Okay, I looked at the HD trailer.

user posted image

Thats strange. i can roughly make out a building that looks like City Hall on the right side of Downtown. so im guessing city hall is to the east of downtown, as it is in real life. But then that would mean Hollywood in Los Santos is east of Downtown, when it's far west of Downtown in real life. and Hollywood seems to be MUCH closer to downtown than it is in real life. hmm.

It's Los Santos not Los Angeles wow.gif ANYTHING don't have to be smiliar to LA.

You guys are getting a bit over your head the trailer barely showed where everything will be placed except some places.

And if you ask me the trailer shows barley where everything will be. But hopefully its close to real life but with rockstar stores.

This probably what the game would look like at night

Here's my attempt. Anything in brackets is using real-life name, anything with an ? is 'educated' guesswork.

I put Palos Verdes in because on the shot from behind the plane heading towards downtown there is an area of high ground to the left of the image that would be towards the south of the city.

I've also put in where I think the positions of 5 shots from the trailer are that I used to come up with this layout.

Edit: just realised I put HS instead of VS for the Vinewood sign on the map. Can't think why...

Like me and others said, it would be good to regroup all the data/screens/maps we have in the first post.

Now I know you have computer issues Gifbrah but I hope you can still do it. If you can't, I can do it. Just say the word.

I now believe we don't have many much to discover about this first trailer. I guess it's time to get our findings in order and do a better presentation of things.

I'm getting a bit worried that there making the landscape too realistic like IV don't get me wrong liberty city looked great, it just got boring to traverse after some time same thing happened with LA in L.A.N. hopefully they remember that its a Game and focus equally on making the map fun aswell as making it beautiful

Very good work here! cookie.gifcookie.gifcookie.gif for Gifbrah & Fido_le_muet!

I've been searching high und low for the weird building that could help lay down part of the Interstate 5 in the game map. No luck so far; whilst the exterior of the building is quite unique, I haven't found a perfect match on Google Earth yet (buildings enabled of course - which is a great tool for this kind of map-making). I haven't found a match in GTA San Andreas either, although a lot of other buildings mentioned in this thread are there. I'll keep looking with my jetpack.

One other thing I noticed in the trailer was the water that seems quite close to the main hub of skyscrapers, inc. the U.S. Bank alternative, the incomplete construction, etc. The ripple reflections can be seen in the

. Maybe the coast is closer to the financial district/Commerce. Does this make sense?

That is all.

Hey,

i don't really know if this will help you, but you could take a look at the post from a different thread: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...entry1060860304 , your "weird building" is marked with orange lines in the 2nd and 3rd picture of the marked pictures. edit: ps.: just in case if you were looking for its real life counterpart instead, i'll search for it now

And about the other thing with the water being very close to the los santos skyline, i share your thoughts. It can be seen multiple times in the trailer. Also for example in the 1st picture from the post i mentioned above. There is some boat-like thing (with a single light source) crossing the inshore waters. It really feels very close to each other (the skyline and the inshore waters).

I was looking at the GTA iv map and it seems to be about 40 blocks across. When you look at the widest angle shots from the trailer the city looks to be about the same maybe a little more spread out and less dense. Any one want to confirm this?

If you look at the other areas seen in the shot you may notice that there are sparkling lights coming from moving cars. I don't think that is a body of water, but just the lights from traffic that appears when you are at a distance.

Two questions for you guys;

1. In the very first frame with the blue convertible, after the BUGSTARS the city can be seen on the far left, very faintly, but with some distinctive shape, anyone able to map out where these 2 areas are?

2. In the Police Cruiser chase scene, right after the Red convertible hits the Blue coupe, there appears to be a bridge support to the far right, anyone know what one this is?

edit: just for a better overview i added the in-game/trailer picture of that building to this post

As i promised before, i'll search for that "weird building" and i did.

Here is the best match:

Only difference is the triangle goes down, while the in-game version goes up, the overall shape is cubic, while the in-game version is polygonal.

Everything else, the shape of the roof, the shape of the side, the shape of the windows with these little things in between, the shape of the lower part with its dark grey colored columns, the fact, that there is a triangle and the wall stands out a bit, is all the same. (edit: even the color pattern of that front is the same)

The building is located at:

1020 South Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA, United States

near the intersection (crossroads) West Olympic Boulevard

and next to it there is the Harbor Freeway, that goes along with the S Figueroa Street

edit: so im 100% sure your "weird building" is the R* version of the real life "LUXE City Center Hotel" (http://www.luxecitycenter.com/)

Cheeky kunt, that's not water, it's just traffic and lights of houses at night. We saw the city skyscrapers from many angles and water was nowhere near them.

If you really can access all the places in this trailer (including the entire mountain), then this is looking like a very very very large map.

I'm highly doubting the mountain, it's the only scene with moving clouds, it feels out of game.

ive really tried to check this but its really hard to distinguish wether its cars or water.. but from what i see it looks more like water but its more likely its cars and houses.

I think they made the map using this

They won't have, games designers don't use tools like that. They create each asset individually from the cars to pedestrians, the buildings to the trees.

I know which one you mean, the "Fairmont Miramar Hotel".

But believe me, its structure is completely different to the one seen in the trailer. The real life counterpart to the one shown in the trailer is the "LUXE City Center Hotel" (http://www.luxecitycenter.com/).

Every little detail (i mentioned in the post above) fits perfectly. The only major differences are the triangle going down, not up, and the block shape of the whole building is polygonal in the trailer instead of just being a simple cubic block shape like it's in real life. Since it is the R* version of it, this is all plausible to a fairly high degree.

0:56 in the trailer.

Anyone that have a clue where that could be? Does it represent a real place or is it just something Rockstar have made up? It do looks like there's some kind of desert or something in the background.

I would suggest it's not whether it's real of not that is important. See my post in http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=490646&st=2940 where I suggest this is someway to the east/south east of Los Santos the other side of the mountains. Which I think has just doubled the size of the map....

Devs use 3ds Max and schematics to draw and create their maps and not some auto-generate types of programs.
