Blimps in GTA V?

It's a blimp, not a balloon. And these have been in many past GTAs. Never controllable. Would be neat, though.

Los Santos Pedestrian

Look at this find:

Do you think these are driveable, or just blimps that fly around the sky like in Vice City and you can't enter them?

Anyway, they weren't around in San Andreas of IV, so they're making a comeback.

It appeared to be static in the trailer. My prediction is that Rockstar will program it to go in a circle around downtown, much like the jets in GTA IV are programmed to circle the city. I don't think it will be driveable.

Spaghetti Cat

May come out at special times, like sporting events or something. Or it could be like the Jumbo Jets were like in IV, you could see them but not enter or fly. Who knows really I'm just excited to see blimps in a GTA! Whooo! Shifty41s_beerhatsmilie2.gif

K^2, you should know, he was confusing Airship, and you could also say it's a Dirigible as well, Blimp is most associated wording, as people call the Goodyear Blimp, they may know most, or the one from Scarface

I was just hearing the static trailer presentation was for uniformity of shots in the trailer, and that could be, it's probably true some care in doctoring the imagery took place, but not too deceptively so, Rockstar aren't being sneaky that much

I can actually imagine a mission taking place on that blimp. At the end you blow it up and jump out with a parachute (Like that mission on SA where you go on that jet and do the same thing)

there is a wishlist thread this would fit nice into. And this has been said alot. it could also go in the analysis thread.

If you look closely at the blimps in scenes that show it for extended periods, you'll see it's a static little extra.

they're most likely just static blimps, like how the jumbo jets were in IV. they were there just couldn't fly 'em.

To be honest, riding a blimp wouldn't be very fun anyway. It would be really slow and boring.

Unless they've brought back modding shops. With the use a few glitches we'll have NOS equipped blims. wink.gif

Blimp is a name of a frameless airship, which this one almost certainly is. While the name dirigible can be applied to any airship, it is most commonly reserved for airships with a frame. So calling it a dirigible is slightly misleading, if not incorrect.

In short, you're not wrong, but calling it a blimp is more specific, as it defines the narrowest class of aircraft to which this vehicle belongs.

Vehicle -> Aircraft -> Lighter-than-air -> Airship -> Blimp.

If it's not pilotable, I'd be very happy with being able to just enter it as a passenger and use it to get some spectacular views of the city from inside it. Sorta like the helitours in IV.

Weren't the tugboats in GTA 4 slow as well? You could still have fun with tugboats anyways, and you probably could with blimps as well, though it's unlikely we will be able to pilot them.

There are many theories which we can conclude regarding the blimps:

1. Maybe they're non flyable by player, and thus might be non touchable, which logically leads to a conclusion that there's gonna be a height limitation, so we won't be able to reach them.

Like VC actually. = BAD, due to the presence of planes & fighter jets, and eventually UNLIKELY.

2. They can be non flyable by player, but indestructible, like the airliners in IV. = weird but OK. worked fine in IV, and thereby LIKELY to happen.

3. They're flyable by player.

As you folks said, it'll be pretty slow, and not that exhilarating to maneuver.

But we've had things as slow as this in past titles. = GOOD, but it has a 50/50 chance.

4. They are for cinematic purposes only. = BAD, however, it is a LIKELY option as well.

TheGreene2010

It's like the planes that flew over LC, scripted flight paths. In which it does all the time every time.

The "scripted flight paths" in GTA Vice City as well, I recall, The main reason for them NOT being flyable planes in GTA IV is that Sam Houser stated there was no need, the map was central enough to the story and gameplay, and "Where would you fly to?" dictated not having them. Since Sam Houser is the Buck-stops-here guy, you wound up with a more story-centric game, and all things in GTA IV adhere close to your character and the story, and locations

I think it will be non flyable and indestructible. It will probobly just fly in a circle around Downtown and if you run into it with an airplane it will have the same effect as hitting any other aircraft mid air but your plane is the only one that takes damage. I think it was just added as another feature to make the city more living and I would have no problem if they were unflyable and indestructible.

Well, so long as it's treated as a solid, it could still be fun. Land a heli on top. Enjoy the views. Use it for base jumping. That sort of thing.

I highly doubt that the blimp would be flyable in Grand Theft Auto V, though it would be cool if it did have its own interior that could be used as a setting for a mission or something. Per K^2's post, if it is a solid, then I agree that it would be cool to be able to fly a helicopter and land on top of it. Would make for a great view, that's for sure.

It would be pretty cool if it were controllable though!

For Liberty City's last Happiness Island, we know you had to bail from a helicopter to get to the higher points of Ms. Liberty... So, that's one aspect of exploring right there
