Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

Hey, I think I found the neighborhood where the guy on foot is being chased by the cops. I know there are tons of apartments with blue tarps on their roofs in LA but these have a distinctive feature: Alleyways with gated garages. The ghettoness seems exaggerated but See for yourselves.

This also means the house with the for sale sign is south (if my guessing with the shadows is right) of it since the tall buildings in both backgrounds are the same. That is entirely consistent with the [real life] apartments which are north of some nicer suburbs on hilly ground.

I might be wrong though if there are other places with the exact same apartment design.

Amazing! It's the same kind of neighborhood. Thanks!

God damn they got it perfectly. GTA V will definitely be VERY detailed.

Big surprise! This neighborhood (Thanks, boxmonster) ...

...is near the house I found (0,6 miles between them):

And We can see the same building in this two locations.

We must find this building.

I thought it was at the right of Jefferson Motel in Los Santos:

That all depends; is that a street that the guy is running down? Form my perspective, it can be either a street or an alleyway. The line in the middle however suggests that that is a road, which would explain why the police cars are in it. Usually, I think police are not allowed to drive their cars through aleyways in regards to officer safety.

Therefore, this image could be showing us the redesigned Jefferson Motel, assuming that it is still even called that, othrwise it will most likely take on the name of whatever district its in.

Good find, Stremel icon14.gif

What is the name of this neighborhood? At least the name of the location can beused as a foundation for finding the location of that "mystery building"; starting from said location and pinpointing where the "mystery building" is.

EDIT: I don't think it is; there are large variations in the game image.

it probably is still called the jefferson motel since malc mentioned it and there both in the hd era

The motel is also named after the Jefferson area where it is located and as we know location names have passed from III into IV era (City names, Francis Int. Airport). so if Jefferson returns as an area and there is a motel there, then it could well be called the Jefferson Motel again.

Although game's rendition is more run-down, we can't deny it follows the same home standards.

The hotel may be a little generic (as there may be other many other hotels like this on real LA). But as this one was focused on video, maybe it's really Jefferson.

@ koeklin: So you were the one that found that house icon14.gif . Mind giving the location?

Anyways I'm not sure what those "twin" buildings are supposed to be. I looks like its supposed so be a random pair of buildings from Wilshire Boulevard (if my guess about those buildings being north of the apartments is correct). But all the twin buildings I see don't have beady little windows like those and aren't that short.

Edit: @ Death2Drugs: The Culver Hotel sort of looks like the darker short building in the cop scene. Doesn't have the angled corners though.

I would say it is definitely an alleyway and not a street.

Wannabe in LS

It's going to really capture the essence of LA like LC did with NYC, so that means I'm going to be watching films and tv shows and thinking "OMG, that looks like Los Santos!"

Probably been brought up before, but I think that the hill in the liquor scene looks like it could be the same (from a different angle) or similar to the hills in the windfarm shot. This could help place the liquor store.

It actually could be, and this actually hasn't been brought up (at least not that I know of). But I think there would be more hills, but that might be because of the liquor store blocking the view. I don't think it's the mountain from the hikers scene though. But this is plausible.

Probably takes inspiration from a number of alleys, combining the most interesting features. Tbh I think the alley in the trailer actually looks more life like than the real one, real one just looks too clean and sterile somehow.

So did anyone realized that they recorded the scenes for the trailer in places close to each other's?

Maybe that means that they were still working on the city itself in November, and they've must finished it already.

Actually, that's how I want ghettos to look like: clean and sterile. It just feels unrealistic to walk down a ghetto filled with boxes everywhere. Even Compton isn't that bad.

I'm guessing you really haven't been to compton... some parts are absolute sh*t.. but that pretty much goes for more than half of LA county.. including the valley

Someone REEEAAAALLLLLYYY needs to make a map construction/build update section on this thread, that way, when new info comes out, the people in this thread can simply update what the map will look like until [we] get a completed version.

Not only would this be helpful in figuring out the rest of the map, but it will also be helpful for people who have not been visiting this thread before; instead of scrolling through 10s of pages, there could just be a nice map or an update section listing detailed information on page one, but an updated map section should be included on Page 1 or something so [we] all know how much of the map is already known or can be estimated by the time it comes out.

I don't know; maybe it's just me. Would be helpful IMO, but "opinions are like assholes; everyone has one!"

Check out the OP.

There is a link to a map page.

Personnally, mine is up to date with the discoveries made in this thread. smile.gif

Hopefully LS looks like this at night...

I hope they get the lights to look right at night. Lights always looked dull in the old GTA games. It never looked very bright. Everything was dark and lonely.
