GTA V Police Cars & Emergency Vehicles

While I personally would like cars in GTA that would move slowly on flat ground when you release the brake in D and require a switch to R to go in reverse using the R2 button, and a brake that doesn't magically turn into reverse, I don't expect Rockstar to do that. But I DO expect Rockstar to make cars that don't behave like you're pressing firmly on the brake every time you release the gas without braking. I don't understand how that could possibly be considered a superior way of vehicle handling. Frankly, I am baffled that nobody else has complained about this glaring issue on forums, reviews, or blos(that I have found).

Making things easier for the player by letting their car slow down when they're not intentionally keeping their foot on the gas isn't a "glaring issue."

Making it so that the brakes apply without using the brakes does not "mak[e] things easier for the player." In GTA, I don't want my car to constantly be braking automatically because usually I'm not trying to go slow--I'm trying to go fast. I want to be able to let off the gas for five seconds without losing most of my speed. If I want to slow down, I will brake accordingly. It's just very dissapointing because driving is obviously a huge part of the game and yet Rockstar programs their cars to behave this way. Even if "all video games do that" GTA is not "all video games" and does a lot of things better than "all video games." At the very least, Rockstar could make the brake lights go on when you let go of the gas, seeing as the game is essentially automatically firmly applying the brakes.

This has nothing to do with the police cars or emergency vehicles, quit spamming this thread with nonsense. Make your own thread about the "Braking system" if you want to debate it.

I would love to know if I will be able to run down a road with lights and sirens blaring without civilians running off the road like in GTA4

That's a good idea because this topic deserves its own thread. However, as I should have maybe stated more clearly, emergency vehicles do the automatic braking thing too and therefore this is relevant when it comes to fixing emergency vehicles. This is also not "nonsense."

TheTerminatorNY

IGN confirmed on there GTA V Asked & Answered that the headlights are turned on with right on the D Pad rather than X/Square. The odds of turning our emergency lights on without the sirens just went way up.

That would be sweet. It's obviously not a huge deal, but it's something I've always wanted to be able to do in GTA games so I hope it's possible.

I still don't get why, on the screens, sometimes the blue light is on the left. WTF?

I apologize for the double post but to answer your question; the pictures where you see the blue lights on the left side are from older game builds. When the gameplay trailer came out, this was when the blue/red lights became the correct red/blue combination. Rest assured that the blue/red light combination is no more! :^:

Thanks for your answer! I hope you're right, because it would drive me crazy, even if it's nothing that big.

I'm pretty confused about which police cars and light bars are going to end up in the final game. I hope they've considered adding police equipment to vehicle modification options and also allow police cars to be customized with an array of the different light bars and other options.

Here is a list I quickly complied of what vehicles are confirmed and what kind of main emergency lighting they are equipped with.

  • LSPD Vapid Cruiser - LED/rotator lightbars
  • LSPD Vapid Interceptor - LED lightbars
  • LSPD Buffalo - LED lightbars
  • LSSD Vapid Cruiser - LED/rotator lightbars
  • LSSD Declasse SUV - LED lightbars
  • NOOSE Unmarked Declasse SUV - Interior LED lightbar/mounted deck lights
  • Park Ranger(?) Declasse SUV - LED lightbars
  • Unmarked Vapid Cruiser - Interior LED lightbar/mounted deck lights

The park ranger SUV is referring to the white SUV with green stripe, which looks nearly identical to a U.S. Park Ranger SUV. The unmarked Vapid Cruiser, which was discussed earlier in this thread, might belong to the FIB, LSPD, or NOOSE.

It's about more than being "highly visible" (which we don't even know for sure--I'm concerned that the lights aren't bright enough). It's about the actual LEDs contraption. If "highly visible" was all we cared about, Rockstar might as well just put a blob of light like they did in GTA IV!

I do get what your saying but there is not a problem with them being that small, as I said a bit earlier, I have seen real cop cars with tiny LED's like those so it's not like R* messed up, they're just doing a variety of lights for us.

But the larger ones are clearly better. Also, it appears that they did mess up with regards to the way the red tail/brake lights are used in the emergency lighting. I thought Rockstar was supposed to be attentive to detail.

Realistically, they have to have a mix of different patrol cars. LA isn't a very wealthy City. There's about 10,000 employed LAPD Officers (not including LASD and any other LA County departments). So it makes sense for them to have the old Crown Vics and a small amount of the new chargers.

Yes LSSD is Los Santo Sheriffs Department, as of now there is no Blaine county sherrif. They are policed by a regional sheriff's office the LSSD.

BradyGames has confirmed via Amazon that the strategy guide will feature information including stats/speeds for EVERY vehicle in GTA V/GTA Online. On my way home from midnight release and while the 8GB installs I will definitely be checking out the Emergency Vehicles.

So is the old side door emblem still on some of the vehicles?

Only on the Crown Victoria (Cruiser) unfortunately.

Primary reason why the CV Cruiser is my top favorite cop car in the game, dunno why the Buffalo doesn't have the seal (it not being a "new" car and all) but oh well.

I've been going over screenshots and trailers, etc. and I've noticed that the Police Buffalo has only appeared in ones that are related to GTA Online. Which brings me to the dissapointing conclusion that perhaps Buffalo Cruisers are only going to be in the online mode, again. If anyone can prove otherwise, please do: I'd love to see it in single player. I'm just worried they're going to try to pull that online only crap again.

Has anyone else noticed this? I've been following this thread pretty closely and I dont think I've seen any mention of this potential dissapointment.

I'll look forward to cruising in a police car in GTA V, I just hope the civvies don't just randomly jump in front of my car.

The buffalo has been seen in some trailers and screens so it's definitely going to be in single player.

That's what I was saying, but I've only seen them in trailers and screenshots that were taken from GTA Online.

On the LSPD page on rockstargames.com/v page there is a screen of some LSPD officers next to the LSPD Baffalo and the screen in from Single Player.

There are two screens: one of the buffalo in a runoff drain (isn't very clear), and another one with a red infernus (only the rear of the cab is visible, stands out against the CVs). And then the shot under "security and peace of mind." It wasn't until the online trailer that the buffalo was fully shown off, just like the Taurus interceptor originally was in the character trailers. Edited by Sanchez14
