GTA V Police Cars & Emergency Vehicles

I seriously have to disagree with you all, and I wasn't really changing the subject earlier. There are police games out there that stood up well against GTA, granted they did not sell nearly as many copies as GTA, but that's because again they were poorly designed. True Crime is an excellent example. Those games had the right idea, but the physics, detail, driving controls, and many other factors were well under par.

I also think you are wrong about it being restricting because it actually opens up more freedom. You could then do like in True Crime NY and still be a bad guy but also be able to use your badge to get things, search vehicles, plant drugs/guns, etc. You would also have the LSPD to back you up.

I will admit that many would laugh at the idea and I was not stating earlier that it is unethical to play as a criminal, as I said I'm not a liberal democrat, but it is offensive to make missions set on killing cops because that is nothing to play about. Seriously though, I'm getting real tired of playing free roam games where literally all you can do is steal cars, wreck them, and kill people. THAT IS ALL THERE IS TO DO IN GTAIV AFTER YOU BEAT IT. And that is what sucks about playing as a criminal. A cop free mode would add several months of replay time to the game.

I can't wait to see the new wanted level system. I really hope they improve it - cars, weapons, and just overall credibility. Cops need to act like cops; it would make the game 10x better.

True, they act so f%$#@!$ retarded in IV. Running into a building guns blazing when there is a whole pile of their buddies lying outside the door.

I want them to run and tackle you to the ground, like Bully, instead of mindlessly killing you for pushing someone over. Handcuffs need to be introduced to the game, for 1-star wanted levels.

I would also like to see more of a variety of police vehicles. I prefer the cop cars to be American though rather than having an Evo in the US as a cop car. I like cop cars such as the Crown Vic and Chevy Caprice.

We'll see a wide range of police vehicles, because GTA5 is in more than one county. (GTA4 was only Liberty City.)

Each location in V will have it's own disctrict police & squad cars:

Possible locations include:

• Malibu

• Sequoia National Park

• Mojave Desert (Kern county?)

• Where ever the farmland is, (Ventura district?)

• Catalina Island

• Los Angeles

And that is what sucks about playing as a criminal. A cop free mode would add several months of replay time to the game.

Then name them? I can name the TC series, Astrogon's software (which has a lot of the features you described, however it is VERY poorly made and translated to English and set exclusively in Germany with next to no modding potential, think policing by spreadsheet). I use OnLive and on it it has Alarm Fur Cobra 11, a very arcadey police game based on a German TV series, with free roam, but like GTA, there is nothing to do when you beat the story, it just goes back to a menu and lets you pick a (sparse) free roam and get to drive around a city.

No it opens up exactly the same freedoms if not less playing as a cop. If a car gets wrecked, an officer off duty can't just comandeer another vehicle without a badge, a criminal can steal one. A cop has to obey the law at all times and not get up to anything the average player may consider 'fun', i.e. killing people, stealing cars or breaking the law.

IMO the TC series had good freedom. Not amazing, but good nonetheless, you were still a cop, albeit a good or bad one, but you could pretty much GTA your way through the universe.

If R* ever go down that route, it'd be a sure buy here. However like i said I doubt it'd sell, it's stil after all a niche market, people would as you said laugh at the concept, like they laugh at farming sims, or wood cutting sims, or road repair sims, all three of which are sold (poorly though)

Stealing cars and killing cops and people is GTA in a nutshell though, it seems like you're tired of the franchise, R* won't change what's selling well, that's like asking CNN to stop doing news becaus somebody doesn't like the sports section in it.

I'd much rather have R* do a Fallout 3 pre-Broken Steel type of ending, it autosaves before the last mission in a special slot, then when you do the final mission, ending cutscene, no free roam after the story. Instead it goes back to the autosave so you can free roam if you want and just ignore that last mission.

On a *slightly* off-topic note... why is it that we never see different ambulances and fire trucks?

I'd love to see a return of the green one from GTA 1 tounge.gif

I'd love to see various types of ambulances! Los Angeles has 2 main variants:

There's the Red ALS ambulance:

There's also the White BLS ambulance:

Very nice - the 2nd one looks like the one in San An (would be nice to see it again with more detail). Really hope they put in some variants happy.gif

The introduction of some specialist police vehicles would be nice too. Perhaps some mobile command centres, based on a vehicle such as the Boxville or something. Prisoner transport should also be introduced. The prisoner transport bus in TLaD was pretty good, but perhaps something smaller would be better. A van such as the Burrito could have a lightbar and siren fitted with caged windows etc.

Cheers!

Maybe it's because I'm from the UK and have a soft spot for Americana but I love Crown Victorias. I've never seen one in the flesh but they're cool.

Although I think the company who makes crown vics is an american company, I am pretty sure it was designed by a Canadian.

False: Ford Crown Victorias are made by Ford; an American company. Ford also designs the car given that it is their brand. The car is just assembled in Canada given Canada's proximity to the US auto manufacturing center of Detroit (a US-Canada border city).

@John The Grudge, it's funny you say that because we Americans take these bad ass cop cars for granted so much. Some people even hate the presence of a Crown Vic. or get on edge when they see one nearby (because the Crown Vic. usually = Trouble). The car is so characteristic of the American police officer's presence. Epic.

