Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

Recommended Posts

I only have one question...

When do we get to see the aqua ducts?

They're mostly all I care for, too much fun and too many movie references to be missed out on.

This photo shows 4th street bridge, which is right above the Los Angeles River or "Aquaducts". biggrin.gif

Here's a quick map I did based on the trailer and on the geography of Los Angeles.

Keep in mind that this is a very long shot and is probably 90% wrong.

Feel free to add things I may have missed wink.gif

would the wind farm BE on that specific part of the mountains though? I am just posing the question if that would be the ideal place for the wind farm?

Unless its mimicking the real life location of a wind farm which may already exist?

I believe it is mimicking the wind farm in Palm Springs, East of LA along I-10

Key Club and Whiskey A Go-Go are about 3 blocks away from each other in real life.  Here, they're right next to each other.  Hopefully, this will give a little more perspective as to the size aspect of Los Santos.

Well actually it's more of a case of just moving things around.

In real life the Roxy is between the two, and it wasn't cut from the game it's just further down the road, on the other side of the street.

Also you've got to love that little walk sign man. Swag.

Can you point it out to me? I looked around and couldn't find anything having to do with the Roxy.

Someone wanted to use the blimp as a central reference point but the problem is that it could be moving. One thing is for sure its always going to be facing the same direction which is south towards the coastline so it can be used.

Ive tried working out hopefully West and East coords. Mountains are in the north similar to real world California topography obviously.

I don't know if that works cause it seems as though the prevailings winds in LA come from the EAST/WEST or alternate around that pattern, so would that arrangement of wind farms be ideal placed with mountains if they are indeed north?

Why am I even so worried about some f*cking wind farms?

Although I think it helps with the with arrangement of the whole map - especially because I want to go mental around those mountains

here are some wind directions recorded, i know they old but shiittttt wind don't be moving around that does it? http://www.wrcc.dri.edu/htmlfiles/westwinddir.html

I tip my e-hat to you good sir!

I'm not one to be able to analyse the location as much, I've been in the vehicles section.

But you guys. cookie.gif

Awesome, I can't wait to take a look down there in GTA V. Even SA's rendition was pretty good.

Im wondering if the wind farm could be the other side of the mountains we see in the back ground of LS - making it the complete opposite of this pic, would indicate that the map was indeed huge.

whoaaaa that would mean that the city is sorrounded by mountains maybe? or that particular shot is from one side of those sorroundings hill in that map overlooking towards the other side?

It makes sense though since the mountains should be the most prominent thing in the city since....they are the biggest things there

Just done som google-fu and there is a massive wind farm 100 miles north of LA, which looks like the screen grab from the trailer.

Google map, street view this location CA-58 W

You can see a massive wind farm in the hills, if you follow the roads back to LA you go through small town's/Citys with quite alot of airports.

If someone else fancy's looking more into this, please do, im going to do more googling

To get there you would go through Mojave

*edit 2* That entire area seems to be literd with wind farms, desert and moutains colgate.gif

Windmills in real life point west and they seem to point west in this photo telling by the lighting. The yellow compass you made is wrong, if west and east are in the direction you have set then north has to be on the opposite side that you put. See http://www.memphis.edu/trac/images/Compass.jpg

Just messing around that location you gave me and I come across this;

got me thinking of railways? Not many people have mentioned trains/railways (Or I haven't seen them I do) - WE GON' HAVE SOME TRAINS ROUND LS OR WHAT YO?

Could this be what is depicted in the supposed "LV" freeway pic?

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=los+angeles+...38,,0,7.54&z=21

It's located near east LA on the Santa Ana Freeway on Interstate 5...Going up north on this freeway would lead you to the real Koreatown in Los Angeles.

I'm not convinced that's a motel. There is a communal pool (although it's empty in the trailer). It seems more like low-rent apartments to me.

LOTS of motels in California and probably lots of other places have communal pools. I know because I have lived in a few.

There is an airport with a Airplane boneyard in Mojave, still classed as South Cali to

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&safe=o...F-8&sa=N&tab=wl

So to sumerise I think the wind farm is actually over the moutains you can see right in the background with desert inbetween or past the windmills.

*if we do get as much variety as this landscape would offer then im over the idea of not getting the whole of SA and look forward to exploring GTA V, will do more resarch later.

This might be obvious but the house that is pictured when the guy says "So I bought a nice house..." looks like a typical house on top of the Hollywood Hills.

I'm not so sure that the house that's in the trailer is in Hollywood hills. I noticed when I watched the trailer there were the sound of Seagulls at that point in the trailer (re-watch if you like) so i'm pretty certain that the steap cliff side leads down to water, I think that's what is down there.

I have circled the cliffside and what I think is water.

p.s I know LA is right next to the sea so there's bound to be seagulls but I still think there's water down there smile.gif I also don't know fully what LA looks like so if there is water down there in real life, excuse me for being stupid lol!

This is seriously the stuff we should be analyzing for.

That map is fantastic. If we could map out a bunch of LS before the game comes out that'd

be spectacular sleuthing. I gave my own rough tries and could only situate a bunch of different

directions of looking at the center building, in relativity to the building in construction. whatsthat.gif

But whatever. You guys are doing a ten times better job!

This could be 1 of 3 things; Already said, useless, or extremely helpful.

But, I noticed in the scene where the police are chasing the red sports car, the building to the right appears to be the Mile High Club, the huge under-construction tower.

Does this scene help reveal anything for the map or not?

Here's what I have.

Red = What I believe is mountain.

Green = Unknown building.

Both buildings I don't know, thought they might be identifiable.

Yellow = Mile High Club?

Yes you're right how did I miss that? Feel like an idiot now.

Does that mean that most of LS is surrounded by mountainous regions? If so the coast line I imagine would only take up 1/4 of the land perimeter and the rest is the yosemite valley, desert and hills!

Great find cookie.gif , this must be near the coast on west side of the map? since these types of houses are likely to be nearer the city.

Ive been trying to plot the locations based on the movement of suns direction, it seem to me in the trailer its starts in the morning and ends in the evening with a few random time of day shots also but the general feel is that it centers around 1 LS day.

One thing I want to briefly mention before I head to bed is that a very common thing I've noticed with the buildings is there are many banks. You heard it here first from gifbrah. Banks will play a HUGE role in the game. Mark my words.

This is what I've suspected all along.

Great work guys!

Kudos for the Keys Club, the West Hollywood map, the LA Country Club (this is spot on) and the find about the wind farm and the house on the hills.

In my map, I put the wind farm on the north east because I found out that in real life, these things were located at the North and East of LA.

So it seemed like the right place but like I said, it's mainly speculation at this point and it's probably wrong.

Also, I now believe like some of you do, that the map is much bigger than what I draw and there are many more rurals area from the Nort-West to the East of Los Santos.

I'm away for the weekend so I'll update my map on monday with all your new findings. wink.gif

Keep up the good work fellas!

I been thinking the same thing, but whilst looking for a scale of LA i found this cartoonish map which would confirm the idea of it being sorrounded, or having mountains as a prominent feature in LS. Whether this map is even reliable is another thing.....

oh and check out the topography - if R* is trying to depict the place in real life, then.......this is gonna be absolutely mindblowingly huge
