edit: didn't the first trailer begin in the building left to the crane?  Wait, never mind.  It seems as if this screenshot is right between the crane and the group of skyscrapers.  Is the group of skyscrapers considered downtown?

Is it Century City on the left?

Yes. Fox Plaza is that tall building almost directly above Franklin.

But in this picture, Century City is behind the buildings of Koreatown (Little Seoul)

Mick - everything that can be mapped - has been - its inevitable that the size of the city till come up once the fact that no one area of the city is that far from anywhere else. Or is it taboo to mention this ?

As you can see, people still find out things. Right when you say there was anything to point out.

Am i crazy or is there more than one golf course? In the bottom picture on the far right it is clear where it is positioned but in this other one trevor appears to be on the other side of the city next to what also looks like a golf course.

It looks to be a Golf Course, but then again a Baseball Field seems more likely seen as there's already a Golf Course near it.

This image is amazing. Just look how far away the observatory is from the W. Hollywood building while in the second picture it always looked like the W.H. building is right at the foothills of the observatory mountain. Funny how misleading the perspective can be.

Yeah the observatory is very high up, higher than the skyscrapers I think.

 

That 'golf course' in the Trevor pic could just be where some grass borders the of the dirt that he's driving on, but it does look well looked after.

Yeah I was actually thinking that as well. After all, the Salton sea is simply the runoff of the farmlands

The picture from the dam shows the most accurate view of the distance between the building and observatory which is why I posted it. With that in mind, what point are you trying to make?

Who else thinks this will be the damn best GTA map to date? It's the dream map I've always wanted. I thought San Andreas was good back in the day but my god, this time around, the mountains and everything are so much more life like and detailed. I'm sorry I don't have much to add to the thread but I love watching you guys come up with ideas. Thanks so much for making this wait so much more interesting. You guys are very smart.

The Zancudo River runs through Grapeseed.

judging the scale from a far away shot from above is not the same as how it will look when you're down in the city yourself.

 

But we are comparing two shots at similar distances and scales. This one:

It will take roughly the same amount of time to walk from the observatory to the airport as it will to walk from the Getalife building to the airport in LC

Yes, however, are the heights of the control towers of LSX (Los Santos) and Francis International comparable?

Such a comparison would be distorted because at higher altitudes the camera in GTA IV switches to a wider-angle "lens" to give a greater sense of height and distance. You can't compare sizes of anything between screenshots unless you know the field of view is the same in both shots.

Ahh I see now. Every new picture that comes out cast a new view of how big the city/map is.
