Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

No that stadium is to the north of the city. It is based on the Hollywood Bowl if I'm not mistaken. And it isn't really a stadium it is actually a theater or stage.

That building is nothing we have seen.

 

I think a power station makes the most sense, and it seems like a lot of electrical lines run from that area (but could just be the wind farm)

The problem is some previews say that LS is 1/3 the size of the entire map. So it seems "accurate" to me.

 

But then again others are sure that it's 1/8.. so the countryside should be much larger.

I thought the previews said 1/8th of the map was the city? Also if you look at aerial views you should see that the Alamo Sea areas is at least as large as Los Santos is. You should check out the other maps on the first page. They have images to back up the way the map is structured, neat stuff.

Yeah I mentioned this a few pages ago, but everyone seems to have ignored it. CVG originally claimed 1/8, but in a more recent video item they mentioned 1/4. Also, to the last map: As said, you should take a look at the other mappers, there are quite a few things everybody agrees on. Your map seems a bit made-up, with some speculations. I would suggest to only map the areas we have seen, because that's were this thread is all about. I do appreciate the effort, though, and I like the blueprint style.

I think some people are going to be surprised how small the lake will look on the map. Yeah some people have drawn it as big as the city but we don't have much to go on.

If you look at the best-guess map mockups, the city does dominate the lower third of the map, but the actual city area is about 1/8 of the map area. I think people are describing the same thing differently.

I think I remember from one of the Epsilon propaganda letters/emails that they are based in Vinewood.

Can someone with some time on their hands make a map of all the major electricity pylons? i.e. directions of the wires? This will help us finalise some things that have little reference.

I checked through the building album at the beginning of the thread and I couldn't find the Beverly Hills Hotel anywhere. It would be odd for it not be in the Beverly Hills GTA version area but who knows.

This is a tough one.

 

I did look close to the Salton Sea and found the Spotlight 29 Casino in Coachella, which has a similar shape:

 

 

But other than this, there's nothing that catches my eyes. Furthermore, there's no sealed road access to this building, leading me to also think that this is a non-inhabited structure.

I made it. I've been creating for a while. I was working on the roads when they released the map section, so i've now had to rework a few roads... Well, and the map shape now too. Here's the whole map.

 

Props to you DuPz0r...That looks reeally good. Can definitely see the map being close to that.

Awesome map but I've got a question that pertains to this and a few of the other fan maps in this thread. Why do the two lakes only have outlet streams/rivers and no inlets? They all flow to the ocean meaning they are all outlets. IRL, inlet streams would flow into the lake from a source at higher elevations, like somewhere in the mountains, and none are depicted on these maps. Some of the streams in the game should probably be like this, unless Rockstar has suspended that part of reality. Also it's very rare IRL (I know of none) where a natural lake has more than one outflow. It's even more odd in the case of the man-made reservoir where one of the outflows is through a dam. I know the Alamo Sea creates a quandary being based on the Salton Sea, which is actually below sea level and has no outlets to the ocean, IRL. Mapmakers, is this something you've considered when making your maps? Is there evidence for multiple out flowing streams but none inflowing? Not trying to nitpick, just wondering if I've missed something because I've followed this thread pretty closely since its inception. Despite that one curiosity I think you guys are doing an awesome job that only fuels my excitement for the game even more.

Yeah, the inflows issue is bugging me too. In the case of the Alamo Sea, there would still be some space in the east... but around the reservoir, it's hard to imagine a lot of higher terrain.

 

@DuPz0r: Beautiful map! Some minor corrections: The three hills south of the Alamo Sea (Mt. X/Y/Z) are freestanding, i.e. not connected to the Vinewood Hills. And Grapeseed, judging by the postcard image, should be further west, closer to the Alamo River.

Is it just me or is the North sign heading towards North East? Then the map would be wrong. Or at least the part of it on which the sign is shown.

That's a highway? The map is so low quality it is hard to tell. I will change it around some today.

Yeah, if you follow it down you can see that it crosses over the main freeway that runs past downtown. The LS river is to the right, and is slightly wider.
