GTA V Trailer 1

Is that a Nightstick in the hands of that officer?

Hate to break it to you - but it's just her/his hand.

On a side note, you can see that that officer does indeed have a holstered gun - and if V is anything like RDR, we may be able to holster our weapon's... I know it's a long shot, but meh.

Looks like it smile.gif

Why would a nightstick be in his arm?

But it does look like it though.

No, it's some kind of belt, but definitely not a nightstick.

The nightstick could be on the belt.

Hm, it really does look like that middle cop is holding something and the other cops clearly have batons on their belts. I vote nightstick.

It has already been confirmed a month ago...

This has probably been mentioned/noticed before. But is the cop in the middle a woman?

Has someone said something about the draw distance yet?

It seems like Rockstar has invented a new way of streaming data, at least, I think so biggrin.gif

In those few shots the world seemed to be endless, without boundaries -> a pretty long draw distance

In those shots you can clearly see much fog -> small draw distance

Well, since the one with low draw distance are just L.A. you could say that this is supposed to be smog, which is a real problem of LA, too. But the image with the oil pump show that this argument isn't 100% valid. My guess is that Rockstar really has tuned the RAGE and made it possible to stream much data without needing much power. As we could see on the textures and stuff, the graphics seem to be pretty good.

What do you think?

I think that's some pretty good analysis right there! Nice work! smile.gif

OMG, why do you guys keep saying that random people will be the protagonists?

The protagonist will obviously be the guy in the balcony scene.

why? because as we don't know, we speculate. Just like you do when you say "the guy in the balcony is the protagonist"

I think him staring off into the balcony pretty much confirms we play as him. He is looking blankly, waiting for input, I think a ped or cut scene character would behave in a more complex way.

I'm sorry do you have any logic whatsoever?

This.

Just because he is the only close-up shot we get of a character in the whole trailer DOES NOT mean he's the protagonist. He looks like someone you possibly work for etc. The way its directed also implies 'looking out over your empire', further supporting that he's some boss or whatever.

Having a middle-aged fat dude who's already successful (wearing a suit) doesn't exactly provide much scope for character progression.

Moreover, the narrating voice is obviously Hispanic (the accent on "weather"), not caucasian.

And I replied with:

Logic? What logic is there in a cutscene where your "boss" or whatever is staring without any focus or emotion towards the city? Had they made that scene longer, you'd probably see him start to scratch his crotch like an idle Niko.

The voice is also clearly Ned Luke who looks exactly like the man. I am Hispanic and I couldn't imagine hearing this guy say one sentence in Spanish without the "white man way of pronouncing words." You doubters baffle me.

On the screenshot of the guy running down an alleyway, there might be a clue to smarter Police. I am not sure if it is merely coincidence, but it looks like the Police stationed their vehicles on the alley entrances to try and prevent an escape route or seal the zone.

Has someone said something about the draw distance yet?

The comparison with the draw distance in IV is unreal. I played IV for the first time in awhile and was bummed at how crappy things looked from far away. Then I checked out the old IV trailer... same thing. Blurry in daylight, nothing but smokey lights at night. If the V trailer is representative of the final game in terms of draw distance it'll be incredible.

Yeah its seems extremly possible that the draw distance will outbeat IV's by a long shot...well now that I think of it check out RDR's draw distance its rediculous

Just check out this vid and see for yourself.

And judging from the trailer this seems to be the case.

R.A.G.E engine update = improved draw distance

Sorry if I go OT,but is there a connection between the improvement of the draw distance and the presence of NPCs at longer distances?

I mean: in IV if you aim over 150yds (with a precision rifle for example) you won't see any NPCs. I don't know if in RDR it's different because I haven't played it yet,but I wanted to know if there's a connection between these two things biggrin.gif .

Yeah, but there was another point I wanted to know. The thing with the "different" draw distances. In RDR and GTAIV I can see the "end" all the time, though the skyscrapers in IV were just crap. In RDR everything seemed alright, the textures were low-res, yeah, but it had still a stunning feeling when you looked down on the map from a high position.

Now in V, as I said, there are some times where the draw distance is incredibly long (shot with oil pump for example) and some where it looks like Minecraft with draw distance "low" (first shot where you see the skyline).

Seems like some sort of a "dynamic" draw distance, but who knows?

I think it is connected with the graphics and map size. RDR had a HUGE map (maybe because of the horses) because it really felt HUGE. Look at brandrixco's video and you know what I mean biggrin.gif

But RDR's map has less data to load than IV because they were no big skycrapers, thousands of houses and millions of pedestrians. Most of the map was flat and "empty" (shouldn't sound offensive, it's right how it is). So, because of that, the draw distance could be really far. Now the same with V: in landscapes there is a long draw distance (few peds, no big skyscapers) while there is a low one in the city (skycrapers, many peds). Lower draw distance -> more space to load good textures, more peds and so on.

Well, these are just some of my thoughts, I might be wrong, but we'll now on release ^^

It's probably already been brought up somewhere on these 300 pages, but I'm just thinking if this is a road heading to the other side of the mountain? Or is it just the way the mountain is shaped?

Where am i looking at, as i'm really confused where

Yes you could be right, but honestly there was alot more houses and buildings that were open in Red Dead, there was gun shops, forts, random houses, mines with mine carts, mansions, taverns, banks.

GTA IV had barely any interior placces, as it seemed al copy pasted like half of the gun shops looked the same, there was just one police station that was enterable (no dildos XD) and to me the city did feel "alive" and dynamic, but when you start looking at the grabd picture it really isnt.

Now honestly I think alot of things from RDR will be coming to GTA V, because it has to, the draw distances, random events, etc. R* San Diego made the Engine, so maybe there the ones who tweek and update the tools for the R* north developers to muck around with.

To conclude I believe that just because a game has a crazy amount of "non-enterable" buildings doesn't mean thats its harder on the game, as yet another R* diego game Midnight Club LA ran a smooth 60 fps/second and the game was gorgeous.

Damn, I didn't think that the white man in the balcony was the main character, but the voice (which is clearly from the main character) is definitely Ned Luke's, and the guy looks like him too. I hope R* doesn't f*ck it up with this, as it would suck to play as and old / middle aged man, especially because we expect a fresh atmosphere. That makes me think that there is a SLIGHT possibility of the voice not being the protagonist's. After all, the first trailers of RDR and LA Noire had a voice which wasn't the protagonist's. panic.gif

Not this again. /facepalm

Seriously, why so much complaining about the protagonist's age? He must be at his 40's.

That is not much, because Thomas Vercetti had at least 35 or 40 years old (considering he stayed 15 years in the jail, and to work in Mafia you need to be at least 20 years old). And a lot of people liked Tommy Vercetti (even me).

Probably, when GTA V be released, a lot of people will like the Albert de Silva/Ned Luke/Whatever-he-is-called. And will think 9 times before calling him an "old-fart" again.

Dourvas made the most probable connection with the protaganist ever theres absolutly no doubt in my mind that he nailed it 100%, also alot of people are saying that just because someone is seen driving in a seen doesn't mean that its the protagonist (Ned Luke) which could be the case if you look at the first GTA IV trailer you see a blue feltzer drive by the amusment park, but its not niko driving it. And the voice narrative is presented identicly as in both trailers you only see the protag for a brief timeframe (2 shots in IV and 1 close up face shot in V)

Weren't you the one that said the voice didn't sound white? How else am I supposed disprove that?
