mostly disagree about Wedbush/LAUSD HQ. In that last shot, the shape match the Wedbush perfectly.

still, I do agree that R* took a lot of liberties with buildings design and I think the Wedbush got mixed up with the LAUSD HQ.

In that shot with the hobo, the clading is 100% the same as the LAUSD HQ.

 

The other option is that we're all completely off

That's the Mile High Club Building seen throughout the trailer.

It's a building under construction.

Some say it is based on the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Tower which was in construction around 2008-2010 . The location compared to real life LA kinda fit.

Others say it is based on the upcoming Los Angeles Tower, due to be completed in 2015/2016, which will also be located in that area.

 

But IMO, it doesn't really have a real life counterpart.

I thought it was from the Citigroup building, in the other shot you see that building has a big antenna (unlike the real one). And its just being blocked by California Plaza 1 in the jet shot. Both buildings have a light across their tops too like the California Plaza ones. Don't know whats up with those gaps in the window lights though.

I have to admit the one on the left is too boxy, but the shapes of many buildings in the trailer have been altered.

 

Anyways, to go with my 611 Place theory, the antennas on the left building are from it (which is behind the building).
