What would you guys say the approximate square mileage is on this map?

He posted this image - http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/1215/lcvsls.jpg

so that would make the map approximately 22 square miles of land.

Thanks for the estimate.

We can not even be sure if it is an airport. It doesnt make sense to put the runaway towards the mointain, does it? wink.gif

Runways are flat not angled at 10-15 degrees.

Usually. But there are more than a handfull of airports which are short, towards mountains, sea, houses. Which are angled, mildly or like a big huge slope.

See youtube and search the most dangerous airports, use FlightGear, or navigate here: http://melbel.hubpages.com/hub/Most-Dangerous-Airports

Btw., why the frick is that screenshot fun topic pinned but not this? Makes no sense for me.

So according to this map it should be 6x Liberty City, if I see correctly.

Full res version of this screen:

It shows off a bit more of the mountains. It might help you guys pin point where it was taken.

Look at the mountains top left side of this picture they match ^^

user posted image

So where do we place the Trevor driving shot, on the east coast driving south?

Now that there is an obvious mountain on the right, it seems the match we saw before was not right and more likely the trevor picture is on the far side of the north east range.

Was the silo(in between the police cars in the background) already visible in the magazine screenshot?

Anyways, the silo may be part of a farm so perhaps the grapeseed farm is close to the above screenshots location.

There may be numerous farms spread around the countryside though.

On the upper screen there are policemen standing outside of the car, as in some other screens too. Is this usual in the US? When does this occur and what is the meaning? With a high wanted level chase?

No, that is not typical. I've never seen it, and I'm in my 40's. I think you might see that in situations where tactical police officers are being moved into tense situations like hostage or shootout situations. And they wouldn't be moving at highway speeds since hanging on would be difficult and shooting almost impossible. Seems like it's a Rockstar exaggeration to make police vehicles fun to ram into and send those guys flying.

Strictly in the movies, think of chases in movies where people need to move from car to car. That's what those cops are doing, they will pull you out of the car while you drive I bet.

I've seen that in those DEA reality shows. They go pretty fast pulling up to the location of the drug bust.

I wonder if they'll try to jump on your car, kinda like in IV and SA when they hang onto the back.

That mountain at the back of the Sabre GT image resembles Mt Pointy. Although only photoshop will tell. lol. That mountain could be the mid sized mountain between Mt Pointy and the one far North West, at the left of the lighthouse. We can't see it clearly in the second picture, but it's on the left.

Military base seems to be a good fit for Naval Base Ventura County/ Point Mugu.

user posted image

The Zancudo river looks like it's heading into a wetlands area with the little shallow pools alongside the river in the Trevor trailer.

Wow that wetland terrain in that picture matches what we saw in Trevor's trailer quite well. This also covers the wetlands mentioned in that interview last November. Nice work man.

I was hoping we'd get a military based on Edwards AFB or maybe Camp Pendleton for that Area 69 desert base nostalgia. Oh well, this base will be cool too.

I'm positive this is a match. The location, air force base and wetlands are north of the Santa Monica Mts just like in the game. I always knew it wasn't a golf course haha.

Y'all would be more appropriate because all deviating map theories are in the same boat?

S'what I'm saying, yes.

Disparaging the LP theory by grouping it with the baseless LV, SF, Bay City theories?

Right where it belongs, until we see some proof.

There have been many detailed posts that support the theories of Los Puerta much more than those of LV and SF.  Anyone who knows a thing or two about video editing and/film knows that content is never irrelevant when centered on the screen as "Los Puerta" was 00:31 to 00:33 in trailer one.  This is especially the case when the camera continuously zooms onto that content as it did in that trailer.  This supports LP's significance and that it isn't "some Spanish written on a sign".

LOL. Are you trolling?

It says "Los Puerta Fwy". As in freeway. As in, "Los Puerta" is the name of the freeway. Not a city. If there is a city called Los Puerta, we don't have even a shred of evidence for its existence.

Going on about rhetorical techniques and cinematic interpretations but your theory is the same old baseless bullsh*t... yeah, you have to be trolling. Or a dumbass. Do us a favor and let us know which.

