Only reason I keep coming back to this forum is because of threads like this. Great job guys!

Same, there are a lot of idiots on this site but this thread is brilliant. Hats off!

Do you think R* will not keep the "three-island" thing but instead the map will be one big landmass?

old post of mine...

The question of this topic, 'What are the odds?' has never been answered.

Is there a mathmatician in the house?

monocle.gif Well let's take the major flagship GTA titles (non DLC or stories).

GTA (1997) - 3 main cities

GTA2 (1999) - 3 main districts/sections but one city [clusterf*ck by today's standards]

GTA3 (2001) - 3 main sections but one city

GTAVC (2002) - 2 main sections but one city (arguably the middle section being a third)

GTASA (2004) - 3 main cities

GTAIV (2008) - 3 main sections but one city

Now, what determines the amount of cities is the importance different cities serve to the story line. So it's not about cities, it's about sections (consistently 3). You have to think to yourself that LA is landlocked unlike NYC so there is no reasonable means of dividing just LS (especially looking at the trailer). Tijuana (USA-Mexico guarded border) can easily be blocked off from LS and San Diego to make 3 sections.

I say <10% chance of only LS as a MAJOR city (very slim)

Is their any proof the game is missing ''pieces'' I saw that road to nowhere in this thread somewhere and i'm just wondering if theirs anymore ''missing pieces'' like that in the trailer. ?

I'm trying to find evidence that gta is the new detox and this will help my case if we can find some proof that the trailer is slapped together at the last minute

I also consider that final view in the trailer with the plane going over the city as ''missing pieces'' because the town is small as sh*t and has like 3 skyscrappers and a few bulidings it looks bloody tiny

So have we got anything else like this ? I'm planning on making a thread that will out rockstar and their laziness and NO ! i'm not being the new zee. I onestly believe theirs more to this silence than max payne 3 and if you guys help we'll get to the bottom off this alot quicker

Thanks in advance guys, Cole Phelps gta

EDIT : Just remembered this thread also pointed out how close the L.A observatory in griffith park is to the beach. So that's 3 things allready ph34r.gif

I know exactly what your talking about.

In the trailer when there are angles giving large views of LS they avoid showing the east and southeast. They don't even show a mountain or coastline in that direction. There is much more to the game IMO. LS didn't look like the largest and most ambitious by ANY means.

Yeah I think they're still hiding something big, I mean there's obviously going to be some small towns positioned around Los Santos, but just going by what they've done previously I think there'll also be sections locked off that are similar in size to Los Santos.

In fact, I'm still leaning towards this, there has to be something quite big behind those mountains.

I'm not 100% sure what they are hiding because we have little official info; but I'm 100% sure they are hiding something geographically.

Like several of you said above, I think the trailer didn't exactly show Los Santos as it will be in the released version.

I think that when the trailer was made, the map (and the city) was far from finished and I believe they were still changing bits here and there.

When making my map, I noticed that sometimes, buildings seem to be at slighty different places. Not miles away but it looks like some of them have different locations and orientations.

Anyway, it's kinda obvious that in november '11, R* were still working on the map and thus, that what we saw on the trailer isn't the final version of LS.

(very long post from the previous page)

I hear you mate. I know what you're saying.

But I don't really see how I could implement this theory on my map.

That would mean I'd have to redo it completely.

I don't feel like it at the moment. Although the day will come I'll probably have too.

But for now, I think I'll keep it as it is. Which mean like this :

That's almost a given though. Either we'll learn what it is in the second trailer or when we play the game. There must be quite a big bit missing. I doubt they would show a vast amount of the map, I think they wanted to show the changing scenery.

I dunno, i keep watching the trailer and it seems a little small? i mean when you get the view with the GTAV logo you can even see the highway lights near the ocean and with the speed that the jets fly you would cross the map in like 45 seconds?, if it wasnt for R* saying about the surrounding hills and contryside i would go for more than 1 big city. it dont seem to add up to me, they have gotta be hiding something, and if there not, i get the feeling people may be dissapointed. but thats just my pennys worth.

I don't expect areas shown in the trailer to look much different in the final game. Rockstar has said in past interviews that their process is to design the map first. Adding layers of detail and traffic and peds means those areas are basically set. The GTA V trailer showed much more content than the first GTA IV trailer and, I think, showed GTA V was farther along.

Agreed. Even if LS was different in the final game, it's not like R* will simply widen the city and make it larger; they would just add detail. The GTAV LS is and forever will be IMO not big enough to logically be the only major city in GTAV.

The city looks really large from the shot with the oil pumps but slightly smaller from the final plane shot becaue of the angle. They havent really shown how far the city extends to south or east, only to the west from downtown and slightly north.

Keep in mind LA is a very horizontal city if compared to NY. The major metro area is nowhere near the size it is in NY.

"Downtown" LA, is very small, but the city itself is much larger, it's just that in LA they build out rather than up, like in NY.

So, my point, is I think a few of you are looking at the view of downtown in the trailer and thinking that it makes up the majority of the city. It doesn't.

Yeah exactly, the trailer mainly focused on the skyline during large shots of the city, yet you can see the suburbs in the distance a couple of times in the trailer and thy seem really expansive.

I don't think LS will be a small city. Never in one shot do we ever see the whole city. East of Los Santos could be suburbs based on Orange County. In the final shot of the trailer with the plane in Downtown, you can't see the port, you can't see Santa Monica, and you certainly can't see any further than slightly west of Downtown simply because there is just so much smog. We haven't seen the whole city yet, so obviously Los Santos is likely bigger.

user posted image

We clearly can't see much of West Los Santos. It could be Santa Monica, though it could be unseen areas. South of Downtown is a South Central based area, based on the Gateway Cities and it seems they'll be closer to Downtown.

We see parts of East Los Santos, but not all of it. We don't see the complete side of Eastern Los Santos, so there could be more.

Which is proof for the more than one city theory. I'm still pretty convinced we'll see LS, SF and even LV in game. Compared to IV's Liberty City V's Los Santos looks even smaller.

This is what people who think the map will be small need to realize. The L.A metro area is giant. Plus there will be some good countryside to go along with it. This map won't be small by anymeans. We don't need SF and LV or San Diego or Tijuana to have a large map.

I'm not immediately convinced that's Beverly Hills. In real-life, the Beverly Hills isn't immediately directly west of Downtown Los Angeles. The Wilshire area is actually west of Downtown, and is east of Beverly Hills, so what the question marks are is likely the Wilshire region, and I really doubt that's the Beverly Hills.

It actually did snow (or graupel dropped) in Los Angeles last year.

Since the game will likely take place around April-July (Spring-Summer months), I doubt you'll see snow unless the San Bernardino Mountains are recreated in the game, where it does snow.

-The pic isn't referring to the city; it's referring to the mountains on the edge of town and it snows all the time there BTW.

-Can't you tell the picture looks way more recent than 1962?
