Mapping Los Santos! Building/landmark analysis

Sorry for the stretch.... but what do you think this is?  I made a little graphic to give my opinion.

IDK but GI said there's an army base or a sh*t like that so maybe it's that, even if it's not in the city. The towers all around makes me think it could be that.

There is a huge map so why did they put military base nearby the Los Santos area? It would be some living area or so.. Is there anybody from LA who can recognize that place?

I actually think it's a prison to be honest.

 

How epic would it be if there was a military base inside Mt. Chiliad.

I was thinking about Hollywood reservoir but that doesnt look like this one.

I'm glad this thread is here. The rest of the forum is just a bunch of drama queens who would've complained about the game being too much the same if it hadn't been taken in the direction it's been taken and vice versa. This place is much more constructive.

I think the military base will be much further away from the city, maybe in the desert. I think it will probably be in a more secluded and remote location than Area 69 in SA too.

Map is coming along nicely.

Currently reworking the areas of Beverly Hills and North Los Santos.

Will you also add the countryside areas and roads to the map?

 

In the screen with Trevor quadbiking, it looks like U.S. Highways/Roads will be in the game. Just saying.

It's either Burbank, Northwood, Simi Valley, or some suburban areas. In real life LA, behind the Hollywood sign hill, there is a plain full of suburbs and a small city, then behind those are mountains. To the northwest is Thousand Oaks.

So in all honestly, that should not be a prison nor a base. It should be a suburb(s) and maybe a new town.

Look it up on google maps, the areas directly north of LA.

That is obviously a prison based on construction. High walls, evenly spaced guard towers, a central building, a water tower. Think Shawshank Redemption and you'll see it too. But for the record I'm calling this one as a prison. Military bases have fences with keep out signs, not high stone walls.

You have so much content to be able to make a good map of LA and an approximation of the entire map and trailer 2 is coming soon.

 

In that pic we can see how huge is the map, this is just north of LS and I thin we can see a small part of Mt Chiliad that will be fully explorable, so imagine the size, there will be something behind it!

and it's just the north!

 

Aaron Garbut said that the rendering distance of GTAIV was 1.5 miles and that in GTA V will be many many miles!

Jesus, the mountain in the top left just dwarves the Vinewood mountain, and that in itself looks very tall.

Yep, although i'm not sure there'll be endless mountains/desert

They said you can see even the mountains from the one end to the other end. That means mountains are located near the end of the map. I doubt there will be an endless desert.

 

Has someone pointed out, yet, that Houser or someone of the design team said you have to zoom out nearly 1 mile into a satellite view for seeing the shadows of the clouds etc. and seeing the whole map with the city, it's mountains and deserts.

How far away was the satellite view from the older games? Then we can give the most accurate prediction how big the map will be.

I'm almost done with my work day so here's the map so far.

It is a work in progress so many things are still missing.

 

So far, I did the following :

- new buildings around Hollywood and Sunset Boulevard

- new buildings around Venice Beach

- the Hollywood Bowl

- the freeway going north of the city into the countryside

- the whole district north of Downtown

- relocated the Vinewood Sign

- relocated the Observatory

- changed the layout of the map (reduced the south portion and modified the boundaries of the ocean and the hills)

No, not North East... directly east, the sun sets in the west. And the desert terrain points at it being the San Gabriel Reservoir. San Gabriel Reservoir would be geographically correct as well.

 

Edit: Nevermind, I'm a dumbass, San Gabriel Dam, which part of the Morris Reservoir...

 

Edit 2: sh*t, San Gabriel reservoir is above the morris reservoir, it feeds the Morris Reservoir.
