Super rich?

Ok so I was reading an article on the BBC about Roman Abramovich (Chelsea FC owner and Russian billionnaire) and I was thinking what would/should be a limit to the amount of power and wealth we have? Would having too much money seem too unrealistic? Would it be hard to find things to spend it all on and ultimately feel pointless to have a large amount of wealth?

We've been from rags to riches, or in Niko's case "rags to slightly better rags" but what about rags/already having riches to incredible riches? What if we had tens of millions? Hundreds of millions? Maybe even billlions? With the new logo widely believed to be hinting at a "financial theme" maybe we will see a new level of power and wealth we've never before seen in a GTA. What do you think?

Interesting idea. I think GTA is about rising to fame and becoming more powerful/richer with time and relations that the protagonist estabnlish in the crime world. The only way I can see working is if you started with a lot of money and lose it all of a sudden, and you want to get it back from the people who stole it from you.

The problem you have with this is, how do get a super rich billionaire in situations where he needs to shoot and kill large numbers of people, or blow up cars etc, etc? That kind of gritty violence which is what GTA is all about, would usually be commited by someone like Niko, not a super rich billionaire who in reality would employ the people who employ the people who employ Niko.

If that makes sense? smile.gif

may sound stupid, but there was a sort of wall street where there is the possibility of buying shares and the case to end up losing all the money we were bankrupt, if he could buy if we won areas of industries that made money every day we won, basically as the business system of the San Andreas and Vice City but with new upgrades, and could always be exist stand of cars and motorcycles and other vehicles possible prices of luxury cars and these cars are rare to find the supposed city Rockstar has to think of ways to spend money before and after the end of the campaign

the reason why they have rags to riches is because the money motivates people. If you have money whats the motivation to commit crimes.

I think that sounds about right for the necessary circumstances under which the protagonist would resort to heinous acts of hooker-beatdowns. I don't think GTA would survive if the upcoming game featured a stock broker crunching numbers and making calls in his office all day. there would need to be some greater conflict involved that sucks the protagonist in.

With the whole left or loss of his money motif, it may begin to brush too closely with Vice City's theme of the botched drug deal and having to recover the money for the mob. Obviously the elements would be different for a business man, but if the story takes place in Vice City, as some propose, the likeness to the older game would be uncanny.

If, in the end, the character does end up with loads of money, i'd want to have a good way to spend it. since Vice City, the amount of money the player gains is quite high in comparison to the player's ability to spend it. Of course you could hit the gun shop and spend your millions there, but there simply isn't enough variety in the player's purchasing power. I'm not saying the player needs to be able to buy every little bit and bob that he would in real life, but SOMETHING to spend on would be nice.

Maybe make money harder to come by? if the player does happen to accumulate millions of dollars over the course of the game, it should be through labor intensive car jacking, hooker beating, shootout starting, and all of the good trouble one can get into in the game. The whole casino business from San Andreas really made money irrelevant when one could just put $10 million on black and never have to worry about money again (once i had $50 million, i gave up on gambling).

If, as most people would agree, the acquisition of wealth is a driving factor in GTA games, especially considering the rags=>riches storyline, then there needs to be a better use for money than to simply sit at the top right of the screen and gather digital dust.

Some good points made, specifically about what would be the motivation to do the gritty missions when you already have millions. Well I guess they could do it so that when you do 95% of the missions you are still relatively poor, then in the last few missions is when you really accumulate your wealth and power.

Then after the main storyline, a whole host of new property/vehicles/boats/jets etc become available to buy, as well as new side missions whereby you can make more vast amounts of money. So only when the story is complete do you really start gain access to the wealth and riches. Maybe you take over a drug cartel or something, and gain access to some huge estate.

Well just imagine playing as Yusuf Amir? That would be pretty fun right? As long as there were enough things to spend obscene amounts of money on I'd be happy with that. Oh & as long as you don't pay other people to do everything for you too! tounge.gif

Good point, but Fun is also a factor. However I feel you are talking about real life.
