Grand Theft Auto V Announced

Back when GTA IV was being shown to press, Rockstar representatives would stress the importance of the number in the title. As successful as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas were, they noted, it was the game that preceded them, GTA III that was a paradigm shift. They hoped and believed that GTA IV, by being a numbered game would have and merit some outsized influence of its own. If that is still the company's philosophy, then after Grand Theft Auto IV's un-numbered episodes, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, a numbered GTA V should again merit special attention. Shifting cities was not sufficient cause for a new numbered GTA before. A change to the series' formula, however, one that gives players more than one controllable character, would.

What the hell are they talking about they're making it seem like TBGT and TLAD were standlaone games they were just expansion packs. Its not like they would've been named GTA 5 and 6. Those stories were still set within the same city. No need to be named 5 and 6. The expan packs were just R* taking advantage of the market and profit maximising.

Anyway Vice City and San Andreas were standalone games in their own right not expansion packs, they were shifts to new cities hence a unique title. The idea of downloadable content was non-existent back then. And I highly doubt GTA IV to V is a paradigm shift like III to IV. The leap to GTAIII was the implementation of 3D graphics and to IV was the realism/better technology I think another paradigm shift would be on the next generation consoles.

My point is this: a pardigm shift I thought was the advancment in technology not the roman numeral they put after the title.

After this out-of-the-blue announcement, I find it hard to believe that Rockstar are following any remotely predictable pattern at all. They will do whatever they want, and if they have to go back on some stuff they said about IV and the importance of it being a numbered title, they will.

Wii U, anyone? It's going to be released some time next year, and Nintendo would love to have something like GTA V on it to try and appeal to harcore gamers again.

Nintendo won't want GTAV, Nintendo do not cater to the hardcore market. They have a more family orientated and casual rep to keep up.

I wouldn't say that. The list of announced Wii U games includes more "grown up" games like Battlefield, Metro, Ghost Recon and Darksiders 2.

They are more grown up, but look at the age rating GTA normally gets. You won't really find that on a Nintendo console.

<snip>Madworld</snip>

That's an ESRB rating, they don't seem to hold much ground. GTA gets an classification board rating, in the UK that is generally 18, Nintendo will not want that classification on their games.

Madworld was rated 18 by the BBFC. Try watching some Youtube videos of it, it's violence for the sake of violence.

I think the URL is Rockstargames/v, not entirely sure, but my browser remembered it, I tried it and it reverts to Rockstargames in the process. It's a splash page/landing page, so as to get everyone's attention. The odds are it won't be like that for more then a month I'd guesstimate

It more than likely will be /V I agree. None of their URLs for other games work at the moment though because the attention is on the announcement. We might not see the full website until the trailer is out is my best guess.

When did we get the GTA IV teaser? Anybody remember?

29th March 2007 according to Wikipedia, which was eight months before its initial scheduled release date, but due to problems establishing it on both the XBox 360 and the PS3 GTA IV was pushed back six months to April 2008.

So, if it's the same case now, we can expect to have GTA V around June. Or if it's delayed, around next christmas.

If you look at the expansions as a trilogy like III, VC, and SA then it makes sense. It doesn't mean it exclusively represents a jump in hardware or technology, it means that they're starting a new chapter. They got all they wanted out of Liberty City

Well they clearly didnt get all they wanted otherwise they wouldnt have come back to it, III was set there remember. Pretty sure the paradigm shift to IV was all about creating a living breathing Liberty City on new hardware because it was impossible to do back in 2001.

I seriously doubt fingerless black gloves are going to be in GTA V, the reason peeps went nuts is because NIKO predominantly featured on the box art wearing them. If Niko IS in the game, Michael Hollick hasn't said anything?!?!? hahaha

Present, not past BTW)))

Out of the blue? Bloody brilliant marketing more like! This week mark's the tenth anniversary since the release of GTA III and by piquing interest in GTA V they'll no doubt be generating more traffic for the rest of the series. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if a 10th Anniversary Edition of GTA III was released next week to not only coincide with the date, but also the hype this announcement/trailer has generated.

Same question i'm asking as well, why would you want an iconic game being on the Wii or the Wii U, I mean come on that is the most pointless move ever and if it did it will be choked by kids and families which is not GTA's audience at all.

I was just asking for opinions. Like Slamman said, Chinatown Wars was on DS...

Yes to spread the GTA series to nintendo but the graphics compared to the PSP shows that it wasn't very good. The only good thing was the storyline and that was it and who wants to use a pen just to hotwire a car.

Paradigm shift would be a true "next Generation", both GTA IV and the 360 and PS3 would qualify.

Consider that STORIES is a series intended for portable hardware, so that's how to think of those

For Episodes, those were meant as DLC expansion, yes. In grande Rockstar tradition, the intent is that it makes the original GTA 4 last and play longer, and it was their attempt to reinvent DLC as it's known AKA Downloadable Content. Being one of the best games in the World, this meant a package those without Broadband service could also obtain

btw, green is also the color of weed. Lots of hood gangs smoke weed. Sanandreas or los santos?

Green is also the color of grass. Cows eat grass. Cows can be found in the Alps. Therefore, I am 100% sure this GTA will be in and around Basel, Switzerland.

Hey, at least it's more credible than 4chan.

You make steak from cows. Just saying.
