Mainland Marauder
What if you climbed the mountain, got to the other side and all you saw was an endless expanse of strip malls and subdivisions that looked exactly the same? Hey, we're going for a realistic take on SoCal, right? "You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be." CM_Kimmy
I personally believe you will be able to drive through the moutains, a bit like the tunnel shown in the original san andreas which goes between san fiero and the highway towards the bone county
cherrycola
If the mountain is unpassable, there would have to be invisible walls in the ocean as well. Not just far out in the ocean, but on each side of the city.

Slamman
I'm thinking similar to the mountain in RDR where you fight Dutch and save Jack from the bear. There's a part you can go up, but there's no way to pass and there's nothing, so to speak, on the other side. but add in the fact of airplanes/helicopters. would there be an invisible wall? That wall was not height restrictive, nor did it follow the graphical terrain I pointed this out in previous topics, there were glitches allowing someone to overcome that barrier, so much so that Rockstar added glitch patches to Multiplayer, and some were removed too, oddly! hahaha One of my videos opposite thieves landing shows the barrier in play Edited November 3, 2011 by Slamman
NYC PATROL
They've said the map will be the biggest R* developers ever made. So I'm almost 100% sure that you'll be able to see what's behind that mountain. Besides, it's GTA you know. No such things as "You can't pass this road, please go back". R* never truly confirmed the biggest map ever. They just said "the largest and ambitious game created by R* yet" judging from the trailer Los Santos does look freakin' huge (And we havent even seen the full extent of it yet tbh) Hopefully R* knows what they are doing with this 1 City philosophy.... Death_Blade
When they say "most ambitious project", thats starting to worry me. Ambition usually leads to failure and screw ups. That mountain looks pretty fake to me. I have a bad feeling we wont be climbing that anytime soon.
pdbq
my guess is yes because there is the sea, unless there are walls which is unlikely, then you will be able to get round it by boat. Also, fly over it or around, im sure theirs something behind it

ArienMC
If they are only having one city, I bet my ass you can't go over the mountain. Half of the map will be endless ocean, and the other half will be un passable mountains. I hope I'm wrong though. But if you could get to the top, what the hell would be on the other side? I'm just saying that since the water in GTA V is an ocean, not a lake, and you can enter it, like with a boat, you can't just "frame" the map with mountains like in RDR. You would need invisible walls as well, to stop you from going too far off the side of the mountain.
CapitolLimited
If I were to design the game, I would allow the Mountains to be hiked up (adding some easter eggs / activities to do while you trek up there), and on the other end, infinite desert. That way, there's enough space for you to fly your jet around and to dogfight, but won't limit the amount of details in the city.

I'd been trying to relocated my RDR videos since the glitches were a lot of fun, and exploring every inch of the map, so yeah, Hodgey, it's Gulliver's Travels GTA STYLE, Homey! I just wonder how Rockstar will try and circumvent such things? Patching did work, somewhat Edited November 3, 2011 by Slamman

RED_
I doubt it very much, the mountain looks giant at the top section doesn't look real to me. I think we will have a few roads around it, like the dirt road near the wind farm in the trailer but we won't be able to scale it. I think those 3 in the trailer are the furthest we are going to get. If you have a mountain like that and you make it scale-able what are you going to put behind it? It would be stupid to instantly see a sea behind it, doesn't look right at all. You would have to build more land, a lot more land, and then turn into sort of a cliff face. Looks like it's just part of the scenery. This means invisible walls which is a big let down but oh well. Have to life with it.

That could actually work, but the beach/shoreline between the ocean and the desert would go on forever as well, in a straight line. It would look very strange. Well I think that's also to do with R*'s blurring of far off objects and don't forget, remember how IV looked in the first trailers? They did alot more tinkering with the map and vehicles. It's the very first trailer, so I'm not worried. I am wondering what's behind it though, I have my doubts about if SF is sitting behind it but then this was a teaser trailer to entice us and make us wonder. JoshGTAfreak
I don't know why everyone cares about this mountain so much. I mean, it will be great if it's able to be to scaled. Officer Tenpenny is a bad man
Do you think we can traverse this mountain fully? -or- Will it, to a certain extent, be unpassable, or have some invisible wall like in RDR? Good point! I dont want an invisble wall. but i'm not bothered if some is un accesible as long as there is a rally track down the mountain

xAtreyux
In GTA IV it officially took 34 minutes to get to the end of the ocean in a boat and then you just die I'm pretty sure this will be the same for GTA V. Huge Space!

If not, meh, I'll just go crazy in the city like I'm supposed to I'm not sure actually. I think most of us that are focusing on the mountain are just tired of the whole city scene; after all, we've been stuck in Liberty City for four years now. I guess that the mountain being inaccessible wouldn't be that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but for those of us country/desert lovers, it'll be the second major blow (after hearing that Los Santos is the only major city, although that didn't really bother me personally).
