Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

The more I update my own map of the GTA V area with new information/screens the more disappointed I become. Since the US bank tower seems to be a center piece in this map I was able to calculate the distance between the tower and the hills/mountains and compared this to the map of GTA IV. Please note that I used the size of the footprint of GTA IV buildings. The biggest stretch (dam to tower) is approximately the same distance as liberty island to the top right outer edge (ocean) of the IV map. Making V's Los Santos 3/4 of the IV map (excluding the southern parts since we havn't seen them).

In fact the entire map will be at most 6 by 6 miles in size - 36 sq miles would be the upper limit.

I once made this map of Liberty City in IV:

 

 

Click to see original size. It's 1 pixel per square meter, i.e. about 3.3 by 2.3 miles, or 7.5 square miles. Most of it is water.

 

If you ask me, 5 times that, at the same level of detail, would be quite amazing.

Im sorry to continue down this avenue but why do R* insist of including 800m long runways...it looks ridiculous in comparision to wide body jets.

 

 

Just make it say 1500m and try to equate it with reality .

Because having them longer would like take away space for 1 or even 2 neighborhoods. I'd rather have some more variety than a realistic length of runways.

 

Could the big ass (and beautiful) image above be made into a link or thumbnail? Screws up the entire thread display for me.

Although I appreciate the skill that has been used to put together the map from screenshot and the trailer, the more I see - the more I am saddened.

 

LS is looking like it is a mere 3-4 sq miles...a pitiful town sized LA. For the love of christ , R* could of put together something a little 'smarter'. Estates of

many square miles that you could borderline get lost in would of been nice. A huge industrial area..full of hundreds of medium detail ( low memory usage) identikit warehouses. Give us a bit of SPACE FFS !.... True Crime managed it on the PS2...yes it wasnt a good game but it gave a good feeling of a huge space.

 

The lowest common denominator , impatient generation will cry that it would be 'boring'...but a 4 sq mile LS is pitiful ,...utterly pitiful. We WILL be able to cross the entire

city in 2 minutes on a highway. The CBD is a severly cut down version of the real thing. LS in SA had as many buildings.

 

Check out my post history..maybe some of you will recall i am not a troll.,...and not a 'Zee' type character. Just disappointed at R* getting away with something that could of been fairly easy to rectify. The countryside is nice etc etc..but the city man...damn its just small.

I doubt that rockstar would call the whole map los santos if the city would take 4 square miles. The city itself should be big. Whole map can have 35 square miles so I think that los santos will have 9 or 10 square miles.

The hobo scene : north of Downtown near the Los Angeles City Hall. It isn't Westin Bonnaventure hotel behind him, because the window are not squares.

The Freeway is Del Perro Fwy (East L.S to Del Perro)

the first pic displays also Del Perro Fwy, the hobo is near R of GameinformeR in the right bottom.

So if the Hobo is at the gameinformer "R", and we're looking towards the gameinformer "G" -- which definitely fits with the supposed downtown grid -- then why is the sun hanging so low in the southern sky?

Just an idea: as per this map, there are two California Plaza towers. We still don't have any good shots of them. What if they have the same facade, and Michael is descending tower one (north), while the hobo stands near tower two, one block further south, and the camera is facing west?

I was thinking in the picture were we see the supposed prison, we get a good long look to the north right?

 

It looks as if the map stretches quite far that way.. And I don't think the desert is goint to be that way..

 

In the GI cover story they say that Trevor is from Blaine County think the Area around Salton Sea, well Salton Sea is south of LA.

 

So if GTA V is staying some what true to the SOCAL geography, then I think we have a large chunk of map even after Southern Los Santos yet to be seen.

So if GTA V is staying some what true to the SOCAL geography, then I think we have a large chunk of map even after Southern Los Santos yet to be seen.

If you look at google earth, the desert is on the other side of the mountains (towards the east).

And one more thing. Here is the hobo shot (1), and here is the aerial view (2). If in (1) we were looking from "R" to "G" in (2), then what happened to the on-ramp in (2)? Shouldn't it be visible in (1)? I guess it also depends on what the building on the right edge of (1) is. The Mellon Bank Center in (2)? Similar texture? Sure. Same texture? Actually not. Now in (2), if you rotate the Mellon Bank Center 90 degrees counter-clockwise... would the texture match? I actually think so. If I'm correct -- I could very well be not -- then the overpass in (1) would be the one that begins in the top left corner of (2).

Fido_le_muet, in 32 North Downtown, I found two more buildings you can mark up. Take a look at 39 North Downtown. There's a distinctive building in the center of the image, with a flat grey roof, a red rim below that, and 9 black multi-story window elements. You'll find the same building in 32 North Downtown, just follow the upper edge of the black desktop computer. Now you can make out the Green Room and the Hollywood Boulevard Stores, right behind.

One interesting yet unidentified building is in the "24 Downtown" screenshot, near the Westin -- the Beverly Center kind of points at it. It looks a bit like Capitol Records, but it's neither that nor the building on "27 Vinewood Hills" once mistaken for Capitol Records. Any ideas?

I hate this building ! We have clear shot of it but impossible to link with a real one !

It does look like the Lipstick Building but that one is in New York sooooo....
