some1 should compare the 2 pics i posted earlier  because i dont know how to do it     and im sure it can help with  something   thanks  guys  for all the  ifo   GTA V  is gonna b epic !!!

Well, the two pics you posted demonstrate that R* made a replica of the muscle beach recreational center, but can't help much in building a map of the in-game Los Santos. Nice find anywa!

See first post.

Oooops my bad then, sorry! Grats to you, thenewguy1992, for spotting that. wink.gif

[AERIAL VIEW]

But... what about this? The reservoir is ((facing west anyway, but also)) quite high up, so... why don't we see it, and how does the highway continue? And where was this taken then?

I don't think Long Beach is East of East Los Angeles. I don't think Palos Verdes is ingame neither.

By the way... can we settle this one? That's post no. 5, longest outstanding question of this thread.

If this is not LSX Tower (which I'm convinced it is), then it's what exactly? Lighter color = larger distance, so this would be... a palm tree with a gigantic trunk? A distant highrise with a very high palm tree right in front of it?

That would be one hell of a palm tree... Ive always believed it was the control tower but forgot about it completely until you just mentioned it.

I made this map of LC without rivers to give you all the general idea of the possible size of LS. The leftover water in the rivers can account for the lakes and ponds that might be in the city.

I'm conviced, that lake seems to be the dam reservoir, not the salton lake, which is behind the vinewood mountain as I proposed in my first maps of the country side...

As for your other question, don't give up with your unified theory, that sign might be in the right place, but difficult to understand its position... and thank you to point me that out, about the bridge and not the mountain...

Hope this new map helps to understand different points of view, according to what I see, remember as always I could be wrong...

Notice I've updated the map... later i'll make a better version

edit> also the runway and (prision?) could be near to LS than we think... that map again it's wrong... but ive used to understand the position of the pictures

I think my one and only problem with your map is the placement of the dam, not necessarily it's reservoir, but I am 100% sure that the dam is directly NE of Los Santos (as shown by the only shot we have of the dam). Also, the highway leading NE out of the city is West of the dam, not the other way around. I think this screen shows what I mean.

I made some changes to dam area... still a mystery whats behind the dam, especially hows the reservoir shape...

RL reservoirs close to LA area has long shape through the canyons, maybe it's similar to that place as like i have in my map...

No, I'm not buying it wink.gif Simply because of this, shot B. In the image with the dam, you can see how high up the water level is. And that's constant. And with a reservoir, it's usually not like you just put a wall of rocks around it so that it doesn't spill, but it's rather situated in a gorge or canyon. And it has an inflow. From higher up. But there is no trace whatsoever of any of this in shot B.

In that image B, you can see a little hill (with the wind turbines), just behind that, the dam reservoir should be located, somewhat at the same sea level as the highway picture is, at this case, the entire place including the airstrip is NOT located at sea level as like Los Santos its in a higher ground....

The highway should cross the reservoir (a bridge or something), then the mountains down to LS valley...

I'm not getting it. You're proposing some rather major stuff, like a highway bridge across the reservoir, followed by slopes down to the city... just so that one single blurry screenshot of Franklin on a quad, with some water in the background, can be by the reservoir and not by the Alamo Sea? I don't see what we're gaining there, it's not that it explains any unsolved mystery. And even if it was absolutely necessary that Franklin was by the reservoir - aren't there countless other ways of putting him there that don't require large-scale terraforming?

Edit: Ah! I looked at your map again, and now I got it. It's not about Franklin at all. That whole operation or moving mountains, re-routing highways and raising large areas is necessary so that "Bay City" can be where you placed it. My argument remains the same though: Even if a lot of our theories about the map would totally depend on the structures in the background of the airstrip shot (the only sighting of "Bay City" so far) being part of a large, coastal, urban area - wouldn't it be much simpler just to put it somewhere else?

Where did "Bay City" come from? Am I missing something?