Trolling or a dumb ass because I disagreeing with you without resulting to name calling? It must be that time of the month for you. Your logic is all over the place right now. This is the kind of middle school sh*t that made me take a brake from the V section until more info came out. lol.gif

San Diego Freeway

Los Puerta Freeway

user posted image

If it's not in the game, then so be it. But it's a far from baseless theory. Especially considering that out of 100+ screens and multiple trailers, R* just so happens to not show what's directly E or SE of Los Santos. We've seen no land, no water, no nothing from that region. That just so happens to be the direction of the LP Freeway, its real life counterpart (San Diego Freeway), and the city of San Diego IRL. Just a coincidence right?

...and don't give me that "R* said" bullsh*t because R* has contradicted themselves time and time again. Don't give me that "entire city...fitting on the map" BS either because if R* can get away with making LS 1/8 of the map then they could fit a smaller city easily. Not 100% expecting it, but it's a possibility.

TELL EM!!! I've been saying San Diego is in the game for a while.

There is a problem with your logic sir,

Interstate 5 is called the "San Diego Freeway" only when heading southbound towards San Diego.

However, when heading northbound (as shown in the trailer), it is known as the "Santa Ana Freeway" which does hint at another city, one that is less than an hour south of LA, Santa Ana. Located in scenic Orange County.

Las Puerta, when translated means "the Door" in spanish, though it is similar to the spanish spelling of port "el Puerto" given that in R*'s america the citizens don't tend to give a f*ck about proper grammar when it comes to other languages and given the fact that it's the only north/south running freeway we've seen so far, it's safe to assume that this is the Los Santos Version of L.A.'s 405 Harbour Freeway with Las Puerta not being a San Diego type city, but more likely a Port of Los Angeles/Long Beach type city.

or maybe Los Santos is closer to the mexican border than real life LA

6 x 6.25 is 37.5 sq miles. That's bigger than what we are expecting colgate.gif

However, i don't think that's right. Because it's SA + RDR + IV = 27.5 sq miles which is MASSIVE as it is. Unless somehow they actually include RDR's unplayable area which then = 32 sq miles.

SA + RDR + IV is almost the exact same as 3x RDR, so they definitely only meant the playable area of RDR.

Nope. RDR's playable area was 5.5 sq miles i think, so 5.5 x 3.5 = 19.25

Nope. RDR's playable area was 5.5 sq miles i think, so 5.5 x 3.5 = 19.25

SA = 13.9 sq miles

RDR = 5.5

IV = 6.25 (round it to 6.3)

= 27.5

This means 3.5 x bigger than RDR is contradicting the three maps put together. They said its bigger than IV, RDR and SA put together so if you add it, it's 27.5 while the other one is heavily contradicting as it is only 19.25. So it's DEFINITELY including RDR's unplayable area.

Oops, I meant to say its the same as 5x RDR, not 3.5x. 5x RDR = 27.5 sq miles, which is exactly the size of the 3 maps put together.

So, the unplayable areas of RDR are definitely NOT included in the size estimate. But we should take this to the size thread rather than the mapping thread.

Not that I care, but i thought this wasnt a size thread. Some of the peeps in here making the maps get pretty upset when this gets brought up. But as far as that whole 3.5 times RDR and the bigger than all of them combined thing goes its tough to call. I dont think its anything to worry about though. It will be as big as it needs to be

You guys already seen this? It's from the GamesTM Preview, it was posted on another topic.

This would be believable if the writer knew anything about the geography of LA. For a start Californa plaza is in the north-eastern part of downtown LA, which is also misplaced on the map, a few miles down the river from where it actually is. Santa Monica pier is labelled as way south of where it actually is too. And as for the Tehachapi wind farm location... well, they're only out by about 100 kilometers.

Well..... well no.

It's almost as if you know what you've done wrong but you're ignoring it.

Why would one "pair" of mountains still be left and right of each other on the same side, but the other pair is round the other way?

Oops.
