GTA V Police Cars & Emergency Vehicles

Kent Traffic Cop
so why is there such a lack of detail on the autos, all of them, but especially emergency vehicles.

Because there is so much more to focus on.

True Crime & Driver may have better lighting... but you can't fly planes / helicopters, don't have *loads* of storyline detail, don't have epic radio stations with lots of content... I could go on & on.

I agree they are behind and need to sort it out, but I'm willing to excuse them for past games because there have been more important things to focus on.

Last night I had a thought about LED/strobe lighting on emergency vehicles.

I was flying a Maverick in GTA TBoGT, and I had never really payed attention to the navigational lights on it before. There are four lights on the heli, one red, one green and two white. All these lights are strobe lights and flash as such.

It dawned on me that GTA have had strobes in the game since the beginning of IV. Would it really be such an effort for Rockstar to use these in the headlights of emergency vehicles (hide-away strobes)? They could have even changed the flash pattern to simulate an LED light, and intergrated these into some LED bars?

Again, not a major discovery, but it just got me thinking.

Could this idea be recreated in GTA V? It better...

Cheers!

"Dallas sues Ford seeking information on police cars

By Hannah Lobel, Associated Press 12.27.2002

DALLAS — The City of Dallas on Thursday sued Ford Motor Co., seeking information about Crown Victoria police cars that officers’ groups say are prone to erupt in flames when hit from behind at high speeds.

City officials want to know whether the vehicles are safe enough. They have been in talks with Ford for two weeks but are not satisfied with the amount of information that Ford said it would provide about so-called bladders, sacks to protect fuel from igniting."

True Crime is a game where YOU are the police officer. GTA is a game where YOU are the criminal. Big difference. If you think of it, R* put more detail in civilian cars in GTA than emergency vehicles. It was the complete opposite in True Crime. They focused more on the police vehicles because they know that the "Cop" type people will be buying that type of game and driving the cars that they put the most detail into. R* just doesn't really think of the people like all of us, who want to see the better emergency vehicles. They aren't realizing that they are an important factor in the game.

Truth be told, Crown Vic's have a problem with bursting into flames if they receive a rear end collision, we recently lost an FHP trooper down here because his car was hit while he was doing paper work on the side of the road. Car burst into flames on impact.

If it catches fire from rear end collisions in game, I wouldn't mind one smile.gif

I only dropped in the story because people were saying the car was "reliable"

As a Crown Vic know it all I can assure you that this infamous story about the Crown Vics blowing up when rear ended is extremely old and was resolved ages ago. All of the Crown Vics were modified by Ford to prevent this from ever happening again, besides which this could realistically happen to any car, it's just more likely with a police car because they get rear ended more often and a whole lot harder than civilians do. It probably also had to do with the fact that the Crown Vics use heavy duty metal fuel tanks, most cars these days have plastic tanks.

Lastly, why did you post this picture? That Vic clearly wasn't even rear ended. It looks like it took on a molotov or some idiot wired the lights wrong.

No it hasn't.

His Widow is suing because the issue hasn't been solved.

There idea of fixing the problem was just putting a fire suppression system on it, sadly in Patrick's case it did not work.

Maybe we can PUSH for a mission like this in Gta, just Tryn to re-rail the topic here...

So it is essentially the Pinto issue all over again, bad fuel tank placement, sharp object somewhere near the fuel tank? Figures, in the 70s Ford came up with a 'quick fix' for the Pinto rather than redesign it, they won't change the Crown Vic, do they ever learn?

IMO a mission would be tasteless.

A mission based on this would be tasteless, I agree. And again, just because another incident occurred after the primary cause was fixed by Ford doesn't mean that there was not some secondary issue that could have caused the explosion of the FL trooper who died in 2010. He could have had equipment, weapons, etc in the trunk that could have had a part in causing the explosion. All I'm saying is that I have seen more rear ended Crown Vics that have not blown up than you could possibly imagine and it aggravates me when know it all's try to say that the Crown Vic is an unsafe POS because my life was saved by one of these cars when I was T-Boned and pushed a good 50ft by a driver moving at 80MPH and I crawled out with only minor injuries. I know for a fact that if the police had of been driving any other car all these years that there would be many more dead today.

Let's just leave this off topic discussion alone anyway and get back on track. Some cars in GTA IV would ignite at random when hit hard enough which was a cool feature that I hope that they pass on to GTA V and maybe even add some more effects to.

Indeed, items being stowed in the trunk in the wrong positions can contribute to such fires.

If I recall correctly, this is a very old issue which only arose a few times. Somewhere between the late 1990s and early-mid 2000s this was a problem, but since then Ford had resolved the issue.

Besides, the Crown Vic has done pretty well in collisions, considering it is one of the vehicles most likely to be hit from behind at 70 to 80mph!

This video here shows that these were only minor cases. There are so many videos like this on YouTube, check them out for yourself:

If there was a genuine problem with the Police Interceptor, police agencies would have stopped using them ages ago. Many agencies do not want to get rid of theirs!

British police vehicle guy, stop trying to taint the Crown Vic's image. We are all on the same side here. The Crown Vic has served American citizens and LEOs very very well.

Cheers!

It's actually not a female. The Sergeant ( chevron stripes on his shoulder) has a masculine body posture. He is disorted by the heat-waves/blur. His hand gusture looks like as if he's shouting or issuing a order to his fellow officers.

Did anybody notice that they have shoulder chest mikes? If you look really close at their shoulder areas, you can distinguishably make out the mike and cord running from his utility belt radio.

^I sure hope they include and actually utilize chest mics in GTAV. They're always talking on those things IRL.

i think the police cars are fine just because they always add new second round police cars and then third and fourth round police. for example they had for GTAIV they added hummers not aautomatically N.O.O.S.E S.W.A.T they stalled those of to make sure you really want a war

All the police vehicles should give pistol and shotgun ammo no matter how many times you get in the driver seat, it would be handy for online chases.

Those aren't department police though. GTAIV's LCPD only had two department cars that I can remember (very unrealistic; "living breathing city my ass"). NYPD vehicles are the second most active behind taxis in NY when I last went.

*Hopefully, things will be different.

In regards to the chest mics, didn't they use them in IV? I swear I saw them using them to call in things. Although I may just be picturing them do it because real officers do it all the time.

No sir, they would occasionally pull out a handheld radio and use that, but no chest mics were utilised.

Wish I had a RSM (Remote speaker microphone) - looks more police-y - I have to make do with something akin to a mobile phone on my chest (Though the airwave is cool! I can listen to every force in the country's channels and talk groups on one, small device) - I hope they include them in V!

I drove more kilometres in the Ford Crown Victoria than any other vehicle in NFS Hot Pursuit 2010.

A fantastic game, Rockstar need to take a good hard look at it to see what the hell they are doing wrong.
