Exactly.

Sure would be crazy if R* included a 2012 Dodge Charger-based pursuit/patrol car for the sheriff's department and LSPD given that it may take so long for the GTA after V to come out that it would likely be in service anyway. monocle.gif

This is essentially what Rockstar are doing with their police vehicles.

This image is a late model Ford Crown Victoria with an early 1970's Twinsonic lightbar.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Twinsonics and older lightbars as much as the next guy, but there is a certain place for these to be used.

Modern police vehicles = Up to date lighting, including LED bars and accessories.

Old police vehicles = Rockstar's lightbars.

Cheers!

Hmm, old police cars?

I would love having a 1961 Plymoth lying on a museum somewhere in V that can be stolen.

Taurus is ugly, maybe it's just the paint scheme, but wowch, it looks awful, like I said I saw it at Homestead last year for the NASCAR finale, it looked hideous then, both the Taurus and SUV versions paced the field, both looked ugly.

LMAO at the Hyneman comment, who wants to mod a beret on it? I'd love some bonus vehicles though hidden out of the way

It isn't sadly. I checked after seeing it. Although I did end up watching taking Pelham 123 due to it being in the related videos section.

As for the weapons of the LAPD, I hope we get a Glock 21, a Smith and Wesson 4566 TSW, and the Berretta 92FS. I wish I could choose just one, but I love all three.

I had two run in's with the law the last two days.

First I get pulled over for speeding(Going to have to take it to court, he wrote me for being in a 35, when he pulled me over in the 45, and I didn't stop until the 35, on top of that he said I was going faster than I really was, but I digress)), and noticed that the new light bars now have a spot light feature built in. It would be nice if this was added as an extension of the high beams for Police Cruisers in V.

Second I was stuck behind a wide load truck for 2 hours. The wide load truck had a police escort who had his lights on(but only the back side of the bar). So I got a good 2 hours look at the new LED lights, two things I'd like to point out(I've noticed this before, I just didn't think much about it until I saw it for 2 hours). 1. The red and blue lights create a brief moment of purple as they overlap, if Rockstar wants to be completely accurate they should include this(if it's an LED bar). 2. The LED bars reflect off nearly everything, even if you can't see the police car, you can see it reflecting off pitch black power lines, cars, and dust that's been kicked up. While I doubt any modern engine could handle the lights without bogging down, it would be nice if they did a better job of reflecting off objects.

Why couldn't they? NFS: Hot Pursuit managed to create the LED lighting effects and have the light reflect off almost everything around it.

And where on the lightbar were these 'spot lights?' If they were at each end of the lightbar, that isn't a new feature, they are spots used for illuminating the sides of the vehicle at a scene.

Cheers!

'spot light feature' - alley lights, controllable on the panel/remote - useful tool.

Until like my force on the carriers you put them over the jump seat doors and not the front doors meaning they're useless.

They went horizontally down the bar in the middle. They did a pretty good job of illuminating the interior of my car.

As for NFS, it's a closed track with less going on than IV had, but I'm also talking about volumetric lighting.

Doesn't mean the engine wouldn't handle it, Need for Speed : The Run was running on a brandnew engine (FB2.0), and all Rockstar would really need to do is amp up the volumetric lighting, the Rage engine can handle that as seen in mods where all that is modified is some coding so that the lights reach a further distance, each individual LED ( model ) would change colour as the lights change and some effects that shouldn't be more than a 2D sprite camera flare.

user posted image

Rockstar did a similar thing in GTA : Vice City a couple of years back, except the model of the lights didn't change colour, they stayed transparent and the same while some 2D sprite effects swapped between the siren lights.

It isn't rocket science, many older games dating back to the 90's did a better job in the police lighting than GTA IV. It is very much feasable, it's all a question wether if Rockstar doesn't get lazy and does it properly this time around, you don't need a state of the art engine or computer to do this, even a lego game called Roblox, which everything is made by the community, can do roughly the same job as rockstar did with GTA IV with the exception of volumetric lighting.

If a little kid, 13 - 15 year old, can do this kind of a siren light effect in a 7 year old lego game, then a Professional Video Game company can make something like this and even better

Spot lights could also be used for illuminating the mirrors of stopped vehicles so that it not only lights the area, but also provides protection to the officer by blinding the driver's view.

I like the spot light idea. I noticed police vehicles had spot lights but never used them, kind of like many lights that were on the ambulance and fire truck. Weird!!! mercie_blink.gif

I have managed to locate some images of an unmarked Vapid Police Cruiser. Hopefully these will be included in GTA V in a variety of colours, and some improved lighting too.

Once again these aren't spot lights, they're left/right alley lights, different as they're not directional.

They are spotlights. Left/Right Alley lights are the ones on lightbars and are specifically called that because if an officer had to stop to go into foot pursuit or investigate in an alley way, or what ever, he has lighting for the side of the car. Spotting means looking for, and looking around, which is what the lights that are controlled with the handle inside the cab are for, spotlights.

Not the 1980s anymore tounge.gif and I am familiar with alley lights I use them a lot! tounge.gif and they're called so as they're for looking down alleys - not necessarily pursuits...

For want of a funny fact they put them too far down our carrier so they're in the wrong place if you want to look down alleys whilst on routine patrol!

Lamborghini cop cars are definitely not unrealistic.

A Lamborghini cop car in Los Angeles though? That's another story.
