I smell bullsh*t

That was me, sorry.

I contacted the user GTALeaks who believes he has "informaton", so I asked him to do a dummy map of the game and he sent me this:

http://i.imgur.com/ijPXk.png

(too big for forum page...)

Check it out and let me know your thoughts

I thought it was gonna be a 5000x5000 or bigger blurry scanned map xD Anyway, that would suggest we get two cities if SD is in, I'm liking it though, but it's to be seen if this is true.

Yeah, it seems interesting the idea of 2 islands etc... it could work, but the positioning of desert and countryside seems to be in very random spots. Is it even possible for 2 islands to be split, and the desert still continues on the other island? Unless it's a bridge across the San Andreas faultline or something tounge.gif

PS. I knew it was you, for god sakes get a shower!

I don't think it's the Bradbury. But then again, it goes too fast in the trailer and we can barely see anything.

About 811 Wilshire, it seems you got it right again. It's the closest match yet. Plus, it's close to its real life location.

I updated the first post wink.gif

oh my dear fido, things go fast...but nothing goes too fast for me, i think we can savely say it is the bradbury building theyve just remixed it for a bit colgate.gif

Another scene is the one with the burning car in front, behind the fire there are 2 buildings, that could help finding the actual location of that scene. The car is standing on the 2nd lane of that 4 or 5 lane freeway. Another thing i just noticed by reviewing this scene is, that the sign on the other side of the freeway is actually readable. At least at 2 frames it looks clear/detailed enough. I'll see if i can get a clearer picture out of it.

...

The first thing i'll do now is to look what that sign of that freeway says, in the burning car scene.

(frames used: 1)

Only 1 frame was used. There is still too much distortion and compression artifacts. The freeway number should be "2". The text above looks kinda like "Easlex", "Loslex", "EASIEL" or i don't know. Can you guys read something?

In that scene there is another sign right of the above sign. Since there is also only 1 frame available i didn't go any further into this.

May have an idea about freeways. Idk if someone pointed it out, but I notice the seance with the hobo with the sign, the freeway signs behind him, one showing a 2 and the background looks like downtown. the sign far behind him almost shows 'Exit' with number with the some writing with a seems to be a 5 on it. Maybe in the downtown area, 2 and 5 intercept each other, maybe just behind the hobo. I don't know if it a good help, but it is something

Clearly visible. "EAST", "2", "Del Perro Fwy" and "East Los Santos".

More than 10 frames used to get a clearer picture. The sign reads: "EXIT", unknown white, unknown text (Fairmont?, Vinewood?, i don't know), unknown text (i don't know), "right" arrow for "next exit", "1" (?), "Los Santos Fwy" (?) and "EXIT ONLY" (?). So again, can you guys read something?

And Bradbury Building has

  • a beveled corner like the GTA one
  • white signages over windows of the ground floor .
  • two kinds of doors (rounded top or not)

gifbrah could you add the bradbury building unless you disagree with our findings ofcourse, here's the pics you can use

but i dont know what font you used on those pics on the first page so maybe you can add it there/google maps.

another thing is this building. in this scene Ned luke comes from the 4th bridge direction passes it and then encounters the bradbury

building and the heron building. which makes sense because he would encounter them irl in that direction, it would just take a

lil longer. because this building looks slightly unique(the diagonal pillars, greenish colors, its kind of a complex) i thought it would

be pretty easy to find on birdseyeview but i just couldnt find the f*cker in the area north/north-west of the bridge. i also cant for the

life of me figure out what it says at the question mark.

the only building ive found thats in that area between the bridge and the other buildings is the pacific bank, has the greenish

windows and the lil trees around it. and also is a complex not just a standalone building. but its far from identical. the area is

not that big i really think this should be findable, assuming its near.

user posted image

maybe a clue as to where it is, is this pic. in the background we can see this sort of ribbon/ad tied between the two tree's?

and a thick blackline that almost looks like a rollercoaster, could as well be the freeway but its kind of steep for that.

