hey guys, i didn't see another thread about this topic but i was woundering. do you guys like Damage system that was in GTA iv? personally i wish it was a little stronger. i want damage to be harder then in GTA IV. for example if you crash going 30 mhp you're totaled would be awsome. what do you guys think? check this video out please =]

no. keep it the same as GTA4 imo. yeah it's not realistic going 130 mph and crashing head on into a brick wall and surviving, but i would hate to die going at just a fraction of that speed.

I would imagine the physics are exactly the same since they are using a lot of the same vehicle designs as in GTA4.

Whether they tweak things here and there, I'm not sure.

Totaled by a high speed crash is a bad idea. Howewer, cars were much stronger in GTA IV then in the GTA III era (sports carts caught on fire after a few crashes). Decreasing the max health of cars would be reasonable.

Actually, why not have your vehicle wrecked after a high speed crash? Sure, it would make certain missions harder but then again, so does crashing in general. Point is, even if you wreck your vehicle, what's stopping you from jacking another one from the streets? They're free to jack right?

GRINCH ASS BITCH

Unfortunately, I'm not even sure if we'll be getting GTA:IV's dynamic vehicle damage. If you watch the GTA:V trailer, at 1:05 there is a scene where a red car hits the tail end of a blue car going in the opposite direction. There is no visible damage from on either vehicle (although the angle makes it impossible to tell anyway).

There's a couple of things that really bother me with this scene. For one, the blue car seems like it is super light (even though it looks like a rather large vehicle) and was pushed aside with ease. Two, the red car didn't even seem like it was affected by the crash; it just kept on driving like nothing happened. Three, the way the smoke had risen off of the car at the moment of impact, that's very far from what I would have expected (I had assumed GTA:V was going to borrow the same damage engine from GTA:IV).

In all honesty, that scene is probably the only one that has me really worried about this game; it's very Saints Rowish (extremely light cars, cartoony smoke upon impact, cars driving like they're stuck on railroad tracks). Of course, this could just be a very early version of the game that we're seeing (as someone else had brought up, most of the vehicles don't even have reflections/optimized rendering), so I do think it's going to change by the time the actual game comes out. At least, I sure as hell hope so.

i know what you're saying, i watched that seen over like 10 times, this game is still in development and for this trailer they had to push the blue car easy in order to get the shot and damage is most likely turned off. i hope so atleast...

You have worded that well, that's exactly what got me a bit worried too. I wasn't exactly expecting Rigs of Rods crash physics but that part was absolutely ridiculous. Maybe it is just an early version of the game, but logically thinking I doubt it'll improve much. If it were, why would they show off something they know would get a lot better in the definitive version of the game? Wouldn't it be smarter -marketing wise- to just not show the crash physics untill they got it right?

That's what has me worried lol, I don't know if that scene is an indication of what's going to be in the final game. I hope to God it's not; after playing with GTA:IV's vehicle damage engine (which was incredible in my opinion), this would be a major letdown (that doesn't change the fact that I'd still gladly buy the game though).

If they change the damage physics or the driving physics, I'm going to get pissed. GTA IV's driving required skills smile.gif

Right, and that's why I liked it. People will quit saying a game is too easy when they have to do chases without being able to drive into oncoming traffic, running into a semi trailer head-on and bouncing right off it to continue on your way.

"You tell me exactly what you want, and I'll explain to you very carefully why it cannot be."

Noticed that scene too.... But in all honesty the least we can expect is IV's damage system.

My prediction is V will use a tweaked / upgraded version of the IV damage system and not an entirely new one.

My hope is to see more realistic crunching of the car itself.

I am all for crippling car damage. One thing I've always hated in other racing games is when you crash into other cars with high-speed, they drive off like nothing ever happened. Driver 3 had the right idea by having the unlucky drivers slumped lifeless over their steering wheel after the crash. Made it felt believable, as if something really nasty just happened.

I must admit, thgis is the only thing worrying me at the moment, but I think it could be a cutscene like how on GTA IV all the story chases were on rails, at least I hope so....

I think car damage should be like in real life, and for all the kids, YES if you crash into a wall at 120mph, you should die and look like a chew hamburger. Seriously, did you crash at high speed very often ? did you use ur break ? did you know how to drive well ? Personnaly, i rarely crash my car at high speed (mortal speed). Anyway, crash damage shouldn't be exactly like in real life, the protagonist should be a little more resistant than any other AI (AI have to be as resistant as a real human), he will always put his belt we he enter a car, and most of the car got airbag (we are in 2012) so if you crash at low/mid/mid-high speed you have a surviving rate of 95%. 50% at high speed, and 5% at very high speed, like in real life lol.gif

The car structural physic should react like in real life too (something like Rigs of Rods).

I'd gladly take something like Rigs of Rods, but isn't that very CPU intensive? It seems like it'd be almost impossible to have a GTA-styled ten car pile up without the game lagging like crazy. I'd honestly be content with them just using GTA:IV's vehicle damage system; it needed a bit of tweaking, but it was incredibly fun none the less.
