jUV3NtUS17
Rockstar has accepted that GTA IV was a failure? They have never jumped from one number to another. C'mon guys, I don't wan't to hear no bullsh*t that GTA IV was amazing or that it was better that VC or SA because if you think that, than there is definitely something wrong with you. GTA IV didn't have that feel and addiction that VC and SA had. The lack of stuff to do in IV is just one of many reasons why it wasn't even close to being as fun as VC or SA. Turin88
While I prefer VC and SA, I wouldn't exactly consider GTA IV to be a failure. Firstly, it was overhyped. Secondly, it was a transition period for the series. In spite of both, it still turned out to be a pretty good game.
mikecyclexxx
*Facepalm This. @jUV3NtUS17. Are you retarded? IV was the foundation, it wasn't meant to steal SA's thunder as such. Have you played GTA III? Its practically identical to IV in formula, just alot older haha. We all know that V will be improved enormously from IV. That being said, IV was a great game and i still play it now. Yes, id rather play san andreas after the story's finished than IV but that doesnt make IV "sh*t". Imagine the features of SA on the game engine of IV. All i can say is, this will be epic.
Duxfever
Wow I expected the punchline to be a more sophisticated than that. IV was only "incomparable" (using this term loosely) to previous titles, because it was a new engine. IV - compare it to III, new engine. Lost and Damned - compare it to Vice City, just getting started. Ballad of Gay Tony - compare it to San Andreas, daaang. V - all of those combined plus many more, HOLY CHRIST. You betcha. archiebunker
Rockstar has accepted that GTA IV was a failure? I "love" these threads. Translation: "I hated GTA IV, so I'm going to shoehorn some unrelated and seemingly random facts together in order to conform them to my entirely subjective biases, QED." They have never jumped from one number to another. How about some perspective? -GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, Stories -GTA IV, The Lost & Damned, The Ballad of Gay Tony -GTA V, ???, ???, etc Edited November 1, 2011 by archiebunker
Sunrise Driver
Sure, IV was epic failure so they're making a new era and trying again with Liberty City...for the 8th time. HAHA.
The Made Man
Wait not to sound stupid, but V going to be a completely new era? And DLC are just going to be the spin offs like VC and SA?
buzbegone
Failure? Ah well, you know best. Please design, publish and successfully sell a triple A title and show us how it's done.
hcrealill
Honestly, how many times is IV gonna be called a failure compared to SA and VC? Jumping to V shows that R* know they did bad with IV? The ideas that people have are ridiculous. What would they call it if it wasn't V, anyway? San Andreas 2? Vice City 2? Some-place-or-other Stories? If anything, V keeps the series fresh and stable. Cutlass Supreme
GTA IV sucked yes, but the GTA V title probably isn't a result of that. If they want to set in in San Andreas or Vice City, they probably can't really call it "GTA San Andreas 2" so calling it GTA V solves that. Not necessarily, but there is a pattern. I doubt it's a whole new continuity from IV, though.
Matty
Grand Theft Auto IV was a fantastic game, and I think that it is better then GTA: Vice City (and to an extent, GTA: San Andreas) in many key areas. How the heck do you think that it got the good reviews that it did upon its release? Most publications don't give positive reviews to crap games. Rockstar are not admitting anything is a failure by not "jumping straight into GTA V", and they are especially not admitting that GTA IV was a failure, either. Rucke
Think of it like this: GTA IV is the next generations GTA III. Now we all know that Vice City and San Andreas had plenty more to do. So obviously there will be a lot more to do in GTA V. GTA IV was, according to R*, a test to see how much they could do with this new technology. They already have a solid foundation now. All they have to do is improve it and keep adding more stuff. And to people who say GTA IV suck. f*ck off! Obviously you are too childish and immature to appreciate a more serious and mature game. I personally think that Grand Theft Auto IV's storyline is better then any other storyline presented in the GTA series as it is the most convincing when it comes to the end of it. Overall, I think that Grand Theft Auto IV is not that far off of GTA: San Andreas as being the best Grand Theft Auto game in the series, in my opinion - GTA: San Andreas only beats out GTA IV because of the variety of side-missions and other activities you can do in the game (though GTA IV does have some new and rather fun activities and side tasks to make up for it - and if you include "The Ballad of Gay Tony" and "The Lost and Damned" into the equation as being part of GTA IV, then GTA IV beats out GTA: San Andreas as the best GTA). And change is good. If it were up to people like you, Rockstar would continue rehashing GTA III forever and the franchise would die out.

If it really was a 'test', it was a damn good test, not only because of how successful the engine etc. was, but considering the storyline itself was probably the thickest of the series. I'd take an American Dream plot over a West Side Gangsta Homie plot anyday. (not saying SA's story wasn't good). But I really do think the series is maturing and evolving in every department. Except for activities and diversions, but they had time to work on that, and they probably did put many more activities available for us to play outside the main story. So the engine/physics/graphics/story/seriousness + activities/diversions/replayability/immaturity =
ArcaneKnight
So people are saying GTA IV : San Andreas doesn't make sense because they would then have to put a 2 next to SA.. But if Rockstar has the title GTA V : San Andreas it all of a sudden makes sense and is okay? I don't understand that logic.