Guys, something just dawned on me. If you look closely at the scene where the black guy was running from the cops, you'll notice the halogen lights have improved greatly. Then I remembered that there were LED lightbars in GTA IV, they just had the same glow as halogens. The Crown Vics are the only car in the fleet that has halogens. If there are other model patrol cars, which is extreemly likely, they would probaly have overhauled the LED lights on those cars and made them unique to the LED lightbars. Hopefully, when trailer 2 is released, we will see a Buffalo cruiser with LEDs. My point is: If they overhauled the halogens, they have most likely overhauled the strobe on LEDs, we are just yet to see them.

I doubt it. Look what Rockstar did to the firetruck and ambulance of GTA IV - all the light accesorries on it and they only mapped the lightbar to flash. I'm pretty positive that they're going to do a half ass job on the GTA V fleet. In the end of GTA V trailer, the car fire scene, you can see the ambulance in the background with only the lightbar on. This is evident enough. Sad but true.

I agree they were lazy, but they saw the reaction from the community. There were pockets of gamers like us outraged by the lighting system. Then they tried to make it up to us by adding lightbars and deck lights on the Stinger in TBOGT. They know we all like pretty lights, and there will be backlash if they dont include them this time round.

EDIT: And BTW, in the fire scene, the lights on the ambulance are off.

Yeah, but dude the stinger still had the sh*tty halogen lights, on a LED bar? They can't even do the most effing simple lights - wig-wags!

I won't be surprised if i found out that Rockstar designer behind the GTA emergency fleet design is british and has zero experiences in the term of understanding the technology that LA first responders have. Someone needs to give him a tour at a fire hall. wish someone from Whelen or Federal Signal could join the development and make it right...

I think Need for Speed hot pursuit ( the older series) was the only game that had wig-wags. Saints Row added headlight strobes, hell they have done an awesome job with Saints Row emergency fleet lighting. Driver SF's crown Victoria is my favorite to date because it has appropriate lighting. Maybe not so much on the ambulance and firetruck. Those are the details that we need and I applaud them all for the efforts that have been applied into realistic lights.

But Rockstar? Still frozen in time...

I do remember Saints Row having better lighting. And GTA strives for realism! What mother f*cking irony.

Yeah, it really is a shame. The rest of both GTAIV and V look beautiful, all they really need to change to make it look 120% better is to make the lighting more realistic. Honestly even on the civilian cars. Maybe add a customization feature where we can add HID's and neon lights which I hate both of but it would be a cool add on.

And the Ambulances in GTAIV really are a disgrace. There are lights all over the ambulance yet the only thing that flashes (and poorly at that) is the light bar. It has what looks similar to a rear strobe or halogen bar, surface mount lights all ove the side, and even grille lights, none of which as we all know work!

Also the light bars that you all are saying looked like led bars, like on the noose vehicles, I have to disagree, they look more like really slim versions of the strobe Whelen 9M. And the lighting in the GTAV trailer is slightly better for sure, but the bars are still too fat (lights are flashing like strobes or LED's and not like fat halogen bars), there is no auxiliary lighting, and the biggest factor to me really is the ANCIENT Crown Vics.

The only decent lighting system that R* ever came up with was in GTA 1&2 (back in the day / not now).

In III (inc. VC and San An) the b*stards hardcoded it so no one could change that stupid "tidal wave effect" crap... and then in IV the community had to put a lot of effort into finishing off the half-arsed job we were given.

If we see decent lighting in V (inc. bumper LEDs, wig-wags and dash mounts) then I will probably have a coronary cry.gif

You have to take note though: R* has to slightly alter the car so that they don't get sued. This can include slightly different headlights, etc.

And yes, headlights on civilian cars need a complete overhaul.

I still don't think they would get sued. They do need a license but it's not as hard or expensive to get as you all think with a game like this. All these other games have licenses to use the Crown Vic and I heard they got payed to use them, and even if they don't use the Crown Vic identically, they can at least freakin try. The Saints Row Crown Vic looks like crap too, but it's waaay better than this old piece. It doesn't resemble a 21st century Crown Vic at all, yet it is VERY, VERY similar to the old ones. If they updated them to look as closely to the new Crown Vics as the current ones do to the old then it would look 1,000 times better.

For some reason I actually prefer the old Crown Vic. Though an update wouldn't kill them. The SR2 Crown Vics didn't look a lot like the current one, but the one GTA uses is an old model.

I'm sorry, but Rockstar needs to live in the present.

Let's just at least hope that one day we will be able to modify and script the PC version game with ELS, ENB, car mods, you name it. It'll get better in time. One day you will be patrolling in a crown victoria, keeping the Peace and laws of Los Santos and the county enforced. Until then, we'll have to suck it up with default cars an make the best out of them.

Possible good news guys! R* stated earlier that GTA V will have crews which is making it's debut with Max Payne 3. It's probably safe to assume that there will be other multiplayer features in GTA V that will match up to Max Payne 3.

If you watch the Max Payne 3 multiplayer video part 1 they describe a "gangs" multiplayer mode. In the video they show a paramilitary looking gang (possibly police) as one of the gangs to play as. They also show that there are various other types of unique never before used game modes.

If they incorporate this into GTA V with the law as a gang then this could be a total game changer!