1 frame later you can see a lot of poles what appear to be street lights of some sort. idk what do you guys see/recognize in this?

This topic has become something I check regularly now. Brilliant stuff smile.gif

The 3D mapping software earlier on in the thread made me think of something which is probably impossible but it would be amazing: if you could run the trailer through software that could identify repeating buildings and produce a map based on the video.

edit: My minor contribution to this topic! The jewellery store being robbed in the trailer is a take on this:

Regarding that blurry text on the building... it could be deblurred using some programs.

I've read studies about removing linear blur from images. Look at the example (left image: original. right image: removed motion blur)

If anyone knows a program that can do this that would be cool.

I know that Matlab can do a lot of things, and I even found a source code for deblurring the images, for Matlab. But unfortunately, I don't own that program.

So if anyone owns it, I'll send you the source code via PM (it's quite long to post it), and we can see if it can remove the blur from that text.

One more thing:

[enforcA], how do you get one clear image from many other images?

That program is called "Focus Magic" (http://www.focusmagic.com/). I tried it today, after 10 wasted image processings, i uninstalled it. (only 10 image processings available in the demo, that's just dumb marketing)

Photoshop can do it too via "smart sharpen", but it actually has its limits.

One more thing:

[enforcA], how do you get one clear image from many other images?

There are 2 major points that can affect (unfavorable) pixel appearance.

1. the motion blur (like in the Audi R8 scene)

2. the actual video compression (like the bad readable freeway sign in the background of the bum scene)

Since there was camera movement (camera movement together with a slightly change in perspective) and artefacts caused by video compression in that scene and i didn't want to spend more time on it, i just corrected the pixel appearance caused by video compression. It's just a standard Photoshop procedure, where you work with different layer overlay methods. (I "reversed" the camera movement and processed all images via different layer overlay methods, so everything was focused on that freeway sign, i didn't correct the change in perspective, since i only used a few images of that scene, where the change in perspective wasn't that decisive) Since human eyes (and with that the human brain) can recognize movement better, you could also use After Effects, by using motion tracking or manually by selecting the focus point you want focused and "reverse" the camera movement, so that the focus you selected stays on its position. It's really just standard stuff.

ps.: We could do a quick freeway mapping with the information about freeway 1 (Los Santos Fwy), 2 (Del Perro Fwy) and 5 (Los Puerta Fwy). Not like the maps that have been posted. More like a quick overview.

Hi everyone!

I'm getting excited by the prospect of GTA V coming next year - on the basis of one trailer... ...and all the hype on this forum! Having read a fair number of posts, I thought I would submit an image to provoke yet more discussion biggrin.gif

I think Rockstar will have a little fun with us and give a vaguely circular map to play in, not the much-fun-poked-at square shape...

user posted image

a key-

1 & 2 'endless' desert 3 'endless' ocean (a la GTA IV) 4 'endless' grassland/scrub

This would work in the same way as when you move away from the map in GTA IV - you 'travel' for 5 minutes in the 'wrong' direction, but if you do a 180 degree turn you return to the play area in, say, 30 seconds? This could also be be made more spicy by:

A Edwards Air Force Base / Dryden Flight Research Centre (jetpacks, anyone?) could enforce a no-fly / travel zone in the north of the map, and B Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base could control restricted land in the south east and supply a frigate to patrol the ocean...

Is the scale of this map possible by current console hardware? I'm sure Rockstar will do us proud by their map manipulation in any case. Whilst assembling this map (thankyou, google) I noticed some other things... a hunting area in Moreno Valley. several regional airports. 'El Mirage' Off-road vehicle recreation area. and many others! Let me know your feedback, forum people!

ps. I've posted this in 'wishlist' , 'mapping' and 'fan-art' as it would seem to fit all three...

So, i think it is like you guys (Gifbrah and Fido_le_muet; page 26) wrote.