There was a sign for "Bay City Ave" in Trailer 2. I'm pretty sure it's just a street name though, and nothing more but I may be wrong.

Alright, where would you put bay city? Even as we discussed before, we are not 100% sure that's bay city, as many other suggested, those looked like farming silos

I proposed the Long beach skyline due its similarity of that thing... and tried to compose it at the same coastal urban area as like in RL Los Angeles area...

The places circled in red are known in the game, those in green are suspected, Palos Verdes and San Pedro its a must if they include Long beach, each places are somewhat related to each other and has coast which obviously the game will require lots of coastal scenes... The yellow circle is the LS docks, but those are close to the airport in game (not in RL), so where would you put Long beach in game, even if it should be next to the docks as like in RL? My proposal was to put first Palos Verdes in a corner, which somewhat its a long corner peninsula, then Long Beach, surrounded by land (as like a bay, so that comes in mind Bay City), that new city should be close to LS, as in RL its in the same urban area.

Well, I'd say there's plenty of room in the southeast.

That's what I was trying to say before: If anyone sees a good reason to move that airstrip around, it won't be me crying foul because of that small red sign. I personally don't see Bay City, but that's really just me, and that alone shouldn't keep you from trying out anything.

You guys are doing a damn good job! Ive been following you for a couple of days now and im impressed to say the least.

No doubt some people at R* have been watching this thread too, I wonder if they would release the map to show how close you guys are?

Anyway, wish I could contribute but you guys are way further than i could have ever got...keep up the great work, its awesome to see how far people can go with so little... icon14.gif

the mountain ranges are so damn expansive compared to the San Andreas 1 map.  wow

I agree, but this ain't San Andreas 2 bro.

yeah but its still the state of San Andreas. needed to compare it to the last one, so saying SA1 is fine

Call me dumb, but what is Bay City exactly? Is it Long Beach/Los Santos Port?

This is the only reference to Bay City that I know about:

What concerns me is according to gtamodeler his calculations the map will be no where near being as big as Rockstar market thus not as big as RDR, GTA IV and SA combined. Which would be a major let down.. Anyhow good work!

Thanks!

But dont worry. I think Rockstar said the truth about the Size.

I think that the Countryside will be at least 2times bigger then the city itself (maybe 3times bigger).

And Los Santos is one and a half the size of Liberty City (Roughly).

There was a guy who figured out the scale between RDR,SA,IV maps. on this forum... would be cool if someone can give me the link to that post.

To place it in 3D.

I was one of those people. A list of my theories is:

  • Roughly, the exterior area of GTAIV + RDR = GTASA, therefore GTASA + GTAIV + RDR = GTASA x 2, more or less.

  • GTASA and RDR have roughly equal rural area. GTASA and GTAIV have roughly equal urban area.

  • The total land surface area of the three maps, within any obstructing boundaries and without water, is about 21 square miles, of which GTA IV is one-sixth.

  • Fretting that bigger-than-ever interior, underwater, or underground area might subtract from exterior map area is silly because all of these games have such areas, and a given reason for making GTAV bigger was create more exterior area for airplanes.

Well I think you guys should start making your final bets on the map. If they do indeed follow the footsteps of GTA IV the map could be revealed in the not so distant future. So hopefully you guys can get all the loose ends tied up so that the comparison from this map to the real one is close.

Here you can look at my 3d map in realtime.

http://p3d.in/u75m9

Left Mous Button - Rotate

MMB - Zoom

RMb - Move side and up down.

The buildings in east LS are just placed to get a better feeling of this area. The rest of the builings are exactly the same i used for the camera matchmaking.

Personally im not going much deeper into research of Los Santos. The game will come very soon from now (i hope). So i am ready to place my bets. smile.gif

The idea is really nice and conversion is nearly great, but I just see the city from the bottom side of the map. If I want to rotate the map I don't see anything but a black area on the upside.

You should colorize it. Not with some HD textures, but simply colorize.