- "Exit 2A"

- "Vinewood" or "Fairmont"

- "Downtown"

- right arrow

- "(Freeway 1) Los Santos Fwy"

- "Exit Only"

From the freeway scene with the Luxe Hotel:

We all know the clearly visible sign in front ("SOUTH", "Los Puerta Fwy", "LEFT LANE"; "Downtown", "Little Seoul", 1 down arrow; "NORTH", "(Freeway 5) Los Puerta Fwy", 2 down arrows), so this is just to add more details to the information we have about how the freeway could continue there.

1. The left sign in the background has an arrow going to the left.

2. The left sign has an "Exit Only" sign under it just like the right sign. So it really looks like the freeway splits into South- and North-going freeway number 5 Los Puerta Fwy.

3. Above the left sign there is another sign far behind. It should be the sign from the crossing/bridged freeway.

4. Posted on page 22: you could see the crossing/bridged freeway splitting into 1 way going down to the actual freeway and 1 way going - bridged - straight ahead. (right side of the older guy overlooking the city and left side of the white car in front; the actual split was hidden)

5. One thing i don't know has to do with the split (point 1. and 2.). It is splitting there into South-and North-going. Since the middle lane is for "Downtown" and "Little Seoul", the freeway should also continue going straight ahead. (3 splits: left (south), straight ahead (downtown, little seoul), right (north)) Looking at the scene with the old guy overlooking the city, these 3 splits look a bit weird. (see the following picture in comparison with the pictures posted on page 22)

Seeing all the nightclubs that are pretty accurately spoofed gives me the feeling that the night life and club culture will play a big role in V. Similar to TBOGT.

Rodeo Drive is just like a normal street, but that little entrance is actually just a pedestrian walkway with a few shops and a couple of restaurants if I remember it well.

One thing I want to briefly mention before I head to bed is that a very common thing I've noticed with the buildings is there are many banks.  You heard it here first from gifbrah.  Banks will play a HUGE role in the game.  Mark my words.

just an alternative search method that turned out to be interesting. i just zoomed in the area around the bridge on 4th street/the other buildings weve found and just searched "Bank". it definitely shows the unique buildings of the area(essentially what were looking for) so you are most likely to find landmarks/buildings. you can obviously apply it to other types of buildings like clubs/hospitals, etc. havent found what im looking for yet but got some close calls smile.gif

This is an addition to my previous post about the freeway intersection/interchange (page 27):

All the images are fixed to the "tunnel" in terms of focus.

(via "normal" layer mode)

In my previous post i thought it would be a bridged part of the freeway with an other part going through it underneath via a short tunnel. After reviewing this scene with 22 images merged to 1, it looks like there are 2 fences standing on this darker part (the one i thought it would be a short tunnel). This can be better seen on the "multiply" image below.

user posted image

(via "lighten" layer mode, not the best mode for this purpose, since "lighten" only adds brighter pixels, it doesn't mixture the #xxxxxx color information like the normal layer blend mode does or the multiply/screen/etc. mode, so don't expect too much from this image, you'll see what i mean in the next image, where the "car" is pictured correctly)

user posted image

(via "multiply" layer mode)

Next to the 2 fences, between the fences and the older guy, the blue thing looks like a car, parking there.

There are actually 2 possibilities:

1. The darker freeway is on ground level just like the fences and the car.

2. The darker freeway is above ground level and the fences are standing directly at the entrance of that small tunnel. The car would then stand next to a wall parking.

I personally think it is possibility number 2. Why? Because the part where the palm trees stand - in front of the tunnel and the curved road - looks like a little slope.

...

More things:

(I'll make it short, because i need some sleep.)

- the 2 sides of the freeway are clearly visible if i am correct (light grey and dark grey), where the darker side is on a higher level than the lighter side

- the darker side shows 4 lanes; the lighter side shows 2 lanes in the image (other lanes might be hidden or going somewhere else)

- the darker freeway side looks like it would split there, 2 lanes going straight ahead on the same level and 2 lanes going right - curved and upwards

- notice the freeway sign next to the above mentioned possible split

- notice the other smaller road going left, next to the construction site, on ground level, in front of the bridged freeway
